I didn't think any Sparks lovers existed anymore. Then, as I was stopped at a red light, the guy in the car next to me was listening to this song. I got his attention by flailing my arms out the window like an idiot... and he probably doesn't even know why...
@TangerineLightning ...poor sod...now all he can think about at night before he falls asleep at night is a Tangerine Lightning and he probably doesn't know why!! You have DESTROYED the mans life!!! ;)..... ;9
@notahemi ....hhmm..you are definately keeping us in a guessing game aren't u? WHY do you picture that?...lets see.. tick one of the possible many answers.. 1:- You are a Jew? .. 2:- U are an ANTI Jew?.. 3: U LOVE Jews?..4:- U Hate Jews? ..5;- U are a RACIST!?.. 6; U are an ARTIST, and that's why u can PICTURE things?..7;- U are a DANCER, PIC-TURING a coreography? ..8;- SOME OTHER FORMULA AND SOLUTION AS TO WHY U -picture...a BUNCH of JEWS?..DANCING to THIS song?? We would LOVE to know why??
Yes, according to a Record Collector interview a while back they expressed some displeasure with it. But this was the first Sparks record I ever heard, the one that turned me onto the band. Of course it's not as good as "Kimono" or "Propaganda", but still it's got a special place in my heart...and clearly some other people's as well :-)
I really appreciate this information, haj, because I love hearing anything and everything about the Mael Brothers, as I am a rabid Sparks fan. Propaganda hooked me, especially "Don't Leave Me Alone With Her," although I didn't discover it until many years after its release at a garage sale (the album was in mint condition!). "Goofing Off" is such a nifty song.
@haj1909 well..then i'm one of the five...so i reckon it means we should have a gathering then!! we can start a new spieces...with SPARKS on our skin instead of being a specific colour...
:) I just received "Introducing" in the post today. One of my favourite records in my LP collection. Awesome song - where is that clip from, the little animated piece with Ron being all cute and such?
I figured as much, I wonder if there's a way to see the whole gig? That would be something else. :) They must have been really young during the Halfnelson days.
I loved Sparks from the moment that I heard "This town aint big enough for the both of us" way back when (on american bandstand??). Now, I've turned my 9 y/o daughter on to them. We heard this song on a local college radio statio the other night and loved it. We had no idea it as Sparks!
Why is that? I am a new Sparks fan, and I keep hearing about Dinky and some neighbor (Euformism?), but I can't find anything on the net. (Which of course is the main source for anything nowadays.) Is it a detail from a real story, or a crude in-joke?
Again ----- just Brilliant!

Even if I am as I am mainly Black Metal fan, the Sparks is still my favorite band since 1976 (I am 51) :).

I think it's a great album - very poppy and radio friendly, although the lyrics aren't them at their most creative.

Why do I picture a bunch of Jewish folks dancing in this song?
notahemi 1 year ago 7
@notahemi Sparks are Jews, so I guess they did it out of patriotism. :)

I'm probably one of the five people left in the world who LOVE this record, "Introducing...". Even the brothers themselves seem to loath it....
haj1909 2 years ago 8
Is it true what you say, haj1909, that the brother's Mael do not like this? It's such an ultra-cool Sparks song.

Dinky who had a very noisy neighbor.
A real problem that didn't go away.
One of the reasons he is no longer with us.
