One of my favourites of all - like this video better than a lot of the professionally filmed ones. Nice to be able to hear alex's 'Yo' at the end of the strangled guitar section........
Song recorded almost 35 years ago and it's still fresh and sounds good. My 7 month nephew like whole Hemispheres album, but only when it's played from vinyl. CD or mp3 is out of his attention. Rush raising 3rd generation of my family :)
To the 4 Dislikes, You have no idea how a 3 man band sounds like a 6 man band, I saw RUSH in Oakland, CA. back in the day 1983. This is haunting and EPIC!
EXCELLENT VIDEO BROTHER.....GREAT FUCKING CHOICE OF TUNES TO POST...WISH I COULD'VE BEEN THERE WITH YA....they play effortlessly....and look how much they enjoy playing....damn....its a crime they aren't in the Rock-n-Roll H.O.F. This Music is my youth....
@rushman1316 as opposed to a lot of 70's acts taking their show around playing for beer 'n bbq RUSH still do Madison Square Gardens and the O2 in London!
Took me 6 months of intense playback to learn and play this song n guitar....and now its all for nothing. now I have to start from scratch again and add that polka thing....Back to the drawing board...see ya all in 6 months"sigh"

I always liked the way Alex makes his guitar "talk". And when it is talking you can see in his facial expressions what he want it to say. Totally unique.
I can't believe I saw them do this 31 years ago and then just recently! This is their job, their career! They deserve a ton of credit for all their hard workand making popular a lot of non-commercial music that no disc jockey would ever play on the radio.
Yep, what Zuk2112 said. It's a "swell" effect that can also be achieved by rolling down the volume knob before hitting the note, then rolling it back up after... or with the use of a volume pedal, but it's easier to just have an effects processor do it for you. I have a "swell" function on one of my delays, and it's fun as heck to use it to play La Villa, and the beginning parts to Xanadu.
Nice frickin video! I was in the 3rd row center in Louisville and that experience changed my life. Rush is a band that receives very little credit. But the fans know how great this band is. And that's all that matters. Not the critics. I love Rush and will always love them. An I'm only 18. I own every album (regular and live) and hope to be in the bands presence again in the future. Rush has literally change my life and me as a person. I thank them.
@mooninites3 I called it that as well. Very funny. Great minds think alike!!!
And those seats WERE great, except that the Fair had lashed a whole bunch of fairly weak chairs together, and very quickly, people started ignoring the rows and it got crowded fast. We were about 5 rows behind where this was filmed, and even in the crush of the audience, it was TOTALLY worth it! A SUPER show that I keep reliving and listening to over and over...
It's amazing how everyone is commenting on the amazing playing...but fail to notice (or chooses to ignore) that these guys are rounding 60 and still put bands 30 years younger to shame.
Beethoven was a genius and has really never been surpassed in sheer musical genius. In the realm of rock history, I think Rush will hold an enviable position in the future. The fact that the guys are publicly relaxed and jovial makes their extreme talents more unusual.
to be able to really understand the genius of this band (rush), along with geddy, alex and neil´s, individual playing as well, is truly a blessing, this band is absolutely brilliant, epic..these guy´s are legend´s, monster´s of rock..hands down!
@itsguitarmanrourke I've been going to gigs for at least 30 years and i can count on one hand when i have been close enough to the stage to see the faces of the band in big arenas. It all comes down various amounts of luck, post code, a fat wallet and possibly knowing the right ticket touts to be in the front section.
I've often wondered how the touts manage to get hold of prime tickets before anyone else can.
i got a great vid or two from this show too, i was to your left a bit i think, front row as well. sounds like you have a panasonic ZS5 or ZS7?? i am so mad i bought a canon by 'accident' cuz i didn't know the panasonic had such great microphones. my canon does have a vivid color setting i use for RUSH though, so the video is often extraordinary & audio can always be swapped some day :) i get a lot of comments about my camera work as well but i think i've met my match!!!!
I know its gonna piss a load of fans off but Rush has turned into a bunch of couldnt care less about the fans just gimme the money self serving hacks.
I am a huge fan of Rush and have been since i first saw them play nearly 30 years ago when they were exciting and involved the audience. To me this isnt Rush its far too clinical and corporate. Where is the warmth and love for the fans who paid through the nose to see them?
@RumbleGuts2112 -don't know what fans you're talking about but the crew i'm part of who go to their shows all the time around the country get plenty of warmth from them, as well as the 'one timers' per show in between us, not the least of which is their policy allowing not only photos but video AND even at times posing or acting out for our cameras! the additional income RUSH is now making isn't going to change their lifestyle very much at all, and the fact that they *STILL TOUR* is quite WARM!
@ACELLOFAWARENESS I have no problem with Rush fans cos they are the best and most down to earth fans i know. In this techno world we live in Rush just like any other band have no choice but to accept they are going to be filmed by the fans and cant control it like the old days. For great band/fan interaction look at AC/DC and Iron Maiden etc. Those guys are also rich beyong belief but they also involve everyone from the back of the concert hall not just the first 7 rows.
@RumbleGuts2112 - peace to you as well bro, anyone with 2112 in their name gotta be cool!! every now and then the arena security take their jobs too seriously and shut down video, this happened in baltimore cuz the staff is mostly off duty cops. mohegan sun sucks too, a bunch of "roadhouse" beater-offers (as Ron White puts it lol!!!) but even at the other shows, i've been front row filming away and know that the band security isn't being told to shut us down.
@ACELLOFAWARENESS Hey mate nice one for realising why i have 2112 after my name :) I am a huge Rush fan and have been for literally decades :)
I know exaxctly what you mean about the way some 'rented' staff get above their station. I think they do more harm than good for the band because for new fans where this might be their first proper gig and want a little momento form where they were sat watching them and they get grief from the hired help. It spoils the whole show.
@RumbleGuts2112 - you know what else dude? i think RUSH's private nature over the years (as well as humility & modesty) has added to their appeal. quite common with celebrities, the 'wall' sort of makes them more appealing because it's human nature to want a peek of the other side, and if you can't get it you just try harder LOL! anyway, good chatting man, if you watch the new RUSH dvd you can see me during Vital Signs, after Geddy hops around, the guy with the license plate & sign :)
Not sure if Rush ever strove for privacy- but their modesty and music never made huge headlines. Down to earth guys through and through. And that has earned them a remarkably loyal fan base that now spans generations.
I know their music well enough to know where they were headed. The audio on this is great. It's as if they made it so a camera phone could capture it well. Their security used to confiscate flash cards. Now they don't bother, because they know it will end up on YouTube, and further promote them.
I enjoyed watching this as much as I enjoyed watching the same song from the Pinkpop 31 years ago! Amazing how timeless this song is, and how comfortable Lifeson is playing it. He must have played it live 10,000 times since 1979! The solo gets to me every time.
I was 19 in 1979 and saw them on their Hemispheres tour. They, of course, did the entire album note for note. When the concert was over, myself and a thousands of others walked of the arena barely making a noise. We were stunned.
If Albert Einstein, Lenoardo DaVinci, and Isaac Newton formed a band, this would be it. THE GREATEST BAND on Earth, period.
this is absolutely fuckin amazing they are playin so fuckin good these guys are the best i saw them a couple monthes before this show in new jersey and it was fuckin incredible
I have little doubt that the guy recording this is indeed a musician. He knew what to catch & when to catch it. One could almost use this as an instructional video yet at the same time it's still great concert footage caught by a concertgoer. Job well done !
@YManCyberDude The cam was on a tripod, so you gotta ask yourself, who sits in the front row and is allowed to mount his HD cam on a tripod? The guy who sat in the front row and took the video is a videographer or someone involved with the video production.
@electron115 Actually, no tripod- and I'm just a long-time fan, not involved with the production. Amazingly they let me shoot what I wanted, and it had to be pretty obvious ;) Rush is very good to their fans.
had hindsight been known before oompa like if when i ged up at 7maam and have a spliff, could you be talking to me, imagine the fascist world jumping my self mon just for slappin' de who dat mon a mocha tocha morning glory tote m'bote, me sugarybible not even ...

This is too cool (actually very very hot) at exactly 6:57 into the video you can see my beautiful wife Karen in her bright orange shirt and half of me sitting next to her, backstage, in my standard tie-dye:-)
Great video. I have just one question. It says "front row" in the description. Were there actual rows of chairs or was it regular standing rows? I ask because I have tickets for Rush in Europe this May, and it says that I have floor seats in row 18. If there will be chairs, I will be very disappointed...
@RTMorasonMD2 Yeah, and I found out that there will be actual chairs on this show too. It's an arena that has some 15 000 seats. Take away a section for the stage, but add a thousand or more on the floor, it's still some 15 000. But floor seats? I don't like that idea. I like to get as close to the stage as I can, I'm always early to the venue,... The guy I talked with from the ticket company says that every other Rush show has seats. So I guess they'll be back in a year :)
Great job!! Both sound and video are great. One of the best shot boots of Rush !!I have seen. And the close-up on Lerxst's solo of pure gold. Thanks for sharing.
Got tickets for when they bring the Time Machine over here to the UK!! This is one old rock chick who's going to be ecstatically happy near the stage in May 2011!
Okay, that's sick that you have such great seats!

I followed this tour around, best concerts ever... my first Rush concerts :)
JDGcamo 7 months ago
I have little doubt that the guy recording this is indeed a musician. He knew what to catch & when to catch it. One could almost use this as an instructional video yet at the same time it's still great concert footage caught by a concertgoer. Job well done !
YManCyberDude 7 months ago 14
@YManCyberDude The cam was on a tripod, so you gotta ask yourself, who sits in the front row and is allowed to mount his HD cam on a tripod? The guy who sat in the front row and took the video is a videographer or someone involved with the video production.
electron115 3 months ago
@electron115 Actually, no tripod- and I'm just a long-time fan, not involved with the production. Amazingly they let me shoot what I wanted, and it had to be pretty obvious ;) Rush is very good to their fans.

DUPA! that was some good RASH! The audio quality in this video is also really good.
branboyd86 10 months ago 3
This was perfectly executed and you, my friend, snook an excellent camera into the show. It's too bad Geddy's bass requires a master microphone.
Note the increase in tempo during the 7/8 section and the extra hi-hat echo notes during the guitar solo.
drummerpablo1 11 months ago 18
@drummerpablo1
I'd say the increase in tempo means it WASN'T perfectly executed, to me that's a mistake :P
JDGcamo 7 months ago
@JDGcamo
I'd say that you haven't been to enough Rush shows in the same tour! :P
It was expensive but I was fortunate enough to catch them twice this year, and they made the same "mistake" every time.
drummerpablo1 7 months ago
@drummerpablo1
Well then I won't question them because they're Rush, and Rush is God.

This is too cool (actually very very hot) at exactly 6:57 into the video you can see my beautiful wife Karen in her bright orange shirt and half of me sitting next to her, backstage, in my standard tie-dye:-)

NihilismSauce21 1 year ago
Thanks for these vids of RUSH RT. These are superb ! We were 7th row on Geddy's side. Looked and sounded just as good over there !
cjc427 1 year ago 5
Great video. I have just one question. It says "front row" in the description. Were there actual rows of chairs or was it regular standing rows? I ask because I have tickets for Rush in Europe this May, and it says that I have floor seats in row 18. If there will be chairs, I will be very disappointed...
stakleni00 1 year ago
@stakleni00 There were actual chairs at this show (not that anyone was using them ;)
RTMorasonMD2 1 year ago 6
@RTMorasonMD2 Yeah, and I found out that there will be actual chairs on this show too. It's an arena that has some 15 000 seats. Take away a section for the stage, but add a thousand or more on the floor, it's still some 15 000. But floor seats? I don't like that idea. I like to get as close to the stage as I can, I'm always early to the venue,... The guy I talked with from the ticket company says that every other Rush show has seats. So I guess they'll be back in a year :)
stakleni00 1 year ago
@stakleni00 holy crap does alex completely astonish me what a talent! speed and precision these guys are amazing!

Love Alex's little "ouch that one hurt my hand" at the end.
Absolutely epic is this group. I missed the first leg of this tour which means I have to drive 400 miles to NYC to see them play this time around.

Great job!! Both sound and video are great. One of the best shot boots of Rush !!I have seen. And the close-up on Lerxst's solo of pure gold. Thanks for sharing.
