And at the end ... what is the win of anyone of you, that the R26 is 9 secs faster on the Nurburgring? Lightweight pays up always in racing. But for everyday drive the RS is for sure more interesting ... the Renault as 2nd car for weekends and trackdays, sure. But not for everyday use ... If you cannot understand, try to have a roll-cage car with 5-points seatbelts and plastic windows as everyday car ... then you will get my point :)

I have to drive every day and I love ac and being able to listen to the radio/cd and the SatNav really helps finding places. Sure the Renault may be faster but I'd rather spend my hard earned money on the Ford any day; the extra comfort when I have to drive in and out of the city every week day and on the weekends in the country when I can open it up.

The Megane looks horrible. Not only the shapes of it's rear, but the red rims and the stickers. It tries too hard to be a race car. I'd pick the Ford any day. I sat in one a while back at my local Ford shop, and it was suprisingly comfortable. And it looks so god damn sexy! Especially in that bright green pearlescent finish.

imo, if a car can gain that much ground in a short amount of time, with pretty much 25% less power! its got to be respsected as a good piece of engineering.

That is a track prepped Magane in the test. A regular Magane is not going to have Plexiglas windows and a roll bar with 5 point racing harness and not back seat. If you took the Ford and put Plexiglas windows and took out the passenger and rear seat it would have beat the Magane's time. The tires are a huge difference on any car and a street tire is now match for a DOT racing tire. The Magane is cool but that is not your off the showroom floor model.

its just as much a showroom car as the Focus RS. 70Bhp less and its made 1second on a 90second course. It has to be said that it is impressive. I do love the focus RS, but the meganne has to be respected as a good piece of engineering.

in power-to-weight terms, the focus still has the edge on paper! so its not just the fact that its stripped out thats giving it the edge! Its the design of the chassis aswell!

You can check the actual footage and see that the RS won. Anywhere from 1:55 to 1:56, you can pause and see that the RS is ahead. It hits the line first, and goes over first.
the ford is only 2.000 more and you get a better looking car,stereo,voice navagation,its more comfortable, back seats, a trunk, pasanger airbags, 300HP, 163 MPH for only 2.000 dollars more. Thats a better and more complete package than the Renault. The Renault (which i have been in) is good but when it comes to the overall package its NOTHING but speed and offers you nothing more. Its incredibly uncomfortable. The ford finished only a second slower while offering so much more than speed.
i hate the renault, it has to be stripped down and the windows have to be replaced with plastic just to make it a little faster than a standard megane. ford focus is better, new shape, more fun to drive, has a radio and other accessories as standard and a simple seat belt. A hot hatch is a hatch that does everything and the ford does, not the megane. The magane is for a track. Your arse would be pumping blood after driving to the shop. Also you can't pick the kids up from school because there are no back seats, you can't drive in the rain because they are slick tires and if it is going to be raining you won't know because there is no radio to tell you.

The entire point of a hot hatch is that you have a car which is practical enough to go shopping, take home some furnature from Ikea or take your kids to school etc, AND be fast and fun. The Focus RS is perfect for this. The Megane R26R isnt perfect for this. It has no back seats, and no comforts. It can't take carry any loads or any people and is uncomfortable on the UK's roads. So if you want a sports car, why buy the Megane at all? Why not just buy a 2nd hand Elise or Caterham 7?
@Timo3531 Both these cars are very good in my opinion. There's pluses and minuses for both of them. I'd have the Ford though - it's more practical, but it is quite chavvy.

@666FARRAH Red Bull has a Renault Engine. Audi won Le mans (while 908 were fastest but had reliability problems), BUT Peugeot 908 has beaten AUDI R15 in ALL other ALMS race last year, and won the championship easily.
Ford Focus was RS on Nürburgring (with same semi slicks as R26R) and was still 9 secs behind (not to notice that the R26R was only allowed with 1 round alone on the track, while the Focus several with a driver who knows track perfectly Hans Von Sauma). Megane RS3 was even faster.
@remfighter French car in the motorsport are not bad. But this has nothing to do about the french cars in everyday life ;)
Citroen is not better than Ford in WRC ... but definitely has a way better driver in the face of Seb Loeb, and now with Seb Ogier it is x2 ... Even Gronholm was not a focused driver .. he either won or was DNF ... Seb on the other side either won, or was 2nd., 3rd .
Ford has 10 Champs, Renault 9 in F1(Engines). The Megane is ok for 2nd car, the RS you can use every day

A hot hatch is a hatch that does everything and the ford does, not the megane. The magane is for a track. Your arse would be pumping blood after driving to the shop. Also you can't pick the kids up from school because there are no back seats, you can't drive in the rain because they are slick tires and if it is going to be raining you won't know because there is no radio to tell you.
The ford is a best hot hatch ever made.

@scoot24925 To me the perfect hatchback is first of all practical, the whole point is to have a small car that still has space for lots of stuff. If it is fun, well thats a big plus but not thier primary purpose. The Focus is a car that does BOTH. I'd take a Focus over a Megane any day.

Just having more power doesnt mean its better, its so heavy like the Peugeot 407 it is so heavy that it will accttually stop in a steep hill, so the megane is better! The entire point of a hot hatch is that you have a car which is practical enough to go shopping, take home some furnature from Ikea or take your kids to school etc, AND be fast and fun. The Focus RS is perfect for this. The Megane R26R isnt perfect for this. It has no back seats, and no comforts. It can't take carry any loads or any people and is uncomfortable on the UK's roads. So if you want a sports car, why buy the Megane at all? Why not just buy a 2nd hand Elise or Caterham 7?

@666FARRAH Red Bull has a Renault Engine. Audi won Le mans (while 908 were fastest but had reliability problems), BUT Peugeot 908 has beaten AUDI R15 in ALL other ALMS race last year, and won the championship easily.
Ford Focus was RS on Nürburgring (with same semi slicks as R26R) and was still 9 secs behind (not to notice that the R26R was only allowed with 1 round alone on the track, while the Focus several with a driver who knows track perfectly Hans Von Sauma). Megane RS3 was even faster.

Citroen is not better than Ford in WRC ... but definitely has a way better driver in the face of Seb Loeb, and now with Seb Ogier it is x2 ... Even Gronholm was not a focused driver .. he either won or was DNF ... Seb on the other side either won, or was 2nd., 3rd .
Ford has 10 Champs, Renault 9 in F1(Engines). The Megane is ok for 2nd car, the RS you can use every day

He is the 2nd driver with the most victory behind Loeb. Even Solberg said that he definitely take the Citroen over the Ford if he wants to have a chance to win.
When did Ford start F1, and when did Renault? How many F1 seasons do have each of them? What are the result if we count the last 20, or last 10 years? Oh... Wait! Renault owns Ford.

Ford is not pushing their appearance in F1, Renault is. That is the difference for the last years. In fact, only Ferrari has more champs than Ford, 16. Ford has 10 as engine supplier, Renault 9. Until the stats say different, I am right.

i will take the comfort of my rs any day, being a mechanic and garage owner i know which one i will have endless problems with and its not the ford.the electrics on the renault suffer badly, dashboard probs, regulators on electric windows and so on, that said power to weight ratio, the little renault is a pocket rocket ,think the cage,full harnesses and lack of stereo would piss you off after a while?
