I'm convinced that recording devices do not pick up Calleja's voice well at all. Having heard him live in house (The Met) I can say that his high notes and voice in general has much more bloom than the various recordings show. Pity.
@DragTas Absolutely true. I have heard him in house as well and the voice he projects has an enveloping, brilliant sound with incredible bloom and color. Nothing convinces me more that voices of certain qualities need more careful recording in order to capture more of the whole spectrum of sound. The fact that he has somewhat softened the metalic quality of the vibrato of earlier years probably will be a bonus in recording. An incredible tenor to hear live if at all possible, for sure.
This wonderful tenor just continues to improve, his voice gaining richness and colour - why oh why are Decca not making more use of this stunning young artist - there is so little of him available on CD - can only be glad that "you tubers" take the trouble to upload. In UK his wonderful current interpretation of Adorno in Simon Boccanegra with Domingo will, thank heavens, be broadcast on UK TV next week. I saw it last night and Joseph was stunning of course - More Calleja please :-)
@hugothebear - I too was in the audience last night, just terrific!. Quite agree with regards to having more recorded, BUT please remember that Calleja is still only 32 and developing his career very carefull and might not wish "just" to release yet another stand rep CD filled with "old" familiar arias. With Simon B being shown on BBC television and La Traviata on DVD, we can eagerly await his La Boheme and Lucia di Lammermoor from the MET too. Hoping he chooses to release a CD too, soon.
Tenorfach-I've been hungry for newer Calleja videos so I really appreciate your entry. As a non-techie, I have no idea what's involved with reformatting a video. I'll live with the one minute of silence. I can never get enough Calleja.
Thank you for this marvelous video. I keep playing Calleja's videos and I appreciate the new entries. He's my tenor of the times. Can you excise the silent last minute?
But what's with Jaho's vibrato??? Awful!

@marlyharris Sorry, but to take off that bit of silence, I would have to take the video down altogether, cut it and re-upload.
