Zubairalihussain .....be moral dont use drugs...your quite wrong, how is someone immoral for using drugs...90% of the world uses some medication or drug to cure or fix some illness ...soo your saying everybodys immoral...your soo wrong dude...mabey your the immoral one .I think u need you need to get a shovel dig a hole 6 feet deep croak and die...what about christians who force and shove there WORD down peoples throats and never give up with it, how are they not immoral for hating other people
End the war on drugs. Legalize all drugs, enough violence, wasted resources and money, and infringement on peoples right to use the drugs they want. This is not only a practical issue but a moral one.
@TheRetiredtrucker There will always be a demand for currently illegal drugs. The goal of eliminating demand of drugs to win the war on drugs is foolish and unrealistic. In fact, since the war on drugs began, ONLY the U.S. govt has spent about 1 trillion dollars. The result: drug consumption levels are exactly the same. Legalization is the only permanent and logical solution.
@zubairalihussain I agree with you there , but the problem is when people abuse the drug, then start committing crime to feed their habit. Dint say if the drugs were legal they wouldn'y have to steal/rob. With other addictions. like gambling people are willing to do a lot to feed their habit. Then there is the additional costs of having to take care of the junkies (Conic alcoholics fit here too) I understand and support paying to help disabled ppl, not when its self inflicted
@TheRetiredtrucker I understand where youre coming from, but if you really look at it drug abuse is not self-inflicted.Most drug addicts have mental health issues and they use drugs to cope with their debilitating symptoms. Btw maintaining junkies isnt very expensive. So all in all, what you see as self inflicted,is most often a mentally ill/disabled person, whether neurotic or psychotic. They use drugs to deal with immense psychological pain.I'm speaking from first hand experience with addicts.
@TheRetiredtrucker I'm not sure, but i think you said people would still have to steal for their fix if drugs were legal. The simple fact that a drug is illegal increases it's price between 5 to 20 times as normal. In switzerland,i believe, they have a program to give certain heroin addicts the option of unlimited pharmaceutical heroin at the price of 15 $ a day.The program has shown when they are given their fix without needing to steal, they can thereafter live relatively normal lives and succeed.
@zubairalihussain Didn't know about program the Swiss were running I'll look it up ty. I can just say, from what I have seen that the legalization of drugs would be a mistake. Ask any trucker about "Lot Lizards" truck stop prostitutes. Most of these women are addicts trying to feed their habits, you can sit in the cab watching them go from truck to truck, very sad.
@TheRetiredtrucker I agree, that is very sad.But the fact remains that drugs are illegal and these prostitutes are still using them. With legalization, the cost of drugs would be a fraction of what it is now, they wouldnt need to resort to this for paying for their drug habits.it would be easier to find these people and give them treatment if they wish,as well as clean needles to reduce disease. With the $ saved from jailing/prosecuting,catching drug users/dealers, you could use it to help them.
@zubairalihussain But its not the cost that is the problem with sever drug abuse, it's the fact that they are no longer able to work at all. Would you allow your kids bus driver to go to work after droppin 2 tabs of acid? Do you want your mechanic to forget to torque your wife's lug nuts cause he just smokes some wheelchair pot behind the shop when she loads your kids up for a run down the interstate? Want your surgeon to take a few mushrooms before operating on you?
@TheRetiredtrucker People who want to use drugs are already using them.So if your surgeon, driver, mechanic etc. wanted to use drugs they already are. Legalization won't increase the rate of people using drugs habitually. Also the same applies for alcohol.Sticking to your argument,if alcohol is legal why dont surgeons, drivers, mechanics drink while on the job?because they will get in trouble if they are impaired.Same applies to drugs.I doubt anyone is stupid enough to be on drugs while working.
@zubairalihussain Really? In my own industry, 5% of the accidents involve the use of drugs or alcohol on the drivers part. And ya, July 6 at Heathrow airport, police arrested a plot after failing a breathalyzer as he was about to fly a transatlantic flight to Chicago... Usually i can tell if you've been drinking, either by your eyes or smelling it on your breath. Cant smell heroic or coke sorry
@TheRetiredtrucker I dont thats an excuse for making the vast majority of people who don't bother others while using, to go to prison for years. If they are impaired in any way, even by low blood pressure because they forgot to take their meds, they should be held accountable for their destructive actions. But for the rest, just send them to prison cuz you can't tell if they're high or not when they're working?thats outrageously senseless. If they make a mistake they should sue for that, not the drugs.
@zubairalihussain ,,,They didn't choose to have low blood pressure or to have a seizure...people choose to ingest chemicals that will impair their cognitive abilities. Nope never said to send them to prison for suspicion of use...send them to prison for purchasing illegal drugs and using the same drugs. You know where the money people spend for pot and coke goes right? Read a little about what is goin on in Mexico right now. That's your drug dollars at work....34,000 killed in 4 years :(
@TheRetiredtrucker You made my point basically. With legalization there would be no cartels or violence. Those 34000 would've never died.Prohibition simply harms more than it solves.Addicts live a horrible and disease filled lifestyle because of the black market nature of drugs. Why should responsible users go to jail? Again, there is no difference among alcohol and drugs in this respect(alcohol is a hard drug). If people make mistakes on the job, they should be reprimanded regardless the reason.
@TheRetiredtrucker Have you seen what has happened in portugal?in 2001 i believe, all drugs were decriminalized. The rate of people trying drugs rose slightly for a few years. But the number of addicts dropped. The spread of disease through dirty needles was almost obliterated.Drugs lost their forbidden fruit aspect, and habitual use dropped. Doctors, drivers, mechanics, etc are not using drugs while working. If they are, they would've used them regardless of the legality, so that argument is invalid
@TheRetiredtrucker don't use drugs, all drug users should be imprisoned. ofcourse Tobaco, caffiene and alcohol are all addictive, but they are fine. However anyone caught with Cocaine should face years in prison - like two known self admitted Cocaine users George Bush and Barrack Obama /facepalm.
@neverfearchrisishere Though I dont always side with the police (lol personal differences) pretty much every one will agree, the majority of our societies problems arise from drugs or alcohol
@TheRetiredtrucker True. But we don't Ban alcohol, we treat alcoholics. And I don't see anyone throwing George Bush in Jail, when he admits to drug use in his autobiography - and yet people were sent to prison for years for *exactly* the same offense.
Drug abuse should be treated as a public health problem - like smoking, rather than as a police problem that forces users to give money to criminals.
Opium was legal & available for a long time, without society falling apart.
@TheRetiredtrucker True. But we don't Ban alcohol, we treat alcoholics. And I don't see anyone throwing George Bush in Jail, when he admits to drug use in his autobiography - and yet people were sent to prison for years for *exactly* the same offense. while he was in office
Drug abuse should be treated as a public health problem - like smoking, rather than as a police problem that forces users to give money to criminals

@neverfearchrisishere Do a little reading about the "Opium Dens " in the 1800's tho, they were a major problem then too, just families tended to cover it up. People used to but Laudanum (an opiate) over the counter. Hell, the 1850's version of speed was to ingest arsenic mixed in water. The problem I have is, everyone knows what will happen if you become addicted. Everyone has seen crackheads and meth heads, they know what their getting into, LOL and agree about Bush and Obama
@TheRetiredtrucker About the opium dens, there was no significant problem of opium or laudanum use. The reason why opium was made illegal is because it was a Chinese habit, and they wanted Chinese out or reduced in american communities. And if people want to use opium, if they don't harm anyone else, who are you to tell them what they can or can't put in their body. You are infringing on their right to privacy and telling them how to live their lives the way you want them to.Pretty selfish id say.
@zubairalihussain No actually, the selfish ones are the people who ingest narcotics and then need to be taken care of by society. When we have to pay for the methadone clinics and associated crimes committed by the degenerates who choose to destroy their live and the lives of those around them, think that's infringing on our rights isn't it? So who's more selfish?
@TheRetiredtrucker People who ingest narcotics are not immoral or selfish people. Drug dependence is a complex disease caused by a mixture of physical, social and psychological problems.Yes tax $ goes to methadone clinics or any other maintenance or harm reduction clinics but you would have to pay more tax dollars for jail. Which do you think is more effective? Google "Global Commission on Drug Policy" and read it.I hope you will take a more educated, humane, and practical stance on this issue.
@zubairalihussain But again, people have to take responsibility for their actions. I don't believe anyone in our society is ignorant of the effects of narcotics, both to them and society. How long do you want to coddle them, sorry drug use was a choice.... you make the choice you pay consequences
@TheRetiredtrucker I understand where ur coming from, but you have to realize, punishing drug addicts not just only doesn't help, but it makes matters worse.Did you read the global commission on drug policy report? It's a panel of very high up people, many heads of state, the u.n. and famous entrepreneurs including richard branson.
@TheRetiredtrucker Google "Global Commission on Drug Policy" and read the report. It won't take too long to read. Again, I hope your view on this issue will be more educated, humane, moral, and practical in the future.
