  • i want arachne browser the graphical browser than text browser

  • I miss that Energy Star logo..

  • Can the software and drivers work on earlier versions of DOS?

  • @VideoMajestic Yes they will most probably work on earlier versions.

  • Interesting. So the ergodata greek character set is automatically applied by just running the program. Try caldera web browser. It is a graphical one, the best made for dos for my oppinion, better than the arachne.

  • I've done this, and not just for a fun exercise. I actually used Lynx as my web browser from time to time on my 60 MHz Pentium!

  • but i have 486dx2 too, and dos 6....

  • @alcalinebattery1

    exactly...

if you want the ultimate dos experience, go buy a cheap old PC someplace. 386 or 486 does just fine.

  • eeehhehhee i have 20mb of RAM >|). more than u have :D

  • does it work with a LAN (local area network) connection?

  • @alcalinebattery1 yes. the cable goes to the router.

  • this look like ur running windows command prompt

  • Where's the graphics? Where's the mouse?

  • You: Damn, load the image

Dos: Whats this image you speak of?

  • Ωραίοι τύποι εμείς οι ΄Ελληνες, ασχολούμαστε με αρχαιολογίες την εποχή των Windows 7!!!

  • Που μπορώ να καεβάσω το Lynx Web Browser;

  • amazing

  • A 486 DX2 66 with 16 megs of RAM was a MONSTER. Spared us from upgrading to a Pentium for a LONG time. (and then there was an 'OverDrive' chip).

A 16 meg 486 was like a system now shipping with 16 GIGs of RAM. Just doesn't happen. Most systems back then shipped with 2..maybe 4 megs. I loved our 486 with 16 megs of RAM!

  • Ahh, DOS. Bet I can still cut a tightly-tuned autoexec and config.sys from memory... did it so many times...

  • If we still ran that system of internet, we could have been spared some of the morons that infest the 'net now. Yes, i'm talking to you.

  • Okay. I'm in the Lynx cabal now. Got 2.8.5 rel 1 working on my old machine with broadband. Is it cool? It is.

  • Well I got DOSLYNX .39b working. It is pretty much the same thing except you have easier navigation. My earlier mistake was trying to use the packet driver from the DOS windows shell. I should have known that the windows 3.11 networking had to be turned off, shelled out or run before even loading windows. I can send email with it too. Works great with a ramdrive and protected mode.

  • I'll stick to Win32 :P

  • ma eisai ellinas?!

  • @SubscribeThe yes.

  • @Metor153 mpravo ;p

  • @SubscribeThe That was fail. We don't want to see your computer booting up for 80% of the video.

  • wraios o ellinas :D

  • I have a 686 running 3.11 and I have been trying to get my head around the .bat files I have to configure for dos386 Lynx. It's a bit confusing. I managed to get the packet drivers working, but I'm getting dos enviroment errors.

If you succeed in setting up Lynx, you are a man my son.

    I'm still a boy I guess.

  • No good, you can't look at porn :(

  • @Neoplan6o Double lol

  • if you can find the dos port of elinks or links2 they are able to render basic images.

  • Can it play Crysis XD

  • @tamatama14 that joke get so old, be original next time, kid.

  • @tamatama14 moron can still play Doom, the best game of ms dos!

  • AWESOME!

  • Songname?

  • You: Damn, load that image already

DOS: What is this, Image, you talk of?

  • @ShadowRSonic lol

  • are you use dial-up or tcp? i dont see anny dial-up dialogs......

  • No. I am using an ISA NE2000 Ethernet Network Interface Card (standard rj11 cable), which is connected to my router.

  • Most of the time, Lynx is all you need. Flash has taken over the web and it's not an open standard.

  • lol its neat but i think the browser can't really be used for anything more than just links and text on pages no images or anything like that but it would be neat

  • cool...that's some old hardware you got there up and running :)

  • wow LOL it looks just like in windows :) j/k

  • Sweet
