On 11-22-1963 I was a four year old in Colma CA, watching a "Pete and Gladys" rerun...they were trapped in a snowbound lodge and were drawing straws when the first news flash came on.
Many refer to this as the day that America officially lost its innocence. This was the 1960's version of 9-11 where America officially lost its sense of security.
I don't care who you are... Shooting a politician just because you don't like them is wrong. God sees everything, so beware when thinking hateful thoughts toward someone in that position, or anyone else for that matter.
I think the one still of the motorcade with the police in the foreground is actually from the Miami trip one week prior. I don't believe the Chrysler vehicle behind the SS Cadillac was part of the Dallas motorcade. Also looks like palm trees in the background.
Setting aside Langley, VA, in the early 1960s the CIA's largest facility was located on the University of Miami campus. Code named JM/WAVE, the facility was staffed with hundreds of Cuban exiles who hated Fidel Castro most of all, John F. Kennedy second of all, followed by the remainder of the Kennedy clan.
Read Joan Didion's 1987 book 'Miami.' Los exilos pull strings in Washington like no group has ever pulled strings.
I don't care what party you affiliate with... killing or attempting a killing any president is WRONG!!! Isn't it eerie... 46 years when he died and now 46 years later we still remember November 22, 1963.
Interesting what specific information they have on the shooter minutes after it happened ??? How can that be?
they describe Oswald almost to the T.
Seems as though someone (official) gives description immediately, so as to utilize Oswald as the patsy he was.
Throw them off the others. Too much has come out since to not only dispute the Warren Com., but also too many eye witnesses testifying to the same thing, and being dismissed by authorities.
Regan,LBJ and Tricky Dicky were all members of the same tribe with the Bush's continueing the powers to be into the years.the only thing Nixon and LBJ had in common were the JFK and RFK assassinations...you won't guess who was Nixons money connection with the mob back in his California political days...Jack Ruby.from the day JFK was told he was taking LBJ as VP he was a dead man.there were plans to knock off JFK on a campaign swing thru California prior to the debates with Nixon
It was. I was in class 10th grade English in Arlington VA. All of a sudden the PA came on and the mike was next to the TV in the Principal's office. There was an announcement that the President had been shot. A kid in the back row jumped up and yelled, "Good!" My beautiful English teacher pointed her finger at him and said, "You little bastard sit down and shut up!" To this day hearing her curse was by far the most shocking thing I've ever seen.
Kudos to your English teacher! I don't get someone actually having the nerve to say "good" about such of an awful tragedy. That was beyond cruel. You were in 10th grade like my Mom. She told me about that horrible day many times. Thank you for sharing your experience with me. Having been born 8 years later, I have always been very curious.
yeah.... you're correct in your assumption that I was the one that wrote my name in cursive in jizz across your late mothers forehead, man you're good.....you're like a cross between Santa and the amazing Kreskin -you always know just whos naughty and nice and how things actually happened even if you wern't there however I did infact video tape the incident and contracted out to Marilyn Chambers corpse to sell it on one of those Time/life infomercials (Billy Mays is too busy with the Sham Wow)
I was just 8 years old at the time, & I remember this bulletin being originally aired on that very day! I was in 3rd grade, home from school sick that day, & CBS interrupted several times when I was on the couch & my mom was watching "As The World Turns". Some things in life, you just never forget!
If someone was 8 years old in November of 1963 they would have been born in 1955. That would make them 53 or 54 years old now depending the month they were born.
Interesting story because I was 9 on November 20, 1963 and home sick from school with my sister (also sick) and mom on the 22nd. My sister and I were on the couch when the new cast coverage was broadcasted. My mom loved the president and his family. She was very upset. I didn't understand the news. Was asking why and who shot him. Mom had to explain a crazy gun man, The day and days after including watching the tv coverage of the funeral changed my life and will never forget it.
The only TV news coverage that I've ever seen from after President Kennedy's assassination is the broadcast from CBS. I don't get it. Aren't there any archives of the NBC and ABC broadcasts?
I have a VHS of NBCs broadcast shortly after the assassination. I am looking for someone who has the CBS rebroadcast from 1983 to trade. The popularity of CBS news back then was, I'm sure, because of Cronkite.
Back then, the news networks only issued "bulletins" or "breaking news" if there was something important going on. Nowadays however, the networks will run the "Breaking News" headline if a cat gets stuck up a tree.
Journalism has become a morally repugnant industry.
Oh I couldn't agree more! You are so right. When a "bulletin" or "breaking news" popped up the screen I knew it was going to be big! And I love cats....lol!
I pray that the evil red neck evangelical christian neo conservative scum do not kill the next US president. For he who like Kennedy wants peace in the world and wants open dialogue with America's enemies. He who like kennedy is young and different to previous presidents.
I pray for the safety of Barack Obama the world is praying for change from a America that has been damaged by corruption and tarnished by George W Bush
Oswald was a left wing Communist who had a Russian wife and wanted to be a spy for the Russian government...he was anything but right wing...what kind of idiot would not know this?
John had won the presidency AND made history by being a catholic and winning.
Just think. Being in that motorcade, right next to your husband and president, enjoying the nice day and parade. People are clapping, there are small children next to their parents anxiously waiting for the president.
Then suddenly there are three shots fired. There is blood everywhere. The president, your husband, just died in your arms.
The world could have been so different if Lee Harvey Oswald never read a book. Even more, it could have been different if Karl Marx had never written a book. The influence of Lee Harvey Oswald lives on.
Ok, wait. Witnesses on the ground could tell that a face they glimpsed in the 6th floor window was a slender 165-pound 30-yr-old man without seeing his body? Did the public buy this stuff at the time? It's appalling the remaining documents won't be released 'till at least 2029.
Thank you, to the creator of this collected footage. The intro was scary and it puts you on the edge right away! We need never forget what happened that day. Walter Cronkite is great...he had to show the physical pictures. This looks so dated and I love it. No streamer, No digital pics. The news was raw at this time. Look at the desks..his coffee.
Thanks again..I hope young people seek this footage out. RIP JFK
This was one of the biggest plots against a world leader ever made!! amazing how well covered up it all is up to today....cause if the truth (whatever it maybe) was known there would have been a revolution against leadership manipulation!!
@pachi24igger It stinks, there should be an investigation into it, even now. It's obvious what was going on. And LBJ knew exactly what was going to happen, you can see it in his face afterwards, that he knows something. There's no shock whatsoever in his eyes, just glee at being in control.Texans are bastards.
"The secret service men, very well trained in their job"?? Yeah, right... I wonder how the medias knew everything about who the killer was, what he looked like and what rifle he had used only minutes after the shooting when Oswald hadn't even been arrested yet. This story is so full of shit.
@karyn27 - I actually am aware of the details and timeline of this case, unlike you...
The police in fact only had a general description of the suspect. You can't dispute that.
The police in fact recovered the rifle, and news photographers took photos of them bringing it out. I suppose the Dallas police detectives are part of the conspiracy too, right? Everyone is in on this massive conspiracy to kill the President, lol. Unbelievable.
@sudaev How do you know I'm not aware of it? I've read and watched enough to have a good idea; I'm very interested in the case. It could have easily been planted. It's not conspiracy it's just plain old fact. He was a Kennedy and obvious his brother got done in too. Have you seen the documentary when they analysed all the film, photos, directions etc? Pretty much nails it in my mind...and most others who've commented on here by the looks of things.
@karyn27 - Uh, the problem is that there is no reason to believe the rifle was planted. You waste half a paragraph telling us that theoretically it could have been planted....But It was Oswald's rifle, and there are photos showing him holding it! He in fact bought it using his alias!
See, you're claiming that Oswald didn't even do it....LOL! He splits from the depository right after someone was shooting HIS RIFLE upstairs.
And who would have planted it? Dallas PD is in on this too?
@sudaev he split like 5 minutes afterwards even talking to a police officer before leaving. I don't have any doubts he had a role or even did a part of the shooting but the claim he did it for fame when he never admitted to it has always been a laughable excuse especially when 4 of the warren commission members didn't even a hundred percent agree with the findings. Earl Warren himself always thought right or wrong it was a russian conspiracy.
Zodyce, the secret service participated in many violations of general security rule that day. The wide turn slowing down to single digit speed, no riders on the rear of the limo, no securing of the open windows overlooking Dealy, partying and drinking the night before in a Dallas club. that driver looks at Kennedy like 37 times before he actually steps on the gas. I think he's asking Kennedy what kind of pizza he likes.. What an idiot.. Gunshots =DRIVE! 4 days later, the plans change for Vietnam
@mdpk1 Yeah and how come no one held them to rights for killing their president. They must think we're all stupid and that people would fall for that bullshit. It's so obvious what was going on. I wasn't even born then but it still saddens me and infuriates me that it happened and those assholes got away with it.
I still remember the day this assassination occured: was 8 years old, home from school sick that day, & in the central time zone, "As The World Turns" was interrupted numerous times to relay the news. And It's so hard to believe that Walter Cronkite is STILL alive today...in his early 90s.
My mom worked in West Germany when she heard the bad news. Over the Atlantic, my old man had business to take care of at a Toronto office tower when someone pushed the TV set in the lobby, plugged it in an outlet, and broadcast Uncle Walter's continuing coverage of JFK's assasination. Dad had to push through the thick crowd just to see the ugliness unfold. A few cheered on the assasination, and dad gave them dirty looks. Others let out tears. This will never be forgotten.
oh my god i never even knew what kind of things he did as president, nor was i even alive when he was president, but when cronkrite announces that kennedy died, i made me sick to my stomach

The only part of Cronkite's report I take issue with is the comment about how "well-training" the secret service agents were. Clint Hill is the only one who really did his job that day. The rest -- Kellerman, Greer, etc. -- should have been booted out of the secret service for their failure to do anything to save JFK's life.
Kennedy SS "guards" used to call Kennedy a "nigger lover," according to Agent Bolden, Bolden was the sole black Secret Service agent who served Kennedy. JFK got him the job, after King raised the issue of no black SS agents with Kennedy. Both JFK and Bolden was resented by many of the white agents.
Calm down, sport. You should go down to your local Jr. College and sign up for a course in ESL. Learning English for the very first time is a daunting task, no doubt. But those English-as-a-Second Language instructors can help you with your spelling, sentence structure and overall grammar usage (which is, to say the least, less than average).
You can realise your potential, but only if you try, sport.
Hey dummy you spelled "realise" incorrectly! It's spelled (realize) you dumb bastard! Hahahaha, Hey folks these assholes always trip themselves up if you give them enough rope!
Nope, that's how you spell realise. Of course, being a boisterous Yank, you have to be different and spell it with a 'z'. rayjr62 is either British or Australian - the said rope's around your neck, 'shit for brains'.
Where is here? And what is limey? Oh dear, stop cutting me down by calling me limey! Oh, cut me down, cut me down! I lie here a 'cretinous' wreck 'coz you cut me down!
I don't believe in conspiracy theories; because people can't keep their mouth shut for that long. someone has to talk, or sell their story; people are impatient.
ummm, if he was a bolshevik, he wouldn't be rich, and he would have been trying to overthrow the gov't. last time i checked it was our right and duty to question our leaders, especially if they were doing as horrible a job as gwb has done.
well, i am not rich. i am liberal, but i don't think i am a bolshevik. i actually go to church on occasion. i don't begrudge anyone being rich, but don't do it on my back
How is this lie even relevant? You're a fucking idiot. You're one of these knuckleheads that uses the computers at the public library. Go lose your virginity, dink.
Everyone must read JFK and the Unspeakable: Why He Died and WHy it Matters by James W. Douglass.
This is it: walk off in the bottom of the nineteenth. Compleetly blows away Chomsky and Cockburn's controlled (CIA) left Vendeta against Kennedy. Kennedy WAS GOING TO END THE COLD WAR, NO DOUBT ABOUT IT ANYMORE.
I am very curious as to when this announcement concerning the suspect and the caliber of rifle, was made in relation to the time of the shooting. Do anybody know ?
They found the rifle on the 6th floor of the school depository building; the description was probably a half hour before he died at 1pm CST. The shooting took place around noon
The description of the suspect went out at 12:45 p.m., fifteen minutes after the shooting. The description of the suspect and the rifle came from a witness named Howard Brennan, who was standing across Elm from the Book Depository.
(This is from Vincent Bugliosi's book _Reclaiming History: The Assassination of President John F. Kennedy_, published in 2007.)
Oswald first told the reporters that he had no ideo he was even a suspect in the assassination because he was not charged with JFKs death. He was charged with Tippits muder. When he was officially charged with the Presidents assassination he declared that he was the patsy.
Keep diggin' them tunnels to China. This is obviously a collection of bulletins that, unfortunately, does not give the impression that time passed between broadcasts.
I wasn't alive when it happened, but my father, at the time, had just gotten out of the Army and was living around Houston, Texas working in an asbestos factory. He said when he heard it he was very sad. Til the day he died, in 2003, he said that he believed that Pres. Johnson had something to do with it.
Our country was in utter shock. To actually watch your president being Assassinatated in front of your eyes. It did a number on our countries soul at the time. The whole world stood still, watched & then cried with us. It was a 9/11 for our generation. It had the same impact. Even to this day. People knew where they were when President Kennedy was Assassinatated. Looking back on all these images. They are so haunting to look at. To witness history.
Is it not obvious? She did it in a blind panic from just seeing her husband's brains blown out all over the place. I'd wanna get the hell outta there too.
That's what I read too. A peice of his skull came off. She wanted to retrieve it. Or it could have been a peice of his brain. I can't quite remember. Something along those lines. Thanks. I forgot this being mentioned too.
She was trying to catch a piece of President Kennedys skull that had been blow off by the shot to his head. It landed on the street and was picked up by a secret service agent.
Yes, these people who have posted the answer are all correct. None of us know how we would react in that particular situation. As a 13 year old girl, I was impacted more than you will ever know by watching this story unfold.
All I can say is...Kennedy's life and his death affected me and to a point made me the person that I am today.
To get out of the line of fire probably. She's trying to get away from where ever the noise is coming from since she just witnessed her husband being killed. She basically knew that he died right then and there. Kennedy died before even getting to Parkland Hospital. He died instantly. I seriously doubt he made it alive at Parkland due to his injuries. Mrs. Kennedy when asked about climbing on the back of the limo. She couldn't recall it happening. Probably due to shock & not wanting to remember.
Less than five years later, Jackie Kennedy's brother-in-law RFK was assassinated in Los Angeles. This must have been hard on her and her young family - and they left for Europe shortly afterward. Her words, and I paraphrase, "They're killing Kennedys," have a poignant if morbid meaning - heaven knows what JFK and/or RFK would have done had they not been killed so violently.
Precisely. Oswald was told to be in the Book Depository at that time and day. He must have know he was deep in it when he learned JFK had been shot. Check out the video of his press conference after he was arrested. He said he knew he had been charged with killing a policeman. He was asked if he shot the president. Oswald says he had not been charged with that. Someone off camera tells him he has been charged. Oswald's expression says "Those bastards, I'm screwed".
Oswald repeatedly told reporters he didn´t shoot Kennedy and that he was a patsy. LATER he told the press he had no idea he was even a suspect in the assassination. That´s not an innocent man talking.
Cronkite: ".....The Secret Service Men well trained in their jobs......"
I'm sorry I have to laugh at this statement right here!!!
It's crap like this that gets me worried. A president who REALLY wants to change America and REALLY wants to change American Image seem to be doomed for death. I'm sick of Martyrs I want living, breathing, legends.
Please bare in mind, Freestuff, that although the official word had not been given, and therefore, no afficial announcement could be made over the air, one of the first witness's to give his account to the media had seen the majority of Pres. Kennedy's back-skull blown off. it did not surprise Mr. Cronkite, I suspect, to recieve confirmation of Pres. Kennedy's death.
Walter Cronkite was nothing but a propaganda script reader -- encouraging emotional wallowing instead of investigation and analysis. It was a bloody coup. JFK wanted to end the Vietnam War, the Federal Reserve, and CIA autonomy. Nixon and Bush Sr. were in Dallas that day, JFK's normal security detail was suspended, Dealy Plaza was crawling with CIA agents. By the end of the 1960s dozens of eyewitnesses were murdered.
Same old tired, paranoid, idiotic and uninformed rehash of conspiracy nonsense. This case has been investigated and dissected ENDLESSLY for 44 years and nothing has altered the Warren Commission's basic conclusion: LHO did it, alone.
It'll be many years from now before the real findings are released to the public. By then, all the principals and many witnesses will be dead. So much for justice - not that JFK's memory has had much of it in recent years. (Today, he's better known for his womanizing than his policies, which had great potential.)
Exactly!! How the HELL would they know all of that info when it had JUST happened!!! Unbelievable. No doubt that this was the first step in covering up the real truth if you ask me.
Yeah, Cronkite was broadcasting less than an hour of the shots were fired and used the word "assassin" in the singular. Didn't hold it open for even a sentence before going with the lone gunman story.
More than one witness saw Oswald in the window with the rifle and told a police officer who then issed an APB with Oswald's general description leading to the death of Officer Tippet.
Oh, thanks, like I really believe that. Man, you solved the whole thing for me with one post. Now I can help others understand that it was perfectly reasonable to go after just one person and not suspect accomplices.
The Republicans killed JFK, Martin Luther King and Robert Kennedy (and who knows how many others)..This criminal party will stop at nothing to keep power...Fascism isn't coming to America ..Its already here and its name is Republican..
Yeah, looking at the evidence I see LBJ being more involved. Republicans are no more fascist than Democrats, infact war for profit is a Democratic party platform. Commis are left also making them into the liberal/democrat catagory, get your politics straight.. you are 30 so learn more plz.
Oswald a lefist marxist killed Kennedy, Mlk was kileed by another lousy democrat, and Rfk was killed by some arab terrorist who the libs love these days.....
Apparently the word 'Assassin' is derived from the word 'Hashishin' meaning hash eater, which is what an 11th Century Ismaili sect would practice before they committed acts of murder
In November 1963, CBS News did not have its cameras turned on in their newsroom in the event Walter Cronkite had to deliver an emergency bulletin during the day- after this event, they were. That's why the first bulletin [at 1:40pm(et)] only featured a "CBS News Bulletin" slide. By the time the camera was "warmed up" around 2pm, Cronkite was on the air in the newsroom, sans jacket. He'll wear one around 3:30, with the "official" CBS microphone in front of him.....
"fanning out into the crowd looking for the assassin."
How could anyone hear that and not know the outcome? Could be an honest mistake, but at that level of journalism and on that type of story is it more likely he made a verbal error or subconsciously said what he already knew?
Historically an "assassin" is one who attempts to murder, by surprise, a political leader. It is a name derived from members of an anti-Christian Muslim sect whose members killed crusaders.
The term does not necessarily mean the assassin was successful in killing the intended target -- although that's how most public-school educated Americans would understand it today.
You think because you learn a little history from a video game you have a clue about proper usage? Go check any prominant Online dictionary and you will see the majority state the definition as "a murderer, esp. one who kills a politically prominent person for fanatical or monetary reasons." No ATTEMPT present.
Furthermore, its etymological usage was a mere denotation of membership to a group, no different than todays Bloods or Crips, however that usage hasn't been popular since the time that group existed, at least two or three Centuries. I don't see how I would be in need of a dictionary when the prominant and dominant usage is in my favor, and quite common sensically so. You may want to heed your own advice, or at least direct it towards other delusio-intellectuals such as yourself.
Ancestralyuba, you are correct. See my note below on using the Reagan assassination attempt as a parallel study. Numerous reporters refer to Hinkley as the "assassin."
Oswald did it!! Enough already...

Back then, the news networks only issued "bulletins" or "breaking news" if there was something important going on. Nowadays however, the networks will run the "Breaking News" headline if a cat gets stuck up a tree.
Journalism has become a morally repugnant industry.

"The secret service men, very well trained in their job"?? Yeah, right... I wonder how the medias knew everything about who the killer was, what he looked like and what rifle he had used only minutes after the shooting when Oswald hadn't even been arrested yet. This story is so full of shit.
zodyce 3 years ago
Retard, it was a very vague description of Oswald, and they also had recovered the rifle. Damn you're dumb!
sudaev 3 years ago
@sudaev you're the retard for believing it.
karyn27 1 year ago
@karyn27 - I actually am aware of the details and timeline of this case, unlike you...
The police in fact only had a general description of the suspect. You can't dispute that.
The police in fact recovered the rifle, and news photographers took photos of them bringing it out. I suppose the Dallas police detectives are part of the conspiracy too, right? Everyone is in on this massive conspiracy to kill the President, lol. Unbelievable.
sudaev 1 year ago
@sudaev How do you know I'm not aware of it? I've read and watched enough to have a good idea; I'm very interested in the case. It could have easily been planted. It's not conspiracy it's just plain old fact. He was a Kennedy and obvious his brother got done in too. Have you seen the documentary when they analysed all the film, photos, directions etc? Pretty much nails it in my mind...and most others who've commented on here by the looks of things.
karyn27 1 year ago
@karyn27 - Uh, the problem is that there is no reason to believe the rifle was planted. You waste half a paragraph telling us that theoretically it could have been planted....But It was Oswald's rifle, and there are photos showing him holding it! He in fact bought it using his alias!
See, you're claiming that Oswald didn't even do it....LOL! He splits from the depository right after someone was shooting HIS RIFLE upstairs.
And who would have planted it? Dallas PD is in on this too?
sudaev 1 year ago

It'll be many years from now before the real findings are released to the public. By then, all the principals and many witnesses will be dead.

Theobrothers 4 years ago
Brother, you need a dictionary.
Historically an "assassin" is one who attempts to murder, by surprise, a political leader. It is a name derived from members of an anti-Christian Muslim sect whose members killed crusaders.
The term does not necessarily mean the assassin was successful in killing the intended target -- although that's how most public-school educated Americans would understand it today.
ancestralyuba 4 years ago 2
You think because you learn a little history from a video game you have a clue about proper usage? Go check any prominant Online dictionary and you will see the majority state the definition as "a murderer, esp. one who kills a politically prominent person for fanatical or monetary reasons." No ATTEMPT present.
Theobrothers 4 years ago
Furthermore, its etymological usage was a mere denotation of membership to a group, no different than todays Bloods or Crips, however that usage hasn't been popular since the time that group existed, at least two or three Centuries. I don't see how I would be in need of a dictionary when the prominant and dominant usage is in my favor, and quite common sensically so. You may want to heed your own advice, or at least direct it towards other delusio-intellectuals such as yourself.

Uh. They weren't available in 1963. Try Webster's annotated or the Oxford English. You'll have to read through to about definition #10.
