The mukkuri is a tension Jews-harp of the Ainu people of Hokkaido
Island in Northern Japan. Mukkuri were played by women long time
ago and are quite difficult to sound due to their very thick tongue.
The Ainu are considered indigenous to Hokkaido, yet there are
suggestions that they are related to peoples in both Siberia and
western Canada, yet this instrument cannot be found in the latter.
Mukkuri are made from wood.
