i don't know who said `it was a dart first`,but there weren't Darts yet in 1957! Also,as far as Ghia & Chrysler,this one was a concept car BUT they did build some cars together-Dean Martin drove one in the 50's that was hemi-powered (354 ci or 331 ci,don't remember which).Several were made for BUCKS! either way,cool car!enjoy
Enjoyed the vid! Good look at a KOOL car with Kool music. I'd like to make one like this with my Amphicar! I wonder who owns the Diablo today? Two thumbs up to a neat concept car that looks, sounds, and drives great! (many were just for show) Thanks for sharing!
I thought Chrysler had another concept car powered by turbine engine. I don't remember, but there were a few models that went down with a ship. Others were destroyed by Chrysler.
Chrysler had a show car named the Norseman on the Adrea Dorea that sunk on July 25th, 1956. It was powered by a 331-ci hemi V-8. Chrysler's turbine powered concept car was the 1961 Turboflite. Later Chrysler used 50 Ghia-built tubine powered cars in a national test and publicity campaign - allowing everyday people to try out the car for 90 days each. About 203 families partcipated. After the program, most of the cars were destroyed. A handful are in museums and private collections today.
The 1963 Chrysler Turbine by Ghia is what you're thinking of. 50 were built for testing by a "select audience" of drivers and all but a few were destroyed to avoid paying import duties on the Italian-bodied cars. The 1956 Chrysler Norseman show car was the one that was lost in the cargo hold of the SS Andrea Doria when it sank.
The Diable was originally built as the "Dart" near the end of 1956. It is built on a 129" frame and powered by a 392-ci hemi V-8. In 1958 the Dart was modified into the Diablo. The Dart/Diablo was used for aerodynamic experiments and Chrysler PR.
vmexner is right it was a dart before Diablo, but who modified it? Diablo and the emblems.? There was a 1st owner who was my grandfather. He made it, theres an untold story here.
I like the single, continous chrome band that runs around the middle of the car at a time when most cars were overloaded with chrome.

At 1:21, you may recognize that steering wheel. It was featured on the 1960 Imperial

Its incredible this car survived the crusher. Usually concept cars end up being destroyed. Amazing looking car!

@410dsa
That car was a bit ahead of its time, and it actually looks a lot more modern than the '60 Dart did which was the first one made.
