well in my opinion this vid also shows many of the problems with using mesh deform too! Its great for the abs so they won't crease when doing a situp but look at how hugely the bideps get distorted when they bend = bad, worse than if you just use an armature. to get around this put the mesh equally spaced around the arm - see the problem is that the deform mesh is closer to the inside of the bicep than the outside of it so it distorts it a lot more.

The mesh deform tool is brilliant in my opinion, especially with really high poly models, it makes a difference.
