No, she still plays bass (mostly) and is playing bass in the video. It's a Gibson EB-3 (SG) Bass she's playing. They've been using two bassist, (Kim and Mark Ibold) since Rather Ripped I believe (although not on the record itself). Kim mostly played guitar on Washing Machine and a few other songs in that epoch.
Yeah, but he's been touring on and off with them since early 2006. However, I didn't know that he's actually a full-time member of the band now, thanks for the info. Hopefully he'll be able to take a sabbatical for the inevitable Pavement reunion in a few years...
no, kim gordan definitely still plays bass. i just saw sonic youth live a few days ago. she still plays bass its just that they have an extra touring guitarist and when they dont need three guitarists(like when they play their older songs) she just sings and like dances around. But on their albums and usually live she plays bass.
They had a concert in KC last night that I went to. She played both bass and guitar. I was actually surprised how much she played! But the concert kicked ASS! They did two encores!
I think the new versions of Shaking Hell and World Looks Red are better than the old ones. Unfortunately, I missed the part of the tour when they started doing World Looks Red, but I hope they'll keep bringing some older songs back like this. I'm still hoping to see Brother James eventually as well.
Man I miss their no wave leanings. I am in the process of forming a band that will try to do to pop music what bands like Sonic Youth and the Residents attempted. This is awesome.
best band ever.

saw them in Philly last summer. It was just the four of them and Kim was definitely playing bass.

Ah that's cool, can't blame her for wanting to experiment with a different instrument

That "session bassist" happens to be Mark Ibold from Pavement. He toured with them for quite a while, not sure if he's doing it anymore.

He joined the band not so long ago.
