there are others i prefer more as cherubino, but she does rein in that formidable instrument very well here and i really like hearing the boyish side of cherubino for once. alot of singers cant muster that
I used to have this on a record years ago. Perfect singing, exciting interpretation-she really brings out the meaning of the words (as she does in everything). A great artist, right from the start.
I remember hearing this for the for the first time in the early sixties and being gob-smacked. Cossotto was what we had waited for. Love her in this recording - pity she was so competitive with sopranos - she had no need to be.
I love Cherubino with a bit of weight in the voice! This as near perfect as i could hope for, thank you so much for posting it! Is the recording still in catalogue?
This is Cossotto? Really? Outstanding - the voice is surely hers, but it's an uncharacteristic role, sung in a most uncharacteristic way. The lady was a better actress than I thought.
Then again, since no one can really agree on whether Cherubino should be a Mezzo or a Soprano, Cossotto is probably a logical choice - a great Mezzo with the squillo of a Soprano.
fantastica!!!

Wow. She sings this so beautifully. Nice to hear the tenderness in her singing. I like her phrasing too.

It was released in '61 but recorded in '59. Cossotto was 24 then and before her big breakthrough in '62 performance of La Favorita.

When I was a young teenager, circa 1973, I had a recording of Mozart's "Lucio Silla" in which she sounded much as she does here. Wish I still had it!

i don't think her acting got really goofy until she got a bit older :)
