  • Great vid this, Sean is the biggest influence on my playing and is up there with the greats as far as I'm concerned.

  • just in 1.04 the video loading stops here :(

  • Man I love this man.

  • ive long out grown metal...and went onto other forms of music...but i still come back to listen to sean....and im a guitar player

  • Wich rides is he using on the video??

  • Fuck. This is incredible! he must be some kind of machine.

  • NEEDS MORE DRUM CAM

  • 1:29 :o

  • @tokarev445 this is correct but ALSO he is leading with his left. So there's double kick and the hats are coming down on the ON beat. So he's playing double kick basically left-handed...which is just mind boggling

  • @eurologic I read he puts his foot on both the hi hat pedal and left bass drum pedal making it all possible.

  • no words can describe the way to play that drums...it seems it is taking to me. See you in Italy the 10th december...

  • One thin I noticed he's only kicking the has with one foot I mean if that itself isn't incredible island what is.....Sean reinert is probably one of the best drummer's every born

  • @tokarev445 No. His left foot is on the high hat pedal and the bass drum pedal.

  • @glacier2win gonna agree, i tried that out after watching this video and decided that's way easier than trying to do rapid-fire 16th's on the right foot while doing 8ths on the left (even though that method is possible too...it just gives me leg cramps)...just get comfortable with leading off on the left foot and you're good to go.

  • I love Dream Theater, Tool, and Porcupine Tree, but Sean Reinert is just absolutely insane. On another level.

  • I was thinking for a while that Dream Theater would have hired him to do the drum recordings for their newest album.

  • 2 people were scared by Human as children

  • Can someone explain to a non-drummer how he can kick double bass while kicking the hi hat?

  • @ecc4v5 to me it almost looks like he's doing the "double bass" with just one pedal during those parts, which is possible but you gotta be pretty well conditioned to pull it off =D

  • @ecc4v5 He's leading with his left, and using his left foot to strike both the bass and hi-hat pedals at the same time, and alternating his left and right foot.

  • @ecc4v5 hes playing the left bass drum pedal with his heel and he has his foot angled to the left so his toes are playing the hi hat

  • 1:59 fill WTF what he just did!!??

  • @digitalmadnes if you watch his foot he is hitting the bass in between every tom tom hit lol but it does seem like hes doing that one handed at first

  • @digitalmadnes im preety sure hes just doing singles on the first tom rlrl and then he moves just his right hand to the next tom and plays the rest between his right hand and right foot then finishes with the floor tom...if that helps

  • Wait is this actually Sean Reinert?

How did you get this video?

  • @CydoniaKnight1 By being the man himself.

  • @ScreamxBloodyxGore Ah.

    My bad :P

  • Comment removed

  • You know, I love the drumming on old Cynic stuff, way back to the '91 demo where his parts are just insane. But Reinert has only gotten better over time. His style, balance, and maturity are exactly what the music calls for. Truly an artist.

  • dat left foot

  • @startDaemons Don't forget his right foot.

  • Portnoy is good, Mangini is good, Christy is good... ... . But SEAN is not a mortal man...:) However thanks, mate, for uploading this video... :)

  • @vansmunin Fuckin' Agree with you! Reinert isn't human...

  • probably my favourite metal drummer of all time. take notes, mike portnoy

  • it's actually not that hard to do if position the pedals correctly.

  • He...he did the bass...with one...foot...at 1:30...

    This man...is the drum king

  • Sean Reinert is amazing, he's like Jazz meets Prog Metal meets GOD.

  • Why the fuck would you dislike this?

  • @Applehurler The only way I see a person disliking this video is if said person doesn't understand anything about drumming.

  • @Applehurler Cuz Its too complicated for some brains. And then well They reject it.... Its sad but True.

  • @migthefig oh look another person who thinks hes intellectually superior to the average person because he listens to complex music. nice to meet you

  • @todoz11 Felt attacked there ? Awwwe did I hurt your feelings?

  • @migthefig are you retarded? by watching this video I've pretty much demonstrated that I'm part of the minority who listens to the same kind of music you listen to, i.e., the group you're trying to portray as superior. because I'm not completely horrible at comprehending messages, it's safe to assume that I was well aware of the fact that you implied that people like me are superior to the masses.

I'm saying this isn't true, you'd have to be legitimately retarded not to understand that, faggot.

  • @todoz11 Ahaha you need help.

  • @migthefig lol you get proven wrong and tell me i need help.

hey man, what's it like to be autistic?

  • One of my favorites, mostly due to Deaths "Human." Very Vinnie Colaiuta. Not a fan of the StarSearch sounding toms, but his cymbals sound awesome. Btw, hes clearly playing double kick and foot on the hat leading with his left. Drop clutch and single foot ability is not a factor as thought by other posters.

  • such flow.

  • @purple1ris No, it's a drop clutch, or as Tama calls it, Cobra Clutch. It's just a simple tool so when you play without double bass, you can open / close the hi hat, and when you're using double bass you just press the pedal on the clutch and it stays closed. Most drop clutches are just a simple lever-type thing on the hi hat where the top one simply drops onto the bottom one, but Tama made one where you can control how far the hi hat drops and it's foot operated.

  • this setup is soo weird. but i'm diggin the hhx cymbals and how close together it all is

  • We met the band in Bilbao in an intimal show, and all very kind, we had the privilege that Sean explained to us the trick with his own pedals.

I think that thinking more of the techical astonishment, the best thing is the beautiness of that latin groove he creates for this song with those double hat beats... for the moment I can do some thing with this technique but being creative and solvent is much more difficult than merely showing off.

    Thanks again Sean

  • the most underrated drummer of all time

  • What a great latin beat... so intoxicating....

  • im am a drummer for years and after seen this master i feel like an assole this guy is awsome sean reinert rules

  • bad ass!

  • Wow that guy's insane

  • awesome..

  • You guys are gonna hate me for this but this man right here makes Danny carey look like Zac Efron or something. With all due respect to the great Mr. carey

  • @ksbg247

Danny Carey has not got the chops to match this guy. but he is probably the better all-round drummer.

  • @DontLikeBandsIHate I do not get why people think this guy is so good and comparing him to D. Carey? I am no big Carey fan but this guy could not touch carey. But lets get real Carey is not all that great in the scope of great drummers. Portnoy, Rabb, Jo Mayer, & Thomas Pridgen would make this fella look like he is an infant sitting behind a drumset.

  • @ConsumedByDrums

are you serious? carey has not got the same natural ability as this guy, but he has got a better song-writting style. then again, everything reinert writes takes talent, whereas carey's drumming is easy. Portnoy has years on reinert (and he's worthless now he's out of all his bands), Rabb is impressive and so is mayer (but donati is better) and who the fuck is pridgen?

  • @DontLikeBandsIHate Donati is different than mayer, and mayers technique is unmatched by most....

and holy fuck dude you dont know who thomas pridgen is? check him out right now and be fuckin amazing, honestly he is literally the most interesting drummer to watch. listen to the song wax simulacra by the mars volta and tell me that intro isnt impossible on the drums, only he can do it with that feeling. that album "Bedlam in Goliath" is THE BEST DRUMMING on an album ever.

  • @DontLikeBandsIHate really tho man if you're a drummer you owe it to yourself to do it.

  • @ConsumedByDrums

    thomas pridgen is average.

i kid, i kid. but honestly, hes pretty good yes, but in terms of originality, hes no better than 90% of other rock/fushion drummers. i respect him, but i prefer the greats (buddy rich, neil peart, etc), and those who can do anything insane, like polyrythmic shuffles. but pridgen just adds metal-like rolls with a fushion beat backbone, on a standard kit. impressive yes, talent no. thats just my opinion. then again, i listen to death metal ;-)

  • @DontLikeBandsIHate Hmm well you have heard of Tony Royster jr right?

  • @ConsumedByDrums

he was better when he was younger. but hes adds great parts in his hip-hop parts. he drums for jay-z right?

  • @DontLikeBandsIHate Blah that leaves a bad taste in my mouth if he really drums for jay-z. Dude i cannot find a Virgil Donati video of him doing clean rolls on the upper toms he has, you know the ones above his head. wtf.

  • @ConsumedByDrums

yeah, those are useless toms, just for show. saw him play live once in sydney AUS a little while back, i dont recall a hit on those drums at all. oh well.

  • This fuckin drummer is sick! cynic the best :D

  • how do you do that? lol so beast and groovy

  • cannot stop listen this music...... rithm amazing, riff fabulous and great vocals and lyrics...... it's like drug addiction :) I only want more

  • @ScottGrimmel get Cynic Focus and hear all of the good songs

  • Nothing special here.

The art of drumming is lost on Mr. Reinert.

  • Comment removed

  • @pooperscoopr69

O, rly? And you're Yoda of Drums, I assume?

  • Man those toms have a great tone.

  • That is one hell of an awesome drummer playing on one hell of an awesome drum kit playing the drums to one hell of an awesome song by one hell of an awesome band.

  • Must make more.

  • I love it!!

  • That's really great! His groove is amazing. Last 17 years he is my favorite drummer

  • I wish I had the technical preciseness of cynic. They're so good I hate them, but I respect them so damn much

  • @josedonpablo holy shit you're right

  • @josedonpablo i guess anybody with half a brain would notice that his right foot is only playing 8ths. he's obviously stepping at the hi-hat and bass drum pedals at the same time with his left foot

  • These drum cam vids are addicting! Where did you find these? It'd be awesome to find cams for other songs on the album!

  • @drumninmer34 Oh and btw, Sean Reinert is fucking incredible.

  • wow :)

  • Thank god for Sean Reinert...

  • teh pwn

  • @cyezak

    Obvious troll is obvious.

  • Comment removed

  • really good work.

  • Man you are an amazing drummer, love Cynic!

  • This vid and the one for Adam's Murmur are possibly my fave uploads anywhere on Youtube.

Are there any more vids from this recording session available? I just can't get enough of watching them!

    Thanks :)

  • on the bottom right, just to the right of the floor tom, is that another set of hi-hats? lol, thats a little interesting...

  • It's fascinating how difficult it must be to play the drums like sean reinert.

  • 147 likes 0 dislikes explains everything.

  • I see him playing the straight notes incl hihats with his left and the offbeats with his right foot.

    Quite interesting.. ;)

  • LOL JT HE'S PLAYING THE HI HAT AND DOUBLE BASS AT THE SAME TIEM LLOLOLOLOLOLOLOL~~~!!@#!@#

  • You're God

  • The camera's frame rate is a wee bit slow for Reinert's speed.... :(

  • what a great drummer hes amazing at many differnent genres anyone know what tom heads he uses?

  • @bigbaconburger17 snare remo head and for toms evans drum heads

  • alternating single's between the 12" and kick before the bridge, super sick

  • he plays his hi hat with his left foot and his left bass pedal with his dick obvioulsy

  • @poryon2 so you are a supporter of the theory that the your dick grows as you get better on the drums?

  • @poryon2 I have just almost died of laughing:D

  • Comment removed

  • @poryon2 but you´re right

  • great sound quality makes this pure win, please upload more, ty

  • So tasteful!

  • no words just.... WOW

  • Damn those toms are small... 8, 10, 12, 14. But they sound hella good and it shows drummers that play hugeass setups that small drums rock just as much.

  • GREAT SHIT !

THE HIT HAT IS SO LOW !

  • he has it Inverted so his Bass pedal is far left and hi hat is on the inside they are about 1/2 inch from each other and the action is created by riding both pedals with his left foot in the middle causing the simultaniuos action.

  • he plays with his heart....

  • Has anyone worked out the sticking pattern he uses for the snare/tom section? Would be great to know.

  • absolutely brilliant!!!

    this video is a bliss!!!

  • @lazdrms Uhhh...Cynic's great, but they have two albums, lets wait a bit before we talk about them and Death in the same sentence...please?

  • Im not a drummer, somebody please explain me how the fuck he uses the hi hat and double pedal at same time?

Seems like its all connected, left pedal hits are for the hi hat and drum ?

  • @23igna Leading with the left foot, ball of foot on the hihat pedal, heel on the kick pedal, so the double bass plays in 16ths but the hihat remains in 8ths.

  • Comment removed

  • @ButAWaveTo Is it possible to play both pedals with ball of the foot?

  • @ButAWaveTo Hes leading with his right foot. I also believe after talking to, seeing, and watching sean for many years he splits his left foot down the middle of both pedals,(one of the benefits of only having one bass drum is you don't have to do that pain in the ass heel-toe crap)What I do when I double pedal on my left foot is depress the hihat and bass pedal at the same time until the bass beater hits the bass drum head, then tighten it up, that way both strokes start and end simultaneously

  • @ButAWaveTo Akira Jimbo has been doing that for Years

  • @ButAWaveTo How this technique is called?

  • @ButAWaveTo what kind of cymbals is he using?

  • @jesse17ful

I know a most of them are hand-hammered Sabians, but I don't know about the rest.

  • @CakeDestroyer kool thanks

    i might by them

  • @jesse17ful

Actally, they list them all at the sabian website, so I'd check that out.

  • @ButAWaveTo a lot of great drummers can do more with one bass pedal then most can do with two. Apparently Sean is just that bad ass that he can use the heel toe method with one pedal while his other foot is on the hihat. What should be mentioned to is that he is also able to get the hihat sizzles with out hitting the cymbal with a stick. That also takes some practice to get down

  • @ButAWaveTo Yeah, and it's tough as heck to get right. ;)

  • @23igna yep its a clutch...i think.....????

  • @23igna dude he plays both pedals with the same foot, very easy if you practice

  • @23igna i assumed it was pure magic. these guys are on another level.

  • @23igna . I am not a drummer also, but it took me a while to figure it out. Hihat pedal and left bassdrum pedal are sittuated pretty close to each other so Sean just triggers both pedals with one, left foot.

  • @23igna right foot plays right beater of the double bass drum. left foot plays at same time hi-hat pedal and left beater of the double bass pedal..... not really difficult the double drumming. but feeling with his hands it´s really amazing.

  • @23igna Dude this guy is a God drummer I used to go see them rehearse every night when they lived in Miami I dont even ask i just enjoy his talent

  • @23igna Dude this guy is a God drummer I used to go see them rehearse every night when they lived in Miami I dont even ask i just enjoy his talent but yeah I think he's got em linked somhow

  • @23igna just type in Gene Hoglan -drum solo . He,ll show you

  • @pcrvg0808

yep I know Gene, he's a beast.. I think the best Drummer from death, he done the best job

  • @23igna he has 3 legs :)

  • spread your legs and feet vertical position..awesome drummer! former Aghora band.

  • @23igna mosy of the parts where you think he's using double kicker, he's not

  • man .... he is soooo freaking good. i always have to think about him when some kiddie is trying to tell the web that travis barker is the best drummer ever :D

  • Reinert is metal drumming for real musicians.

  • @BassRocker617 He's lucky he plays in a band like Cynic...for a band that's not as "progy" he'd be totally out of place...his style compliments the band well.

  • @HurricaneTBag not really man, he did pretty well with Death.

  • @Romencer17 For the time Death was a pretty progressive band...Father Chuck was a progressive enough musician to use his talents fully.

  • This is beautiful..he is perfect, one of the greatest drummer ever in my opinion! This is also one of the best Cynic song!

  • they are my gods

  • i jizzed

  • awesome dude!!!

  • InHuman

  • How did you get this footage?

  • Sean I have been so inspired by you since I first heard Cynic's 1991 Demo and Death Human. What a Year for Metal! I was 15 and already playing drums for 7 years. You my friend opened my eyes to the possibilities and raised the bar by 700%.

    God Bless You Man!

  • True musical beauty. The elegance is awesome, some technical-monster like Portnoy et al. could never even com close to this feeling and touch, even though he has learned all there is to learn about musical theory.

Somehow the good ones doesn't seem to need monster kits to make it sound good. Wonder how the metal scene would look without Hoglan & Reinert

  • sean is such a super, down to earth person. let me have a conversation with him

one of the best (especially when he busts out the timpani mallets for snare roll at the end)

in my top 3 favorite drummers along with brann dailor and blake richardson. no particular order, just for me they all compliment each other very well so I like the style I have developed by listening to these guys.

  • Awesome!!!!!!!

  • Probably my favourite drummer ever. So much finesse.

  • One of my favorite songs, and I love to see the drummer playing it like this.

Now I would like to see some Gene Hoglan doing Symbolic or 1,000 eyes!

  • sounds great, awkward hi hat place though.

  • @THEPANTSWEREDEAD - Regarding Hi-Hat placement --you get used to anything if you do it enough. I have remote hats in the middle of my kit with a ride either side.... Awkward for two-handed hat-work at first but now.....hats to the side? FORGET THAT! Experiment Dude...

  • This is a great drum version. He killed it. Sycn"d up with the solo at the end, like the reunion, incredible drummer. Incredible guitarist, incredible band. Cant wait to hear the EP. You know itll be good. No pressure Just confidence. Listen to the albums. It's always a good journey. Cheers Cynic.

  • Thank You for uploading this just wish it was more FPS to show more depth.

  • He plays double pedal and hi-hat in the same time. it's his patern! :D

  • THE GREAT!

  • omg he does double bass with one foot at 2.08?

  • hes got a double pedal hiding somewhere in there

  • Nope, he has the left pedal of his doble pedal placed at the left of the hihat pedal, so he can play both pedals at the same time.

  • @Tiobatero yeah that or he has a REMOTE HH pedal to the left of his double pedal...

  • @ elkan0: I doubt it man... if you pay attention to the close shots of Sean's drum kit in the Norway concert, you can notice that his Iron Cobra is placed at the left side of his hi hat. Greetings!

  • @Tiobatero yup you guys are totally right, I'm just coming back from seeing Cynic live here in Mexico City, needles to say it was beyond amazing!
