This is hacking but not "real Hacking". Good videos for newbies and whatnot. backtrack is a good OS for hackers that like full control over a system and the Backtrack itself. Try something that others can't do and than you might be a good hacker. other than that.. not very good hacking but good show...
guys this is bactrack linux it is based on linux that;s why it look like linux and you can find the password with ophcrack or with batcktrack linux 3 or4 with rainbow crack it is very easy but in ophcrack you can only crack sam encryption no md5 but in backtrack 3 or 4 you can crack any encryptio with their page ant in bactrack 3 or 4 you are like super user and youy can delete anything and i mean anything guy keep up you are good.
when i reboot into windows vista, i invoke the utility manager by pressing "windows key" and "U" and the command line appears but it disappears suddenly. Then, i invoke the command line again and it appears and disappears again....what's wrong?
Too bad it is only usefull if you have physical contact with the victim machine and if the owner isn't bright enouth to disable CD/USB boot and put a password on the bios configuration.
Haha that's awesome! By the way this is a hack retards, hacking is not just gaining access to networks... It's just general circumventing limitations and thinking of new ways to solve problems, whatever the problem may be.
OK 4 those of u that cant read the video: While In Backtrack: Open up Konsole: cd /mnt ls cd sda1 cd Windows/ cd System32/ mv Utilman.exe Utilman.old cp cmd.exe Utilman.exe reboot In Vista: At login screen, press "windows key+U" cmd shuld come out navigate to system32 dir type "explorer"
another way for privilege escalation is to crack lsass.exe
by adding code to popup a cmd shell u can drop this in the targeted system via live cd so every time the computer starts and ask for password the shell will poped :)
This may be a hack that requires no real hardcore knowledge or skill, but it's a hack nonetheless. Of course, gaining root access on a remote FreeBSD server that is tightly sown up is a lot more complicated. This, however, shows that remote hacks need to be secured just as much as physical hacks when developing an OS.
Securing your filesystem for physical access is freakin' hard though. Wouldn't even know where to begin :P
Nice vid, keep it up. Would like to see more epic hacks though ;)
idc what u other people say.this was a good vid, it may be some easy stuff but for people who r not technically inclined this might help with their problem of getting locked out .
The guy had a physical access to machine. Here, he used that kind of access to insert his CD (or USB drive) and BOOT from it. The real hacking assumes to get some level of control on a REMOTE computer(s) through the network (wired or wireless), and is usually posibble throgh exploiting some bugs in the services running, or exploiting some users ignorance on self protection (no firewall or not very well configured, etc). But this kind of hacking assumes much more knowledge then shown on this video
Not only did he run the command prompt and start explorer, he started it as SYSTEM, you can do the same on XP by starting a command prompt, killing the explorer process then running "at %time% start explorer.exe". This should work on Vista too, therefore removing the need for a Linux LiveCD!
What he is doing is just mounting an inactive windows partition and then replacing important windows executable with another one (copying over it with same file-name). This can be done with every Linux, not only BackTrack. So this is not a hack, this assumes physical access to machine, and "brutally" changing it's system file. This is not Vista specific, the similar kind of "hacking" can be done on an inactive Linux partition, or any other OS, where you mess by REPLACING it's system files.
When did BT3 come out of beta? Also, can you do this only in BackTrack, or could you use any live CD, like INSERT for example, and do you just need the terminal, or is there a specific tool?

net user administrator * ... or net user "username" * change the password of the user .
you can also copy the SAM file and the Systemkey file to run a bruteforce attack against it with John the Ripper.... also a good way of doin it :)

For XP just copy it over sethc.exe
This will start up with sticky keys, alt+shift+numlock, or alt+shift+prntscrn

superbarnie 2 years ago
Not exactly. When hacking, you don't necessarily have to steal information. It also includes gaining access to a place your not supposed to be.
smiles86 2 years ago
yeah... but what would be the point of gaining access if you didn't want to steal information... unless you wanted to plant something...

And why do you need to do that you can just replace the account file with a one with admin as default ... and login.
