  • Cool

  • Its so asome

  • holy crap thumbs up for 666,999th view

  • Space Shuttle was carriyng a 747? wow ;)

  • Я не опровергаю, но мне почемуто кажется, что шатл должен двигатся много быстрее чтобы поддерживать высоту, и не "упасть" на боинг. (извините за то что по русски пишу)

  • Was this ALT-3 or ALT-4?

  • They should have a 747 that catches broken jetliners from the bottom. I mean its better than letting the plane crash land and kill everyone, remember that Alaska airlines flight that was broken and after a few hours did a nose dive into the Pacific?

  • 6ppl found superman

  • mssa

  • 1977? wow

  • Thanks for posting this.

I remember seeing it on TV when I was little, but after I went to Atlantis' final launch, I needed to see it again.

Kind of like book-ends of the entire program.

  • Where's Kyle?

  • sorry to say this, but i think superman is busy taking louis for a ride. thts why he aint there....

  • superman is obviously recording the video!

  • you can see Superman, Wonderwomen and Greenlantern at 0.18 seconds. Superman on the left side with Wonderwomen and Greeny is on the right side they all shining like a stars :P

  • In addition, Shuttle can only use its wings in the last few seconds of fight when landing from LEO. When you add the weight of the landing gear it, the rocket needs to be a heavy lift system. Winged shaped craft are not idea for atmospheric reentry. No launch abort system either. When you add all these complications, we should have only had a demonstrator launch. Its risk and cost should have easily out weighed the benefit of landing like an airplane.

  • @ti994apc This asshole goes around to every single shuttle clip and says the same bullshit. Fuck you and your propaganda.

  • @Engage777 Why don't you try a well though out logical debate. Here is some free advise I hope you take it to heart. Potty mouth never make you look smart, will never get you a better job, never advance your cause, never get you a better girl or boy friend, will never honor your family, and will never honor God.

  • @ti994apc Your advice costs nothing because that's what it's worth. And I'm smarter than you, make more money, I've had more women, and I've done it all while having a potty mouth.. Go peddle your shit on teenagers, you're in over your head here.

  • @Engage777 I just did, you.

  • @Engage777 Fool.

  • COOOL!!!...

  • This is complete bullshit. The Enterprise was never airworthy. Get your damn facts right.

  • @TheMontanaDave What?!? Enterprise was used for atmospheric tests. It flew a few times during 1977. It was airworthy, just never spaceworthy.

  • @ph1980 Thats not a flight, and yes, "airworthy" ... well yes and no. The space shuttle coming down is basically a slab of titanium dropping like a rock controlled to ... (Skid or land are not the right words here) well designed to not slam into the dirt at the last moment. The Enterprise was used for control surface testing as a glider, nothing more, and as I said, its a rock with flaps.

  • @TheMontanaDave You've lost me. So what's the Bullshit then? The video? I don't see anyone disputing the nature of the shuttle coming back to earth.

  • @TheMontanaDave If I throw a rock in a way that it lands semi softly is it airworthy?

  • @TheMontanaDave A glider is certainly not a rock with flaps.

  • @RatKeeperDude The space shuttle is.

  • @TheMontanaDave Space Shuttle does not have flaps; it has elevons. How can the space shuttle not be airworthy? It enters the atmosphere faster than the speed of sound burning with thousands of degrees from reentry and manages to touch down safely with the crew alive (99% of the time) and launch again a few weeks later. You should look at some videos of the orbiter landing and you'll see how remarkable a machine it is.

  • @RatKeeperDude I did not say the whole shuttle program, I am a huge fan. And if you read up you will see I wrote it (Enterprise) was yes glider tested and proven, not space ready. If ya actually do a little research on the shuttles landing you will see why I call it a controlled crash.. a rock with flight controls. The damn thing falls like a rock and speeds are unreal till touchdown.

  • @TheMontanaDave The Enterprise was AIRworthy. See the video! But it wasn't equiped to go into SPACE!

  • how was that viewed from above, whho was higher?

  • was that an old america airlines 747?

  • I was there...it was awesome!

  • ok wut idiot pressed the release button!

  • dangerous... my heart it's stopped

  • tum tutututum tum -tutututututututututum tutututum tutututututm..

  • Lets hope an orion capsule is called Enterprise and really goes into space

  • this was really dangerous!!!

  • @myownmedia - fukin Poe.

  • Okay, which moron pressed the big red button that says " DO NOT, UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES, PRESS!!!!!!"

  • this is te noob way for getting into space

  • @megafaka not the noob, the cheaper

  • @megafaka te harty maori

  • @megafaka Uh...it never went into space that way, they just released it & It glided down to the runway for landing tests. You might be thinking of the X-15 or something?

  • @lst1195 Really? I thought attaching the shuttle to a plane and going up as high as th eplane could go and then letting the shuttle go into space was a real option. In fact, I thought this method had been used. You saying it hasn't? Please explain.

  • @blackonics Nope, To my Knowledge they always put the shuttles up on Booster Rockets. Except in the film Moonraker :) I was more curious if the Russians ever tried this test release with the Buran off the Back of the AN-225 but most people tell me no :(

  • @blackonics you are stupid. read a book.

    .

  • @helliott123 I do, just not books about the shuttle lift off procedures...."cup cake."

  • airplane porn

  • "ok, ok..........who's the wise guy that pressed the release button?"

  • good

  • @myownmedia No, This is an offical NASA test video of the space shuttle while it was in developement.

  • The astronauts are REPTILIAN SHAPE SHIFTERS-NOT HUMAN piss on them incinerate them/ check out REPTILIAN RULERS EXPOSED ON YOUTUBE.

  • Your government is lying to you.

  • @websuspect oh god... not one of you fags...

  • @websuspect Also the main booster runs on Hydrogen not made from water but from Petroleum.

  • The original plan was that OV-101 Enterprise would be disassembled and rebuilt for spaceflight following the landing tests. OV-102 Columbia was always going to be the first orbiter in space and Enterprise would have followed. But there was another test orbiter, STA-099, which resembled a bare metal frame and skin. It was realized to be easier (though still not easy) to convert STA-099 than to convert Enterprise. STA-099 became OV-099, Challenger.

  • is that good or bad

  • @wb9188 Why would it bad? The shuttle is just separating from the 747 and taking it's lift to space nothing bad here.

  • @Loudyest

That was only done for landing tests. There is absolutely no way to reach space like this.

  • @blablubb12345 at least not with existing technology. This method of launching is only theoretical, and doesn't involve the shuttle program as it is today

  • OV-101 should of gone into space... after all it is the Enterprise :(

  • What happened to this attitude by nasa..

  • hayyyyy!!!!!!!!!!!! they tried to do that on superman and failed epicly

  • funny how that space shuttle never went into space.

  • @legomaster335 not really

  • that good or bad?

  • superman should come !!!!

  • Forget all this Superman talk, he's good but come now, we all know what needs to be said here...I mean it IS called the ENTERPRISE...

Space...the final frontier...these are the voyages of the Starship Enterprise, it's five minute mission, to explore new ways of flight, to seek out new stars and new modes of space travel...

TO BOLDLY GO WHERE NO ONE HAS GONE BEFORE!

  • do you saw UFOs all around = 18 s ??!!

  • @thx428 those are called stars plus a really shitty camera =D

  • whoa

  • This was an awesome moment...I wish I could find an HD version of this video

  • imagine how nervous they were the first time this happened... id be so worried that the drag on the shuttle would cause it to drift back and rip the tail fin off the 747.

  • superman is gone... WTF?

  • Separation.

  • scary crap

  • this is fake as shit!

  • @killerbobhaha as shit isn't fake you acknowledge this was a real test flight, good boy.

  • @killerbobhaha - keep on Poeing, man - someone might take your bait one day.

  • I saw sts 131 launch at ksc

  • I got a chance to see this beautiful Space Shuttle in Virgina in the New Smith Sonian Hanger. What a sight to see. I felt honor. I just didnt know which Star Trek Theme to sing, the original, ST-NG, Or Enterprise (slower version or faster version)

  • what happened after separation?

  • @hagios9 a divorce :/

  • @619rey2643 i just pissed my self

  • The enterprise should be pulled out of Retirement and fitted with the Spare Engines of the othe shuttles. it should be given new Avionics, new equipment and a new tile heat shield and used for what it was meant for. It would tgyen be our only Shuttle fo NASA to get Astronauts to and from the Space Station. That way the USA doesn't look Foolish not having a Transport System capable of going to and from space for our ISS crews

  • @Roadracer987654321 What's wrong with the orbiters that are flying now ?

  • @mach25man

They are all being Retired. there are only 2 Shuttle Flights left.

Atlantis had it's last Flight just recently. It is being held on a standby for the time being just in case it is needed again for a rescue or if the other Shuttles run into trouble up there. someone told me just a few days ago that Enterprise's airframe was worn out.

  • @Roadracer987654321 Thats why I dont understand your comment. You say pull it out of the museum and use it when they others are working fine. Its not a flight worthy spaceship anyhow. It doesnt have a real heat shield and most of the componets that are required for space travel were never installed. Plus it sat out in the weather for years in DC.

  • @mach25man

someone just told me about 3 days ago that the enterprise was in poor shape as it's airframe was shot. i had no idea that that first shuttle would have faced such Neglect. It should never have been named Enterprise, that name was a mistake as it never went into space.

I thiought Enterp. was always sheltered indoors. I knew it had no heat shield. couldn't one be applied to it ?

  • @Roadracer987654321 It was only intended to be used for landing test at Edwards and thats all it did. In DC while they were building a facility for her, it sat in the weather. It would cost more to make it flight worth than just building a new one. I suggest we just keep flying what already works until a suitable replacement is ready to go where ever the govt. thinks we should go.

  • I remember watching this live on TV as a kid. It was really boreing, until the shuttle finally detached and glided in for a landing!

  • wheres superman!! :D

  • here i am!!! what shall i do for you mate? loll

  • hahaha

  • can't find superman

  • NASA film "Go For Sep" is the official documentation of the ALT tests. Totally cool NASA film, but I can't find it on youtube..

  • Duh. Enterprise will never fly again, and especially will never leave the atmoshrere. It is lacking most of the gear. Besides it is a great attraction at the Air and Space. Pay $15 for parking and you can stay all day. Also houses an SR-71 used in Transformers.

  • WTF? someone explain why

  • testing

  • @metaridleyfan2

    excuse me

  • 747 With 6 Turbo Jets ?

  • @krisraps no...u may be thinking of the AN-225

  • i heard that NASA may just put the Enterprise into operation as one of the last trips into orbit before the shuttle program is closed.....that what i heard anyway....

  • Enterprise was never designed to go into orbit, it never had engines or heat shield, only as a test bed for landing and such. Its now on exihibit at a building built for it at Dulles International Airport

  • Enterprise was an early shuttle but was only used within the atmosphere primarily to test the landing procedure. thats why.

  • Why did this shuttle never go into space? Pretend for a moment that we were not retiring the shuttle fleet. Would it possible to bring this vehicle, (if it still exists) up to operational status?

  • It was considered two times to do so. First in the 70s (as the second operational Orbiter) and then 1986 after the loss of Challenger.

  • It was also decided that the cost of retrofitting this orbiter to make it space worthy would not be cost effective. On top of that, the ship itself was essentially a prototype. There were many structural changes and systems added to subsequent shuttles which would not have been compatible with the design of the Enterprise.

  • No it isn't, it was never outfitted with a heat shield or engines, only used for a test bed for other ships. and you can see it in its own building at Dulles International Airport as part of the Air Space Museaum.

  • Thank you; if I ever get to Wash DC thats 1 place i wont miss. Also I had'nt thought of the point that smunge made as to the upgrades & changes made to the follow-on ships based on what Enterprise testing revealed.

  • LOL yes indeed, up until a couple of years ago they were getting spare computer parts off of E-Bay from old medical equipment of the late 80's. There has been a lot of upgrades in the later models. (the E-Bay comment is no joke with cut backs and trying to keep the old equipment running.)

  • Possible, yes, if we were in need of another shuttle, this would likely be the one that would be brought up to operational status. It would be expensive, but would be the most likely candidate. It needs a heat shield and engines, but other than that, it is a mostly complete shuttle. However, parts would be hard to find.

  • It's sad that the Enterprise never truly went into "outer space".

I think out of al the shuttles, it deserved it the most.

  • It was never designed to go into space, from the get-go - it is what they call the proof test bed. It weighs too much (instumentation and all), and it has had none of the upkeep and upgrade the other's have had. It was cheaper to build a whole new shuttle to replace Columbia than to upgrade Enterprise, even back then.

  • wow awesome :)

  • Before anybody becomes a jackass and calls this video fake, do a little research of space shuttle Enterprise in this test which was conducted on October 12th, 1977.

  • Yes. At a minimum, go to wiki and look up "Approach and Landing Test" and "Shuttle Aircraft Carrier", as well as a bunch of other articles there.
