  • A hurricane post pone the game, they (UCLA). They made up the game to have an extra win on the record, they thought this was going to be an easy win! This game cost them their shot at the tittle.

  • Fresh off the beatdown sarecuse gave us,nothing to lose, make up game from september.Edgerrin james was draging bitch's!Santana moss,Naghjah davenport,Andre king,Mondrell fulcher!Edge had 300 yrds and we stormed the field afterward!!Good game start to finish!!

  • eddgeren james killed us in that game

  • 299 yards...still a miami record.

  • I was at that game, UCLA was going to go to the NCG that year if we didn't beat them. Sucked to be a Bruin fan, they've been terrible ever since.

  • i was heart broken that day. but we didnt deserve to go to the national championship that year. our defense sucked ass. but if we were going to lose a game to anybody im glad it was to miami, much respect to the canes.

  • what was miami's record that year?

  • 9-3

  • I watched that entire game, for obvious reasons, being an FSU fan. To the UCLA fans, that fumble was a bad call, but in all honesty Miami just outplayed you. I know it was a very close game, but to me UM just looked like the better team.

  • His knee was down, IT WAS NOT A FUMBLE!!! I'm just a little bitter. Stupid ref

  • dude, us as canes fans have been fucked over by refs plenty of times... cough cough !! 2002 !!

  • i dont think ucla was really never the same after this game.

  • I was thinking the same thing, in retrospect.

  • @myths4

That's the truth, they've had one good team (2005) ever since the 1998 season. I found it ironic that UCLA went 0-2 to being the 1997 season and then went 10-0 to finish it. Then do the exact opposite of 1998. They were a fun team to watch those years.

  • This game symbolized the end of the fluke UCLA 1990s run... even the last few Miami teams would kill UCLA, look at FSU in the Emerald Bowl haha

  • the best part of this game, other than the game itself, was that Miami did not even want to play it. the game was originally supposed to have been played earlier in the season but was postponed because of the hurricane (the storm not the team). Miami had offered to just cancel the game, but UCLA insisted that it be played thinking they would crush Miami and pad their votes. oooooooooooops.

  • your wrong, it was ucla that did not want to play this game, its even on the dvd canes flashback watch it and you will see miami just got back from syracuse when we got drubbed like 45 - 0 so miami was anxious and dangerous after that game u got ucla coming into town for a game that that had to be replayed with their chance for a national title game on the line Miami wanted this game not ucla

  • Soooo, I guess that means Miami was scared to play the game?

  • no, he is wrong ucla didnt want to play this game miami wanted it i dont know where the hell he got that information it is even on the canes flashback dvd the guy even says it ucla didnt want to play this game miami wanted to pla it

  • didn't Edge run for a Miami record 299 yards in this game? This was one of my first fine Cane moments coming after those probation years

  • shit like miami was given the game face it we are a better team than u we have 5 national title a winning streak at home that know one can touch and we have more players taken in the first round of the nfl draft than any other team and the biggest named players like rey lewis sean taylor ed reed and not forget micheal irvin and many others

  • Dan, had UCLA won this game, Arizona would have gone to the Rose Bowl for their first time ever. Oh well, at least they beat Nebraska

  • Why not show the play where Melsby was down but it was called a fumble? Put that play up.

  • He shouldn't have lost the ball. If he holds on to the ball, then it doesn't matter whether he was down or not. A championship team doesn't let refs make bad calls. UCLA was not a championship team.

  • It doesn't matter. Down is down. Ground cannot cause a fumble.

  • It does matter. Losing the ball made it possible for the bad call to be made. If he holds on to the ball, UCLA plays for the national championship.

  • Miami was given this game on that call. Bad call. Am I pissed? you bet. That bad call was the turning point for the next 9 years of the UCLA football program. I have a sour taste every time I hear the word "Miami"... almost as bad as USC. I actually hope Miami recovers, plays UCLA in another game. It would be really intense.

  • Miami was given the game by a UCLA defense that gave up 689 yards and made Scott Covington, one of the worst Miami QB's ever, look like a Heisman candidate.

Also, UCLA couldn't even win their bowl game. They clearly had no business being in the title game.
