I don't know where the Krav practitioners in this video, and the first one, learned their technique but the way we train Krav in Las Vegas is much closer to what Richard demonstrates and I am sure it's not because of him, we do it right because it makes sense. If your Krav school isn't like this go find a better one or train with this guy!
There is an old adage, "You fight the way you train". This guy drives home that point here. One of my problems with far too many commercial schools is that they give someone a false sense of security, when in reality they are setting them up to get hurt. I have never heard of this guy, but he sounds like he would be a worthwhile instructor. With respect.
All Im going to say is 38 yrs in arts Combat Jujutsu, mil and Law enf and bar security background and countless real life encounters with and without weapons, if you wrap your arm around an attackers arm while hes holding a knife like that you are dead. Does he have a sound advice about hip etc yes most def, do I agree with the way he dealt with the knife um no. Enough said try it for yourself use a shock knife or a marker on a white shirt and you'll see my point literally.
this wont work because as the defender does a high block to the knife, the attacker just has to follow through by lowering his knife hand down and slash at the defenders stomach. after that its grease and blood that will follow.
and of course you're speaking from experience with the shredder in real life fights right? It's worked for me and countless others, like I said, no need to impose your failures onto others.
He wasn't demonstrating "how to", he was demonstrating "how NOT to". At no point in this video does he show what his response would be, so I don't see your point, but I do agree with you: what you see in this video won't work... what he does teach does work (and yes they do full-force training with knives and markers etc...that's the MAIN way they train)
Ok so then my point would being what is the point in showing what not to do on a video when in the same time frame you can show what to do. NM I think my point has been made, but ty for your reply.
This is a 2 min clip from an over 5 hour seminar, unless you were there or have trained with Rich personally before, your opinions are based on this and maybe a few other 2 min clips... not much to stand on. Go to a seminar or pick up some of his materials then come back and offer something of value, even if it disagrees with what others may think but at the very least, inform yourself first.
"the point is that this "he does A, so I do B" approach is bullshit...you apply general theories of retaliation to a fluid, dynamic, real-life situation"
That's what my Sifu always says I'm just teaching you how to talk you decide what you are going to say...
look, i respect wing chun as probably the most effective form of kung fu but in terms of street fighting and effectiveness, Richs stuff (fancy, old-sounding name but the system is new) is something you can learn and apply in a day...not 3-20 years of training. What your Sifu teaches you is still set patterns of response...just look at what Bruce Lee has to say about Wing Chun and he was a red sash! People from TMA systems have too much invested in their art to see its limitations. Get it?
OK, so maybe I don't know about wing chun as much... the reason for this is that I'm not a complete douche who trusts in an art that will fail when the shit hits the fan (i.e. I don't do wing chun). Good luck when someone next tries to stab you - remember: stay relaxed, that way your bullshit will work :)
I have trained with live blades k thanks bye... Like the guy below says try training with like a magnum marker and a white shirt and see what happens.... Oh and if you don't think staying calm, focused, and unemotional are very important... PLAY IT COOL!
ok, are you reading what i'm writing or just making shit up as you go along...? He is not teaching technique, he is critiquing someone elses technique... Wing Chun is great if you CAN stay calm, so how about i come over and try to stab you and you "stay calm"... k? i have trained with live blades too so STFU, k, thanks, bye
the point is that this "he does A, so I do B" approach is bullshit...you apply general theories of retaliation to a fluid, dynamic, real-life situation, and yes i have seen him fight in person (in training, mind you) and he absouloutley annihilated a guy that had been training MA for 10+ years in a full-force scenario...as for the toes, what would you have him do? He needs to move, not stand in one spot and parry like wing chun
I have studied wing chun for many years and hip rotation and foot work are a huge emphasis in all of our training so I'm not sure what point you are trying to make... He says he through him so far with a two inch punch because of hip rotation.

Very Wing Chung ish.... You should focus more on foot work.
