Thanks for posting - I think its great that pearls of beauty like this get exposure here. I can't own all the music of my favorites but I can listen to them all here.
I didn't know Gets and Evans had collaborated... again it seems like an unlikely pairing but the result is awesome.
Billfreaks, you are invited to a beautiful Bill Evans master class on YT! The class includes an in-depth analysis of Bill's classic solo performance "A Time for Love". You will LOVE this, promise:) Type in "Dave Frank" Bill Evans on YT.
Oh the sound, the sound - how does Stan Getz make a tenor sax sing like that?
And with Bill Evans the master of introspective harmonic brilliance this takes you to a special place where all you can do is listen and be enraptured by the peacocks dazzling display.
@paganmaestro Indeed. Check a contemporary, all string, gypsy jazz version from France by Sebastian Giniaux. Incredible. But still Jimmy's will live forever....
To me, the most enticing part of jazz is not the improvisation or the massive layering of the big bands or even the intricacies of cool jazz, it's the incredible fact jazz musicians are so transcendent in their work and they understand the true joy in playing music for music's sake, thus resulting in amazing collaborations such as The Jazz Messengers, anyone who has ever worked with Miles Davis, and this very tune.
The two coolest men in all of jazz: what a musical experience unlike any other.
Classic jazz. Dexter Gordon also does a fine job on this tune in the sound track from Round Midnight. Thanks for posting this beautiful, haunting piece.
It is sad that drugs/the drug lifestyle took both of these great geniuses away from us far too soon. Bill Evans, along with McCoy Tyner, was probably the most influential pianist of the latter half of the twentieth century. Stan Getz's tone is so beautiful here and also very haunting. This is a real gem and I'm glad someone posted it on here.
I so love this, I can't even express how much. I had recorded it onto tape some years ago and didn't know what it was called, or even that it was with Bill Evans - the best version in my opinion. I managed to track it down on Spotify by a painful process of elimination! Will we see their like again?
Something sacred about the pairing of these 2 transgressive masters of lyricism. The composer of this masterpiece, Jimmy Rowles, was a favorite accompanist of the exquisite vocal artists Billie Holiday and Carmen McRae.
I love how everyone commenting, comment nice and not with those ignorant youtube comments, i am at peace.
Thanks for the post!
This song is simply surreal!

Both Stan Getz and Coltrane, died from liver cancer, really sad. And of course Bill Evans, died from heroin addiction.
Rest in peace.

At 6:43, Stan Getz wish Bill a happy birthday.
It was August 16, 1974, Bill was 45 years old

@Phtodan It wasn't Dexter, but Wayne Shorter. However, you're right, this version is really great ;)
And this one, with two of the most lyrical jazz musicians ever... The best, for me
Guys, get the "But Beautiful" CD, it's really a gem!

I love this interpretation. Always wondered if the actual date was August 16, 1974 (Bill's Bday) or August 9, 1974 (as indicated in the liner notes).
