The (West)German Esbit Stove and it's British counterpart, the Hexamine Stove, both give more stability and no toxicity from galvanization. If you can decide, go for one of them. They are not made to be used only for a short time and then be discarded.
And now it's time to get out my old Esbit stove and enjoy a cup of tea from my Vargo TiLite Mug. modern gear meets ancient surplus stuff :-) Haven't used it in a while, thx for reminding me that i had one laying around.
Excellent question. I've wondered that myself. The metal is cheap and it corrodes. I think the folding stove was mean to use and throw away after a while. Yes, galvanized metal is toxic, but I think it's okay to cook on as long as you don't cook directly on the galvanized surface. Always use cooking pots. I have another video where the folding stove is made out of brass.
Dude I could kiss you! I just got a Esbit pocket stove in (Im new to this camp/survival stuff) and I was so pissed that the fuel cubes did not fit in the the pocket stove. I went all over the internet looking for a smaller pack to fit. I came across your vid saw how you put them in (DUH! ha). I ran downstairs and BAM they fit! Whoo Hooo!!! Thanks man!
@cber8860 No, I did not use the original tabs, but I can say this. The original tabs smell bloody aweful. When I bought these stoves at the military surplus, the bulk of them smelled awful. Unexplainable odor. Performance wise, I would imagine the original tabs worked just fine. I choose not to use the original tabs.
Each fuel cube lasts about 8 to 10 minutes. If you are done cooking and you still have the fuel cube remaining, you can blow it out and save it for next time.
I have a bush buddy ultra and it won't fit in my MSr titan, any ideas on how to make something to protect the ultra but still put it in the bushbuddy ? need to make some kind of protective lid about 3 inches deep and diameter of titan.
i really dont want to buy a snow peak 900 just to fit in my bb
I like the use of aluminium foil, I will have to try this myself. Would it also deflect some of the heat back up that would otherwise go into the cooker?
The foil doesn't not effect the heat the way I have it set up as a liner, but If you fashion it differently, say like a windscreen, it would concentrate the heat.
@dgl1962 I have a Trangia stove too and you just made me think of something. I'll see if the Trangia alcohol burner fits inside of the MSR Titan Kettle.
holy moly, when im out in the woods i could cook me some ramen noodles

huntinguy532 9 months ago
@huntinguy532 I would imagine at a sporting goods store or a military surplus store.

MsSpy 11 months ago
@MsSpy also where can you buy the fuel packs? My local surplus store doesnt sell them only the stoves and the fuel packs they come with
falconsfan720 11 months ago
@falconsfan720
Try a sporting goods store or outdoor gear retailer like REI or Sports Chalet.
MsSpy 11 months ago
@falconsfan720 I would recommended using Weber Lighter cubes carried by most major Hardware Stores such as home depot and lowes.

dont eat those blocks they make you have a runny bottom for a week!
kingbleah 1 year ago
I just ordered a Titan kettle,expensive,but super light and impossible to corrode.
I use the mini triangle alcohol stoves(you can use the heating tabs with those as well placed on the bottom instead).

@MsSpy
So why do you have this type of cooking apparatus?
I have a cabin in the FL Everglades and occasionally camp there.
dgl1962 1 year ago
@dgl1962 I use the East German folding stove for emergencies. It's small enough to carry in pocket, or day pack without lugging around a stove.

@MsSpy
Yep,living in so FL I have many hurricanes with the inevitable power outages for up to 2 weeks,so I have plenty of backups.
