  • Took me roughly 3 seconds to read the two sentences and English isn't my native language o.O

  • U madden bro? :P

  • i recommend the number find exercise ! :D

  • I did'nt care much for the speed reading. The guy is hot.

  • You look realy smart im gonna lisen to you:D

  • Who reads for fun these days? Not me. The only thing I like to read is the captions on the hot playboy bunny spread

  • 500 to 1000 words is possible but this will take a lot more work.

  • erwinthehamsandwich 6 months ago 34 > ZaneArcher 9 months ago 63

    Rating/Months=Ratio: 34/6=5.67 < 63/9=7

Why didn't this matter to me until after I realized I had more than 1 thumbs up?

  • He got that sweater from Mr. Rogers.

  • i could be reading right now...

    p.s. helpful video :D

  • 125 to 250, that is crazy slow. That cant be average for a grown up.

  • @Terje1337 Average for kids is typically in range of 100-200 and adults 200-250.

  • is this stuff just for normal reading? i mean a dog and a cat is a scenario everybody is familiar with but as a doctor we have to read stuff about genes and surgeries how the hell do we picturize that as a whole scene. or mechanisms and processes.....i read really slow but i remember stuff once i'm done reading.

  • I was assigned to read the catcher and the rye today, and what's funny is im watching this video!

  • Lol, love your sweater. ^_^

  • Ok, so why don't you demonstrate...?

  • for a fast reader, you speak too slow!!!

  • @omri9325 lol, speaking and reading doewnt have a lot to do with eachother :p

  • @Terje1337 i saw this video, cause i wanted to save some time while i read.

but while i saw this video i've noticed he speaks very slowly, and wasting my time.

  • @omri9325 better than to fast, right?

  • the number finding-method is the best way, i have tried it, and it works succesfully

  • I think it has to do with the way you learn to read. Most of the time they teach your to read by pronouncing word there by making an association between sounds"words" and image. If you decrease the sound that you made you would go faster to the visual part of the brain.

  • So basically what you did was replace the word sound with smaller sounds.

    Example: The Cat die yesterday.

If you read this normally you would try to pronounce the words one by one out loud or in your head. But if you replace the sound of "the" or "yesterday" with smaller sounding words or tones there fore it will go by faster to your visual center rather then sound. Interesting.

  • What a cool dude. If you go on his website you can even read a great e-book he wrote on this subject for free. Thanks Kris, you're the man.

  • thats a pretty bad drawing of a fish

  • holy crap, i watched this because i wanted to read the catcher in the rye faster!

  • hahaha not how it works at all

  • @TheColeZole

    How does it work......genius?

  • I find you very attractive.

  • @ozit I quite agree

  • Thank you!

  • Ireadfaster . com

  • how much practice does it take to get good at this

  • @planbskater565 With 2-3 hours of practice every day I think you will get pretty good at it in about 5-6 weeks.

Speed reading requires a lot of practice (of course) but it's worth it.

  • @LOLLYPOPPE yeah! so that I CAN BE A RAPPER ;D

  • i feel retarded with the a e i o u thing!!

    i probably am :/

  • i just naturally speedread, skipping the unimportant words and visualizing the whole scene at once instead of word by word

  • Speed reading is the best skill they never teach you in school.

  • I think the vowel thing is unnecessary... I'd recommend everyone take up Evelyn Wood's book. The key idea is to NOT subvocalise the words.... you simply have to trust yourself that when you read solely with your vision, that you are getting the message. Too many people feel like they don't "understand" unless they read at slower levels when you vocalise. Also, there is a difference between "drills" where you are pushing yourself, and when you are actually immersed in whatever you're reading

  • @hagadaba Your right about not trying to subvocalise the words but is difficult to break an association.

  • I <3 StumbleUpon SU.

  • For speed reading I use app on my android phone Bookreader

but you may also try speed reader.

It helps a lot. With this app I can read with 500 words per min.

  • this shit doesnt work....

  • @ipeze

    Word shit Knaw' mean

Yo Reading iz Good shit Homie knah' mean? Word nah' mean, You kno That reading shit nah' mean, Its Hard son, yo Word nah' mean, Especially When them Bookz Be nah' mean, Real thick an Shit, nah' mean, Word Nigga nah' mean? Wit Dem curvey letters u feel me,Nah'mean, damn son this is whack shit Nah'mean

  • @ipeze You probably tried to do it like right after this video. you have to practice.

  • Fucking awesome, really cool thanks!

  • nice tip it helped me speed up just a little :D

  • Interesting advice on speed reading. Gonna have to try it out.

  • Ive always done this. Didnt know other people did anything else.

  • far out man, i can't DO IT :(

    a e [reads a word] i [reads another word] u

    D:

  • I'm not sure who came up with this idea, but he/she has given us such a ridiculous improvement. I think a kudos is in order.

  • although you won't get any comprehension, you can read faster lol

  • @boid3 He said that you won't get much comprehension AT FIRST. But with practice and time you can gain the same level of reading comprehension you had before.

  • if you want to speed read, just use NZT drug...

  • i can't... :(

  • omg it works

  • I thought that nobody but kids reads word-by-word. Regardless of whether this exercise works or not, just reading a lot will ultimately bring you to the same or an even faster level, so <250 WPM is more likely an outcome of this century's illiteracy plague rather than reading the "wrong" way. (or a result of the stupid habit of making kids read everything aloud at schools)

  • Good vid; but do you like.. FishSticks?

  • gay fish?

  • stumbled upon things to learn from youtube.

  • Just clear your mind. Use your eyes. Basically as fast as your eyes can look at something your brain can process it.

  • But this IS how I read...

  • My Reading Level is 1.

  • 70 people chased after the cat.

  • The dog chased after the cat and aslkdgmasklmvaklsmdfa vmzxcvm amsdf

    wtf

  • Just found out I can speed read!!! What slows me down? I am so lazy and just like movies and TV better then books.

  • Try to read my Medical book let see how you can go and understand.

  • I-E-A-I-A-I-O - SYSTEM OF A DOWN

  • how long are you suppose to do the exercise for at 1:35 ?

  • thats just what i do in real life.,, still i get an F..cz thats how i read books actually

  • I THINK I JUST LEVELED UP!! FUCK YEAH WITHOUT CHEATS!!

  • @Toineuchiha Youtube is a cheat

  • The dog chased after the cat. They ran around town all day long and never stopped chasing the dinosaur. Yeah, my comprehension needs work.

  • Well, that works when there's no dialogue, but you can't speed up what others are saying.

  • @aquazuba89 its speed reading.. not speed hearing! ^^ ffs

  • If I use this technique then I DO get done with the book, only I don't remember any of it.

  • You would be able to read it really fast, but you wouldn't be able to remember any of it.

  • Does speed reading work with harder texts in subjects such as chemistry, ect in terms of comprehension?

  • @darkseclusion it all depends on how familiar you are with the subject and your vocabulary. If you don't know a lot of the words or if you are bad an a certain subject then you won't be able to speed read as quickly and comprehend.

  • Rivers Cuomo!

  • @jabel94 AEIOU I look just like Buddy Holly.

  • @erwinthehamsandwich and you're mary tyler moore

  • thanks for showing us the tips..very good

  • you may be fast at reading the words, but you miss some of the context of things. I can read fast but in the end Ive always slowed it down to visualise a scene in my head and actually enjoy the book. And if its a technical document for work you better be sure your getting it right.

  • i think instead of ey iii a yuu we could just say eeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee while reading

  • The library will love this!

  • how does vocabulary come in to a factor? what if you're reading a book and there are some words you never met before?

  • Can I say poop poop poop poop instead of aeiou

  • Hi, does anyone know of a speed reading tool which works like the Quick Reader app for google chrome?

  • i can already speed read. I timed myself reading those sentences and it took me 3.3 seconds :P

  • this method makes reading Romance book's more pleasurable.

  • I have noticed increased reading speed for Shakespeare's play 'Othello' because of acting out and creating a video for my english class. Looking back at the pages that I have acted, I can notice that I read much faster through it than when I first had. Reading doesnt nessassarily mean injesting words, but more ideas and intentions behind the words.

  • Excellent video! =)Ive been reading up on this topic, but a lot of the info I've found seems like svada. This actually makes sense, in my mind at least:P

    Thanks!

  • My brain hurts.

  • Im dyslexic

  • no, thank YOU

  • a e i o u doesn't work because the brain is switching between tasks quickly all the time..

  • @TheWanderingSaint Then use easier phrases, a simple "aaaaaaaaaaaa" could be enough - the goal of this is, that you stop trying produce the sound of what you read in your throat.

The whole trick he "discovered" is, that you are faster when you do not *vocalize* the words you read, but that people usually dont remember things then, so that you have to practice it first: non-vocalizing reading BUT ACTIVE.

Some people do this automaticcaly. I'm not._.ButIdont know how effecitve aeiou is for me...

  • wow definitely works

  • i simply read this like i normally have my whole life and it took me 2.4 seconds (timed with stopwatch) i have a feeling that i dont really need to learn how to speed read im already above normal if thats supposed to take 10 seconds

  • young steve martin !

  • and sometimes Y

  • weird and useless method. why strugle with the aeiou when you can just take a freaking pen, the freaking book, and point to each word while reading fast and concentrating? god people these days even need retarded methods to speed read? well it had to be invented since there are retards out there who read 1 page per 10 minutes.

  • @PinkSkiiTtLeZzYoanNa dont be arrogant and use that word, hun

  • @guineapiggyman which word?

  • @Gabesly what word do you think? - retard. its offensive

  • @guineapiggyman i believe they put "retarded"

  • @Gabesly he used retarded and retard. cant you read?

  • @guineapiggyman no, he put "retarded" and "retard" and no i can't read, i can just write and im watching a video on reading

  • @Gabesly uhhh, thats what i JUST wrote. holy crap.....

  • @guineapiggyman actually you wrote it 13 hours previous to my comment so you didnt "JUST" write it

  • @Gabesly just- as in, the most recent, prior to you. learn grammar. theres a whole bunch of types of words. verbs, pronouns, interjections

  • @guineapiggyman yes but your comment wasnt the most recent

  • @Gabesly uhh, yes it was. no one else is involved in this interaction

  • @guineapiggyman yes, PinkSkiiTtLeZzYoanNa is

  • @Gabesly well, since he never RESPONDED to my post, then its not considered and INTERACTION. doyou... do you get how this works?

  • @guineapiggyman i believe it is a she not a he and do you have a stutter? you said doyou... do you

  • @Gabesly yep. cuz its possible to have a typing stutter. wow youre ignorant.

  • @guineapiggyman maybe you have voice recignition software that when you say something, it types for you.

  • @Gabesly then you have a serious flaw in your understanding of how voice software works. it has an auto grammar checker, so even if you stutter, it wont type it. are you 12?

  • @guineapiggyman nope, 13 (ALMOST 14 :D) and thats only the dumb kinds, the good kinds will pick up the stutter

  • 125!?

When I was 13 i red 329 words per minute.

Now i read 829 minutes in one minute, thanks to a very, very smart professor.

  • @ProudMuslim567 Oh, so thanks to this very very smart professor you read minutes instead of words? Cool!

  • @Padam91 Oh i am sorry,i wrote a bit fast,and wrote "minutes" instead of "words". Sorry... :D

  • @ProudMuslim567 One pound of which weighs over one thousand pounds!

  • AEIOU,AEIOUAEIOUAEIOU,AEIOUAEIOU.AEIOU,AEIOUAEIOUAEIOU,AEIOUAEIOU.AEIOU,AEIOUAEIOUAEIOU,AEIOUAEIOU.AEIOU,AEIOUAEIOUAEIOU,AEIOUAEIOU.

  • I never knew that I actually read with my neck. He's right though, the book reading is much faster now. I am really getting tired of reading books that only have the words AEIOU in them though...seems like all of the stories have the same ending.

  • hmm my voice gets tired after a while... ill whisper it or something but it seems to work so thanks ;)

  • hm, i speed-"hear"my wife all the time by saying blablablablah, blablablablah and repeat, but i never really get a word of what she's saying ... i wonder if this method is similar..

  • We have to give our minds more credit! If we can read slowly with practice and understand something, then we can read quickly and understand it just the same. The mind is a powerful tool!

  • haha interesting method xD i will revive my reading hobby back with this practice bcoz i m slow reader 2 begin with haha

  • so I have to babble like an idiot out loud anytime I want to read fast?

  • Cool sweater bro.

  • I am about to read right now and I am going to try that ( I usually don't like reading because I read slow) thanx

  • i said aeio-ever

  • the meaning is to understand what you're reading not just the reading

  • excellent thanks

  • One important thing Kris forgot to mention: to start speed reading, you need to learn in chunks of words. basically, more than one word at a time. you can do this by looking between words rather than at the word. right now, i can read 3-5 words with one glance. I don't have to look at each letter, because that's how the brain works. it isn't an ability ppl are born with, it's a valuable skill to learn. I use to read at 150wpm, now i can read 300-600wpm, and almost 1000.

  • I just learned this #LOL / #FTW / #OMG / #FAIL

  • Speed reading doesn't work. It might work with young readers or books for little kids, but try reading a fucking philosophy book. I tried speed reading and this shit doesn't fucking work. No matter what i do, i still read slowly.

  • A philosophy book is something you have to meditate on. This tutorial is just show you how to get past general information, like in a novel.

  • @luxfero It's a skill that takes practice. I'm speedreading biochemistry and microbiology books, so it ought to work. The thing with these kinds of books is that very often you'll find a word that you don't know, causing you to slow down. But that's not a bad thing! Speed reading is not necessarily reading at top speed all the time. It's more about eliminating subvocalisation, regression and developing a dynamic reading rate. With practice you'll eventually be able to keep going quite fast.

  • @Demoras

um i tried speed reading your comment, but i didnt get anything ;/

  • E YA O U AND I DON'T REMEMBER ANYTHING I'VE READ.

  • @ApathetSyndrome hahahaha :D:D

  • @ApathetSyndrome lol i was thinking that "how am i going to pay attention to the words"

  • @ApathetSyndrome ax0xaxa0

  • @ApathetSyndrome HE ADDRESSED THAT. YOU REPEAT THE EXERCISE OVER TIME AND YOUR BRAIN WILL GET OVER ITSELF AND LEARN TO READ WITHOUT SPEAKING THE WORDS SUBCONSCIOUSLY.

I learned to do this on my own - before I even knew that speed-reading was different than normal reading, I could read at 800 wpm at a stretch, and read comfortably at 500.

  • imagine if someone did 1001 words... that would be hilarious!!

  • @jtborg I can about read at that speed :p

  • this is gold!

  • This video made me speed read comments.

  • @ZaneArcher It looks like you've suceeded then.

  • @izzmagical Indeed, I've learnt if you try it out on the bible for too long your head will hurt.

  • Can I sing a song and read? Will it work the same? Or do I have to say something short like AEIOU? btw I think this is soooo amazing and can't wait to get started!!! :DD

  • this video is hilarious. i think i saw this on tosh.o im not sure

  • thanks main...watched this...back to the piles

  • ew... fish.

  • Ha... I can read over 1000 words on average. Which is tantamount to me being that much more intelligent than you.

  • @ZerstorenAH it is also the antithesis of ignorance and retarted levels of speed for reading

  • hahaha, lol i read it like he did at 2:38

  • what

  • steve madden!

  • What else you can do is before opening a book, flip through it like a magazine really fast 4 times forwards and 4 times backwards. What it does is it absorbs you and makes it less stressful to read when knowing how much there is. Than read upside down. I guarantee it works.

  • @TheBlackEagle20 u cant read

  • I now and then can’t read well. So what I do is, I flip my book inverted and read it that way, it really helps to read upside down. Or what I do for each word I read than tap my finger on the desk according to how many letters there are I’m reading. For instance (Fish) you tap while you’re saying fish 4 times on the desk, it has to be done at the same time. What you’re doing is tapping in the subconscious and in the conscious conjointly. That’s the key.

  • nice video Kris. I teach it a very different way though. keep up the work

  • I often read aloud to my kids... would this hinder my process if I start your process towards speed reeding??

  • @butrosbg I dont think so. cus then you're still projecting the word to ur larynx but voicing it out loud - and automatically goes to ur mind.

  • would anything like a blacklight or a magnifying glass help?

  • also while your reading using a guide like your finger increases your read rate (only a tiny bit.)

  • lol the high pitch humming works best for practicing in the class room ^.^

  • Big picture in, and details out?

  • I read it in like a second and a half. :/ Not 1 second.
