  • Interesting video!

I have been experimenting with cardboard construction techniques since 1970 and offer this suggestion to anyone who is interested: Use a handheld router with a small-diameter bit against a template to cut cardboard sheets. It is much easier, faster and more accurate than utility knives.

I've made many furniture prototypes and even built geodesic domes with this method.

Use a carbide bit. Cardboard dulls tools quickly.

  • epic video, i've been all over this for ages.

  • save the trees, big up for recycled furniture, thanks for a great video

  • cardboard furniture rocks - love the environment

  • i think it takes more wood to make cardboard then to take dwon a tree

  • @roark02 'but is recycled

  • My Lord ... My ass would be covered with paper cuts !

  • That guy has 750 pounds of body weight?

Is he made of metal or stone?

  • @BeyondNeptune Hi. Thanks for the comment. The ribbed chair was ruined once the material was bent, so it wasn't worth reworking it. An interesting attempt, but ultimately requiring a complete re-do from the ground up. Regarding the ribbed chair, the fact that it uses a lot of material is a feature, not a bug. There is a lot of material going to waste, and this design uses a ton in a very structural and ridged way. It's also the best cat toy EVAR!!!! Thanks for the comments.

  • I think the "invisible table" @ 5:26 is WAAAAAAY cooler than anything you could make out of physical matter. I liked it so much I built one myself, and I'm using it right now. It's extremely eco-friendly, and simple to make, as well as giving my abs a great workout.

  • wow, really cool, and if you go out to burningman you can just burn up the cardboard furniture after having sex on it :)

  • a question about the nest project, where would you get steel pipe like that? ive been looking for some cheap steel pipe but everything runs into the $500s

  • Can I have some off that cardboard

  • ... when i was 8 i slept on a closed, but empty, cardboard box from our new tv and it held up my whole 70 pounds without bending at all

  • this is awesome

  • nice video, realy liked it

  • Il existe enfin un DVD de meubles en carton !!

  • I'm making some of the lounge chairs for our store. Awesome stuff!

  • I've invented an attractive, metal futon frame that can be assembled in about two minutes by one person without instructions, tools, or small parts like nuts and bolts. It's also far easier to convert to a bed than other futons.

I designed it to cheap and easy to manufacture. I'm selling the exclusive patent rights for $5k plus a very small royalty. You can watch a short demonstration by clicking on my screen name. Contact me any time.

    Thanks for watching.

  • Wow, I love your ideas. Reusing the cardboard for a chair, great.

  • Excellent. I work with carbdoard a lot too. Made all my desk file holders from card just today. It is ace, and free!!

  • i made a desk out of pvc pipe and a cardboard top

  • Finding cardboard is not the problem. Finding cardboard that is not mangled or warped is the problem.

You would not believe what I can make with cardboard, lol

  • they could make the chair out of concrete by using the cardboard to form a mold

  • yes, cus concrete is very comfortable

  • their lack of basic engineering hinders their ability to access why that chair was flimsy.

  • i agree.

  • hahhahaha

  • hey i won the recycling competition..

  • Y'all need your own tv show where you just make stuff out of old cardboard. I'd watch that! :D XOXOX

  • Yes I needed a game chair! If you buy one it is very expensive.

  • This channel is a great source for green information. I give it two green thumbs up. Be sure to check out my video. The Seegers Family Edifice Venture is a documentary of a family that is turning an old church camp activities center into their future home. One of their goals is to show practical construction methods that will turn this building into an efficient green dwelling.

  • Very cool use of material.

  • You are genius.

  • WoW... What a great Idea... I'm a grandmother and I think I could even do this... thanks guys for sharing this simple idea... I'll ook for more videos from you....

  • the one i made was pretty much like this...shape of a bean!won a competition with it!

  • I just want to point out that you are using corrugated. cardboard is an entirely different material.

  • Yeah, a "beautiful piece of art," is not the same as a non-functioning cardboard chair stuck on the wall.

The lounge chair is pretty cool, though. I am going to attempt doing an entire desk with this technique. I will post my results...

  • Hey Gomi style, what's next using a bag of trash as a bean bag chair? No J/K

I'm sure you guys wouldn't want trash in your homes... I hope. PS your name "trash" style is a little strange but it made me laugh

  • DIY what is that.

  • Do it yourself

  • Its a Joke!!

  • 01:07 That short dude weighs 750lbs???

  • weight is different from mass.

  • well he just doesn't look that heavy.....=( nothing against his shortness....sorry

  • weight is different from mass.

  • so he is 750 lbs massive right? ;)

  • nice

  • you cover the cardboard with a coating of pine resin mixed with turps...waterproof! Of course you have to live in the countryside with pine trees. Or hell... just paint with acrylic paints!

  • I need livingroom furniture, can I make this? Also I need dressers too.

  • Way to go! As a kid in the 60's we used to make cardboard furniture. I told my daughter the old stories of poverty and when I went to visit her in her new digs.. she proudly showed me the cardboard furniture they'd made themselves!!!!! Also, great for building sheds and barns and low cost housing

  • sheds and barns! what happens when it rains?

  • i don't see the point

  • Frank Gehry did it better.

  • wow ur martha stewert for the homeless

  • And Birmingham lol

  • mines bigger

  • dont you love it when mens shorts slide above there midthighs?

  • No.

  • The lounge chair looked sturdy, but I'd put some kind of cushoning on it - it didn't look that comfortable. The textured foam they use on beds [for people with back issues] would work nicely - you could it to shape.

  • Er - "cut it to shape"..

  • its a hobo's world

  • this makes no sense why kill trees to make cardboard and the waste it on furniture that doesnt even work. you could just make a chair out of wood that would actually work. or just stop killing trees in general.

  • The cardboard isn't made to be used as furniture, dummy, that's why they're "reusing" it, because the cardboard was made for boxes and junk.

  • Look up Frank Gehry "Easy Edges" 1969-1972 for information on the man who invented cardboard chairs.

  • Gomi is the Japanese word for garbage. The host doesn't look Japanese. Maybe he just picked that language because he likes the way the word sounds.

  • Someone make me a Woman from egg cartons and milk bottles?

  • Wow, that's really pathetic. Not only can't you get a woman, you don't even know how to use tape.

  • Guys...cardboard...and no duct tape!

Throw a slipcover on it...no one would know

  • Wow he made a car seat out of smelly paper! How about plumbing from soda bottles? Newspaper carpeting!

  • Doesn't the glue used in cardboard attract roaches? Not sure I would want that in my house.

  • San Francisco need I say more?

  • I made a cardboard table. It was easy, I just put an ashtray on a box "presto change o" now its a table.

  • and when somebody , drop soda...

  • And you can re-use Pampers for padding!

  • that chair might work if the host lost some weight

  • Cardboard, meet water.

  • Ahhh, reminds me of the days when ordering dozens of free boxes from DHL and then making furniture from the boxes was cool.

  • Why don't you just re-use WOOD?

  • Because the object is to recycle and cardboard is more accessible than wood.

  • ma take a look at "per un tozzo di neve" hob

  • WEAK

  • Excellent stuff! well done guys, looking forward to your next projects.

  • The meaning of GOMI in Japanese is literally Trash. So this is a trash style :)

  • great

  • keep it up! nice recycling job you got there!

  • i make chairs with my fruit cans and milk yugs too...Later

  • good job...

  • hmm pretty dumb 6 mins of making crappy chairs lol

  • why am i here?

  • To strengthen Chad's chair affix 45° crosses along the back, seat and front of the chair. Spraypaint them then apply lacquer and gloss for a nice finish.

Cardboard can be processed to make relatively stronger sheets of material which can be used for things such as this.

Similar material is used in business when assembling walls in your average contemporary home.

  • ok!:D

  • Damn it... I wish Id'a seen dis earlier...I just wasted 73 Bucks in Ikea for nothing...

  • Good job, i appreciate!

  • YOU'RE DOING IT WRONG.

  • ITS FAKE

  • no.

  • Using carboard with bum piss and hooker vomit on it is ideal. Way to go!

  • Wow! This is great!

  • search zzzz rock me slow

  • Nice ideas! I think I might try this. I clean a medical clinic and they throw away more cardboard than I ever thought possible for such a small business. Thanks for the cool ideas.

  • ... uhh... does anyone think that was funny?

  • ... uhh... does anyone think this is funny?

  • nice shirt

  • I actually use carboard as a fake vagina. Just take 1 empty whopper's box, line the sides with two-ply paper towels, preferably something soft... i.e. don't use brawny and just squirt in some lotion.

  • And what would happen if I were to piss my pants? Leather Everytime!!!

  • wtf, i wouldnt sit on cardboard, looks cute but oh hell no.

  • borin ...??!!!! WTF men thats jsut crazy i love it good job guys !!! re-use to save the planet buddy, impressive!!!

  • boring...

  • Way cool! Thumbs up!

  • Cool video.

  • Foreclosures are at record levels, the dollar is being deliberately destroyed, and the Bush Crime Syndicate has set up the worst police state ever seen to crush the American people when they revolt against it. Watch this video and others like it. You may have to make everything you need from scrap in order to live.

  • the single chair would actually work if u were to make the limbs a little thicker and more compact like the lounge chair

  • this would be a good video to show tech design kids at school

  • this would be a good video to show tech design kids at school

  • I like big love's video better, search: big love jimmy colima

  • Cardboard.....who cares? How about using soilde shit-house toilet paper. That I want to see.

  • fucking liberal nutcases!! they wont quit harping on this, "save the environment" crap until we're ALL living in caves.

  • ur a a moron if u think what there doing is wrong

  • thank you--for "outing" yourself as one of those fucking liberals. Did you know that liberalism is a proven mental disorder?? check it out

  • so being a converitive asshole and not accepting anyone and being so concernd with economi that u deystroy the earth u walk on is, mental sane?

  • I like how he has to use a drill for the cardboard.

  • Kinda reminded me of some of the homeless in Japan making homes out of cardboard boxes. Some were really amazing too.

  • what fuck is it?!!

  • 搞玻璃

  • beep ..............

  • itd be better if it had some padding on those chairs

  • Hey guys, the goofy sound effects, slapstick and stupid camera angles forced me to turn your video off at about 1:05. And that's only because I actually am interested in cardboard furniture. What do you think this is, the Discovery Channel? Get real.

  • that's pretty cool

  • i bet he thru it out after the show

  • They wasted a of gas by over-accelerating the pickup truck. Their carbon footprint is not being helped by that. I think I'll just eat leaves from now on.

  • what do you mean, "over accelerating" the pickup truck?

  • At 0:36 they slam on the gas w/ the gray pickup...I thought it was ironicalish of them. But at least they were carpooling...

  • Hey Orko-

The sound of the truck is a sound effect added during editing! The magic of movie-making

    -h2oboy1

  • lol xD

  • In italy for politicians is better incinerate instead recycling. cardborard is used to light up incinerators
