a lover i made too much room for almost run off wit all of my stuff & i didnt know i’d give it up so quick & the one runnin wit it don’t know he got it & i’m shoutin this is mine & he dont know he got it. time to get my stuff back <3
I give it to Loretta Divine but both are legends Its just Loretta speaks with so much power that it gives me chills and she spoke as if it wasn't a poem but it was her speaking of herself. but i do like tyler perrys version better but till love miss Alfre Woodard and Lynn Whitfield
@westq2 your right simple minded nigger bullshit. Please dont lable for colored girls.Because I dont want peopleto think I'm simple like this movie,I think I'll start denying the black part of me.dumb, depressing loud mouth .gossipping, mean ghetto bitches what man wants that? Not even a bm.I never see ww behaving so foolishly, and always worried about some good for nothing man.sad.classy bw ,dont spend your money on this depressing crap.maybe tyler grew up around ghetto bitches.
I love this version and enjoyed tylers version and I'm a black man. DOnt really understand this whole "demonizing black men" thing everybody talking about because I didnt feel it did that at all. But as my grandma use to say "a hit dog shole will holla"...
@prettiyungthang88 She is talking about herself. In short, she'd gotten so caught up in her guy that she almost let him get away with "her". She forgot who she was inside the relationship. Towards the end the poem she "gets herself back" but allows herself to let him in a little. That's my loose interpretation.
I know Its called For Colored Girls, but color is not only Black or White. I know the actors are all black, but I see past the color. I see so many different women in these characters. And I don't think it makes Black men evil. Not all the men were evil in the movie. The cop was a good man. A lot of it was that some women are self-destructive. Some of it was a man, not a black man, just a man. I didn't see the gay husband representing black me at all. This is just life.
@SamaraiMonster Not at all. If you saw the Tyler Perry version of this, that's a whole 'nuther story. I love black men. Yall are incredible.
We, men and women, all have our strong points and not so strong points. Our goal in this life is to coexist, understand, and appreciate each other for our differences instead of trying to change one another.
@SamaraiMonster I don't know why you would feel bad to be a black man. These women were suffering because of the men they chose and the focus was on their trials let us not forget that these men had their own issues. They struggled with feelings of inadequacy and low self-esteem which led them to hurt those who cared the most for them so that they could feel empowered. Many of us, both men and women of all colors share the same experiences. Hopefully we got a chance to look at the other side.
@SamaraiMonster no, the movie is just a pile of shit and it's a make you feel bad movie.Maybe tyler wants to turn men off to women,or women off to men that way more men for himself.lol
Wow. Black men can never get a break. This is the only kind of stuff put out by Hollywood. When will black me be represented in film in a complex and myriad of ways , not through the eyes of certain black woman and white people.
Alfre Woodard, she did an awesome job on this peom. She is so gifted and talented. I truely love this poem. Yes its time for me to get my stuff back too.
@kaliyuta OH excuse me?! did you know Shakespeare?! Were ya'll buddies?!....LOOK if you didnt like it just say YOU didnt like it....don't bring a dead man's opinion into this. If you didnt know them, then you don't know how they'd feel about it
I'm glad yall are enjoying the posts!!! Thank you for the feedback. If you are looking for a place to purchase, I'm almost certain you can purchase it from Amazon.com

@liquidstone14 This version is lovely, but Tyler Perry's version is much more personable and relatable in a modern 2010 setting of life because of the tone of the words Loretta Divine utters and the mood that is set. You can deeply feel it not just hear that somebody almost walked off with ALL her stuff.

@alansjf33 I understand your point of view. The original version of "For Colored Girls" was made years ago, 1982 circa I believe.
As a filmmaker, one of my goals is to make films that portray black men in a positive light.
