Why a stupid cover? Of course Saxon is paying a tribute to King Crimson, band of the genius Robert Fripp. No cover can be as good as the original. Very rare ones get maybe almost as good as the first versions. I always considered Saxon a very good band. Iron Maiden and Saxon always selled many albums in Brazil, despite a very low advertisement, especially Iron.
Of course, this version does not compare with the congenial King Crimson classics, although this - is very well done - by themselves. SAXON just typical. A comparison was also never been Saxon's intent. I see this a lot more as a homage to the original.

Saxon is a Metal band and one of the better ones and the glam metal critic should be glad that there is not only hellish Black Metal shit. And this interpretation of the King Crimson original is the best a hard rocking band can do with it or are there better covers? I do not know Kingdom Hearts and I will check them next.

This is a great cover. All the negative comments are not right. There is only one thing, and I'm probably just a bit old, but, the equalizing is a bit too much at the upper part of the midrange for my older ears. Other than that, this is really great! Maybe I should get an equalizer for my headset!

Truly ace version of King Crimson's song. Saxon were (are) so talented it beggars belief. Wheels of Steel, Strong Arm of The Law, Denim and Leather, Saxon (the first album), The Power And The Glory. I lost interest after this as they decided to go glam-rock. They were my favourites OF ALL for a while - ahead of even AC/DC and Motorhead. They show their natural born talent again here.

That said, what makes this cover great is that it evokes a totally different feeling than the original (less eerie, more...epic) without betraying what made that one great. I agree with you--it gives you different facets of the same story, and for that, it's a great cover.

My point is that Saxon's version has attributes of a stirring, metallic, powerful version, while the original one shows the more mental, deep, enchanting and unique approach (this is why, considering Saxon's version doesn't humiliate King Crimson's in any way, the versions are not to wrangle each other), which, as you've probably realized by now, is preferred by both of us. :)

Great song, Average band. I am sorry but Saxon has not King Crimson' musical quality. I listened Saxon & many others for many years day after day (well, 28 years ago my favorites music styles are "Heavy Metal", "Hard Rock", or say it like you want. Now I listen sometimes Led Zeppelin, Deep Purple or some AC/DC but I prefer KC, Porcupine tree, CGT, Peter Hammill, or Nyman,Cage,Glass. I like Hancock,Metheny, The best is to listen different kinds of music. I am not "Heavy" or "Emo" I am only ME

Any of you ever heard Doc Severinsen's cover of this? It's amazing. His trumpet lead is powerful, bringing a focus & intensity that's mind-blowing, yet when he reins it in for the parts that require a more subtle touch, it's so evocative it's just as thrilling. I highly recommend it to anyone with an open mind.

@AA10Megaviv I prefer the original, myself, because my favorite thing about it was that it was an atmospheric song.
That said, what makes this cover great is that it evokes a totally different feeling than the original (less eerie, more...epic) without betraying what made that one great. I agree with you--it gives you different facets of the same story, and for that, it's a great cover.

@SeventhHanyou Well, I agree with everything you said - I myself also definitely prefer the original one. My point is that Saxon's version has attributes of a stirring, metallic, powerful version, while the original one shows the more mental, deep, enchanting and unique approach (this is why, considering Saxon's version doesn't humiliate King Crimson's in any way, the versions are not to wrangle each other), which, as you've probably realized by now, is preferred by both of us. :)
