I was fortune enough to visit both the tiger balm gardens in Hong Kong and also the Ha Wah park in Singapore in the 1960's and 70's i still have many photos of my visits there
Another extraordinary movie you have uploaded, thank you! Hong Kong Government always makes mistake and this building is another one. They only demolishe the old building and build new one to earn more money. Lucky now many people know their value and give pressure to the Govt. The old Victoria Police Station is keep. Like you said, I have been in Holland before, it is a nice country indeed. thanks again my old man
Thanks MichaelRogge. Thank you for your generosity to provide the clip. The horrible but treasurable scupture was demolished. I am really excited by the sculpture via your film.

There is a similar park in Singapore, also suffered the same fate in 1988, a lot of the grotto stuff were demolished and replaced with high tech amphitheatres but the business venture failed after 10 years of operation, so Singapore government take it back, but a lot of the grottos were already gone, they decided to demolish the theatres and renovate the park recently. They might as well keep things untouched in the first place, just the repainting and sweeping will do.
Yes, very sad. There should be far more value being attached to these historical sites. In Holland such monuments are placed on a list and may not be touched. That's why a lot of the centres of our cities have remained as they were .
Mr. Rogge, Thank you for your great video. This is the first main attraction I visited as a boy when I arrived at Hong Kong in 1949 from Canton. During 1960s, I always patrolled there when I stationed in Eastern Police Station as a Police Corporal. Its an old good memory.
I was a very small child when my parents took me there. I only remember one thing, there were pictures on the wall showing the liars were punished, their tongue were taken out, something like that. I found those pictures every violent and scary. I do not remember anything else about that garden.
I lived in Tai Hang Old Village across the creek from Tiger Balm Garden from 1974-1995. The garden is my childhood memory, I had many good times there. Unfortunately I had never have a chance to climb up to the Tiger Pagoda. My mom said the owner locked the pagoda permanently due to a few suicides (jump down from top floor) there. I love those paintings most, especially the 'Image of Hell'.
i lived just next to the garden (the public housing called Lai Tak Estate) when i was young, talking about 1980+, sometimes i bought my books and study there.

Back in 1963 I used to live at Parkview Mansions on Tai Hang Road. I do remember the Tiger Balm Gardens.

I had never been to the Tiger pagoda upstairs. It was not allowed to get inside. The doorway was always locked.

I totally loved Aw boon Ha Gardens. It was a wonderland and an aweful nightmare in one action packed super park!
