The song is about being invisible, and how someone who is invisible thus cast no shadow and people do not notice him. He wrote it about someone from another band though I don't remember who. I saw it on an interview, so basically the whole tune is a medaphore.

Actually the song was originally written for Richard Ashcroft of The Verve, at that time Noel Gallagher thought he was a man who had several issues about his whole life and he faced life in a way he liked to do it.

as the sunlight hits him he cast no shadow, and the reason he does is because he's non existant/invisible, which explains the lack of the a shadow, so does literally mean " the sun ", but in a different sense.
