They where Micromasters, they'd need an awful lot of members to make a combiner capable of fighting a combiner like Bruticus that is made up of full-size Transformers. So they used transformnig bases. Also they where toys and had to be advertised somehow.

I think it's probably for the best that Zone had only one episode. Had its moments, had the Micromasters, had the gestalts and Dai Atlas was a worthy Autobot leader but really, Zone was far too insane to fully appreciate and too barmy for its own good.

aside from the half ass fan dubbing, i thought it reeked of sheer pimpness. i love the american G1, but i like the japanese G1 continuity that much better. they managed to bridge so many gaps in the series. not to mention that a lot of the latter toys after the cartoon ended appeared in the japanese G1 universe. on top of that, after this was released, the rest of G1 continued in manga.
The true morons are the ones who think this series is better than the one released in America. Trypticon is not as big as Predaking, he's much MUCH bigger! With the negatives aside, it's pretty cool that they put in the micromaster characters though I noticed that the ones that are supposed to be Decepticons are now on the Autobots' side?
Yeah, it doesn't seem like a G1 episode, it was more like watching Grandizer on Force Five, than Transformers. Bring back Spike, Sparkplug and Chip. Anime kids are so friggin annoying and idiotic.
I for one, would like to see a reimagining of the G1 Transformers on American airwaves again...perhaps using the Alternators where the Decepticons used a modified Cosmic Rust and time travel and the Autobots and Decepticons had to transfer themselves into new bodies created through a joint project between car manufacturers and research labs...with the help of Sparkplug, Spike and Wheeljack

That was....lame as all fuck. Part was the voices as they really didnt fit but as a fan dub it was a good effort. :)
The cartoon itself jsut seemed crap. After the final death of Optimus the series really just took a dive.
