I saw her live at Ronnie Scott's in London in the mid 1980s--yes, she had a "just right" feel for small jazz clubs. I see that in this video--but, I see the trio in this number doing the heavy lifting --ear opening piano by Georges Arvantias--thank you CalmOSullivanRed for the tag--I'll check out more. Thanks emmadetten for the up.
wow, emma!where did you get this video?this entire anita concert should be put out on video to really do it justice and for all her fans to have as their own.
@MrZekervan She was a heavily addicted heroin addict, who claims she kicked the habit by lying on the beach in Hawaii; because during period of "shakes" she felt warm in the sun/sand, and during times of "perspiring" she could dunk herself in the ocean to cool off; sun also damaged her skin since she was fair skinned and freckled.
Always so fashionable and chic, beautifully coiffed, always at home on stage. A true jazz singer; that was and is a rare breed. As an individual she was totally undisciplined and couldn't handle daily life. On stage she glowed. A brilliant and inventive artist who knew her own mind.
@paTsOday The album is called "Anita O'Day In Berlin" (MPS 2120750-1) My LP is on the Viking / BASF label, but I believe it is now many years out of print.
Wow! Thanks so much for this.I really would put in the box/tags, though, that this is the GREAT French pianist Georges Arvanitas and his longsatnding trio (Jacky Sampson, b Charles Saudrais, d) that backed so many Americans through the years.I can imagine people who search Arvanitas would be so pleased to see this!
In fact, may I please ask you to seriously consider uploading every piece from this historic concert ? Hope you don't mind me asking (and I do notice you have a marvellous "channel").
@ColmOSullivanRed truly a great song by a great, legendary jazz singer. I wish she could have had more peace in her life, and I wish she was still with us.
