By the time the, 'Chas 'n' Dave', version of this programme's theme tune came about, variety-themed shows for children were very much on the way out. 1981-82? The death knell was when The Krankies joined up. Even as a child at the time I thought they were crap. Ed Stewart, Peter Glaze and Bernie Clifton were the ones I remember more fondly. Stu Francis tried with his, 'crush a grape', gag, (every week), but it had gone very stale by then.
@handsomedude Yep Stu Francis with his grape crushing, I remember Ed.stupot Stuart and Bernie Clifton, but Im showing me age now hahaha, the plays at the end were good, bit like the plays like wot Ernie wrote in Morcambe and Wise
The show that invented gunge tanks before Noel's House Party was even thought of. You just knew during the end game that if celebrities got an answer wrong and were gunged, Stu Francis would inevitably be in the next booth having a laugh at their expense, only to end up getting gunged himself!
This was a poor imitation of the original with Leslie crowther. They used to do this mad play at the end, and they would all sing a song from the charts.
@wpinklady I remember Crackerjack from the 1960's with Leslie Crowther and Peter Glaze. It was in black and white but it was excellent TV. Kids today are being fed so much shite aren't they.
@airscrew1 I remember Crackerjack too, with Leslie Crowther and Peter Glaze. In one of the shows Peter played a character called "Sir Jasper Fowlpest" :-) Great stuff. We were lucky to grow up with that kind of programme! And do you remember the "CRACKERJACK" pencils?
