xmax isnt everything, its how hard the subwoofer pushes the air while its excurting, for example, you can have a sub that will do 150 db and have only 1/2" excursion cause it pushes the air really hard really fast and have another subwoofer do 110 db and have 3" of excursion and it pushes air, but not that hard and not as fast

If the Xmax is this high, then since the cone is traveling so far, its going to create a very airy sound. The port will make a loud chuffing sound, and just the acoustics will be horrible, everytime it hits a low note it will sound bad. If you want to acheive a high SPL rating, then its not a high Xmax you are looking for, its a good FS and high SPL 1 watt 1 meter rating

@ManRossDamn I also forgot to metion you want a large cone area, 18" is best, besides 21" which is very good. Not to heavy of a cone to lower efficiency. Now also, when getting an SPL sub, when I said a high 1 watt 1 meter sensitivity rating, I meant around 95db, which is hard to find, but they even make 100db ratings which are expensive subwoofers. ;-) But it is NOT all about high xmax subwoofers. Subwoofers like this are overkill and sound bad. Now pls know what your talking about before rude

hs not this tech existed for a long time just not used in subs..as far as i can remember the most basic and cheap ass woofers as well as high end companies used this type of ribbed suspension. fact is they were used on mid ranges and bass drivers not subs for a reason i speculate to be just as smigletat said..control within the gap..adire used motor designs to maximise the excursion while keeping distortion at an all time low..all this says you cant throw on suspension w/o proper motor designs.

Xmax isnt everything. the SPL must be incredibly low on these drivers due to the fact that the surface area is dramatically reduced. heavier longer coils to even get close to control. and a rediculous amount of power to get anywhere near loud.

No to mention retarded THD levels.

But they would be low-end monsters in a big enclosure, don't see a 12 inch sub with Fs3 workin well in a 2.2cu ft enclosure.
