  • Divino!

  • I love those powerful percussion!

  • I've listened to countless recordings of the eighth, and I think this one is very good. As many others have pointed out, there are some limitations (ahem, vibrato?), but the sense of ensemble and structure overcomes them. Audible percussion that is not lost in the 'mud' is important here, as is the antiphonal brass, who have choked in far more 'renowned' ensembles than this. Here, they are secure and clear.

  • It's refreshing to see a young conductor do this piece. Bravissimo!

  • If only this were in A432Hz tuning.

  • The vibrato of the second soprano scares me... Like that you can ruin this marvellous passage...

  • I agree with the sterile hall comment. The sounds do not blend to create an all-encompassing whole. Also, the video production is distracting and amateurish, like a high school or undergraduate video production. Decent musicianship, though agree that 2nd soprano is all wrong for this part.

  • @plien69

The video production was low budget and only for the remembrance and documetation of the concert. There was no commercial intension. Also Your impression is right, but I think the quality of the video production cannot destroy the musical energy. An other problem is, that the achitecture like an amphit theatre of the Cologne philharmonic hall does not allow to switch out the light completly in the audience area. So you can see the faces of the audience all the time.

  • This is the most sterile concert hall (and audience) I've seen. It's scary. This is Mahler not "Super 10". :(

  • Му favourite part from 3:26 and to the end.

  • Wonderful interpretation! Thank you for the energy you put into the soundquality. It pays off. Next time get another cameracrew and fire your editor.

  • I love that the camera is vibrating from the percussion at 5:06 and 5:25

  • A good interpretation. I like how he does not hold back the percussion section, which many conductors do. It's the song of the universe. Let the tam-tam, cymbals and tympani confirm it.

  • this is quite good, one of the best on youtube, nothing beats horenstein, though...

  • Excellent orchestra. Excellent tempi. Second soprano, however, is awful. Very heavy voice. Her voice should float over the orchestra. She cannot match Lucia Popp in Solti's recording.

  • Great! Perfect tempi, marvellous tam-tam and brass! Even better than Solti's legendary recording!

  • What about the end of the first movement? Gloria patri domine?

  • @ThaSchwab Many thanks for your interest. Gloria patri is online now. All best
