Well it's not really strange when you take into consider that Russia and Germany were on good diplomatic terms until 1941. There was a "non aggression pact" until then. But above all, Hitler was a madman; he believed he could be victorious in Russia before winter. The previous success of the German army when it came to advancing in enemy territory made him underestimate the tenaciousness with which the Russians defended their country.

The Ak47 was inspired by the STG44, but it is not a total copy. mikhail kalashnikov made the AK47 as an upgrade to the STG44, so it had a lot of original ideas behind it.But the firearm is build under the same concept

@tikkarityyppi the design is pretty much the same(copied) but the fire mechanism of the AK-47 is completly different but the losses german soldiers equipped with the StG44 inflicted on russian (or allied) forces were the flash point for the russians to build something equal and the AK-47 is the result

Considering the fact that the MG-42 and the M60 utilize entirely different internal mechanisms I would love to know how one evolved from the other.

The MG-42 is a recoil operated, roller locked firing mechanism whereas the M60 is an open-bolt, gas-operated design.

There is absolutely nothing similar between them.

Other than they are both belt fed.

The concept was what was used. A belt fed machinegun that is easy to carry, and can support troops and single units. The M60 was born because the Americans saw the succes of weapons like the MG42. One of the copied features from the MG42 that was put on the M60 is the top that rest on the ammunition, the metal plate you open to put in the belt of ammunition (I don´t know the English word for this part).

I think it was because it ultimately was not an influential weapon in the war. While quite a few were made and issued, it was not enough to significanty replace the kar 98k in service or affect German conduct of war. It was just not very relevant to the German arsenal. Also remember that these programs are only 45 minutes long, they need to keep 15 minutes open for commercials. So they leave out a lot of guns which were very important but not as important as the ones listed.

there is a enemy troop 600 meters away...do you have a better chance of hitting them with the m1 or a shity machine gun? im talking about one shot only.

I lose patience with the opening monologue. Granted the Russians had the area to retreat and resupply and the Germans had fewer soldiers yet caused greater casualties.
