I HAD A 70HP, THEY R GREAT MOTORS LOTS OF POWER,GREAT ON GAS, VERY SIMPLE & REALIABLE TOO,THERE PROBLEMS WERE, MANY OF THE PARTS R DISCOTINUED NOW,NOT EVEN AFTER MARKET AND THEY DID OVER HEAT,CUSE AN ALUMINUM PLATE UNDER THE POWERHEARD WOULD ROT AWAY & U WOULD LOOSE ALL OF UR WATER PRESSURE,EVEN THO UR PUMP WAS PUMPING 100%
THERE WERE PROBLEMS WITH OVERHEATING I THINK THE WATERPUMPS WOULD DRY OUT OVER DOWN TIMES AND EVEN THOUGH THEY PUMPED WATER WHEN UNDERWAY THEY WOULD LOOSE PRESSURE SO A TEARDOWN OF THE PUMP WAS CRITICAL COMPARED TO OTHERS MY 1964 60HP AND 75HP ONLY NEEDED 1 REPLACEMENT PUMP BUT ,MY FRIEND 45 HP CHRYSLER NEEDED 2 PUMPS AND IT WAS A 1970 MY JOHNSON 1970 40HP NEVER NEEDED ONE BUT IT DID THROW A ROD (LOOSE BOLT)
30 miles on 12 gallons of gas? At what cruising speed is this? I recently got an older boat I'm fixing up with a 135 on the back and it has an 18 gallon tank. Now I see why. I'm used to a 60 outboard on my Bass boat and that is pretty easy on gas. Now I got a 17' 6" Tri-Hull with this 135 so I guess it is going to gulp gas...
Nice. I just got me a 1977 Chrysler 135 HP engine and it's awesome. This engine has been sitting in a barn for 20 years or so and is in excellent condition. 150 PSI on all four cylinders. I love the simplicity of these engines. It's on an Arrow Glass Cheetah 17' 6" boat and is the original motor on this boat. Can't wait to get her in the water. Guess I better take it easy on the throttle if you get 30 miles to 12 gallons of gas. I got an 18 gallon tank so it won't be too bad if I stay out of it
Hay quick question... I own a 1972 Chrysler Conquer 130 engine and I can"t find the emblems for the cover of the engine... Do you know where you could find some?
These old Chryslers would smoke anything out there back in the day, including Mercury, from what I hear. Don't get rid of it! Your grandkids would love to own this. You can sit the kids around the campfire and tell stories about it, and watch the amazement in their eyes! The tallness of the powerhead is intimidating!
i had a 105 and you couldn't kill the damn thing. would pull skiers all day long for years and never die. was running good when i sold it. what a motor!
@matzpimp That is a great motor. Always run just a little more oil with your gas than the standard 50 to 1 ratio. I always added about 4-6 more ounces than called for in a 6 gallon gas tank. I only used Mercury "Quick Silver" outboard oil. It was highly recommended by an outboard mechanic of 35 years experience. He also loved the Chrysler motors. I also only ran American/Amaco (BP) high test gas. This is what the old timers called "white gas". It is pure gasoline and nothing else added, I hear.
Very Cool. I have a Chrysler 45hp on a 14.5ft Kauri hardwood double-ply Hartley designed hull. (I'm in New Zealand by the way) It's an awesome motor, if not a little thirsty... Got 2 complete spare engines when I purchased the boat too. I watch guys in new boats struggle to get them started (Always making others wait) on the ramp and I slide my ole girl off the trailer and it starts 1st time... Take that! Ha Ha. Great fun and has never let me down.
Great Video its helped me out alot current im having issues with my water pump. I should have mine up and running wensday. Curiously what year is your motor.
anyone whos looking for a propeller for this particular motor i have one i am selling(in australia)pick up from scarborough qld for $150 ono just comment my page
my dads got a 12.9 and a 20 chrysler they run great all the time start first second pull and then we have a 55 evinrude and it runs good but not as good as the chryslers
thats quite the boat man... i like it.. nice motor too.. seems like a pretty new boat to have such an old motor on it lol, those chryslers will get up and go. i just traded my old 25 for a johnson 25.. chrysler wasent working properly needed all kinds of work couldnt afford it...
This is great. That this is very well maintained. Did you restore it? My uncle had dual 130 Chryslers on his Aquasport. Those things were every bit as fast as the old Mercs, but the saltwater ate them alive. They only lasted about 4 years. He reconditioned one of them and put it on a new bass boat... one of the first Skeeters with a regular performance hull. It went so fast that the boat would "walk" as they said at the time. I love the noise, and the fact that you're taking such good care of it
It was overhauled in 2000. Keep it in the garage and run it in fresh water here in Florida. Some times I run it in the St. Johns river which is brackish but it receives a good fresh water rinse and a flush after I run it.
Beautiful ... thanks ! Brings back memories of my Dad's 105 and 120 motors on his blue 1970 Charger 183 boat that he purchased in fall of 1970. The boat/motor was the official ski boat used during the Canada Summer Games. Seems to me we had a 135 here in Canada (I also recall a "racing" 150 from an old brochure with twin chrome exhaust tips out the side of the hood.) Chrysler Marine was big here as well. Your Conqueror looks great. Keep up the excellent work.
Bummer they´re gone, would have loved to see them around making new engines today. Especially after Chrysler bounced back as they did in their car division in the 90´s, they could have afforded developing their outboards.
I remember how nice the Chrysler boat dealership was when we purchased this boat in 1974. The boat dealerships generated much attention and where very well organized and staffed. This boat was purchased at the Chrysler Crew dealership that was located on Riverside drive in 1974 Fort Collins Colorado. This boat was ahead of its time and was a real head turner in 1974. It seemed at the time that Chrysler was on a roll manufacturing boats and outboard motors to match.
I think the reason for Chrysler having a bad rap is because of the sudden lack of support for the outboards that they manufactured. Around 1984 Chrysler sold the outboard marine division to U.S. Marine to pay off government loans that Lee Iacoca procured to save the struggling car maker. Chrysler had big plans for the outboards but halted further engineering research and development when corporate executives got wind that the outboards would be sold to U.S. Marine.
bayliner were attched 2 chrysler when mercury bought bayliner thay had 2 buy chryslers as well so thay changed the motors name 2 force in stead of chryslers.
