No they're not extinct, I saw a juvenile for sale last week at a shop in Blackfen, S. London.
Not my idea of the perfect pet spider though, I've gone for a Chile Rose.

Yes and no they are NOT extinct. Check out the Golden Orb weaver too, so big it can catch and finch in its web. EEEEK!
