Please forgive my stupid question. Why do we need transmission ? why can't we just download directly from a website? I'm just trying to understand transmission. I use vuze, it's quite easy. Search and download. Just trying to learn what exactly is transmission. confuse.

Vuze is just same as Transmission really, except is has its own web browser built in, both apps are Torrent Clients, I just prefer the lightweight app over the more bloated fancier app.

What is type of file have you downloaded, .avi? .rar?

I would guess its a file that iTune won't play or its a file that needs uncompressing (or both).

Try downloading "VLC Player" to play the file if its an .avi, or just download a codec pack like "Perian", this will allow the video file to play in quicktime, and frontrow.

If its a .rar file then you'll need to uncompress the file first before doing anything, try the application "RAR Expander" to do that.

@MrRickyJames Double click and then choose "open with" since Limewire seems to be your default choice it will open it up with that, choose open with then find transmission and there :D

torrentz. com isnt realy like the others, its a torrent search engine so it uses all of the big torrent sights thats what i use. since mininova got shut down.

Finally!

A tutorial that is easy to understand and not with blasting distracting music. But I am stuck. I chose a movie from Mininova called "New 2012". I checked the comments & it was ok. The movie downloaded very quickly in Transmission. Yes, there was a folder in my Downloads.....but it is empty! Help please.

few options here: drag and drop the .torrent file into transmission or you can Command Click on the .torrent file, and select "Open with" and choose transmission

..that should solve your problem hopefully, few people had a similar problems.

Is transmission better than Vuse?

I like Vuse but,,,, it takes a lot virtual memory when it opens and slow down my Mac.

I know Vuze has a lot of extra feature other torrent clients haven't, but if all you need is your torrent client to download torrents, then in my opinion transmission is the better client, because its a much more lighter application.

Lastly, under Preferences--> Network, you have a "Peer listening port." Could you explain what that is and how that would effect my usage of Transmission if it were Open? (currently it's closed, but I can download files fine)

1. I'm using screenflow to record, and iMovie to edit & export.

2. I've never seeded a file before, I would assume you would need to make account at a tracking site first, and they also should have some more information on how to seed files.

3. I would just leave any network setting as they are.

I just downloaded transmission and I watched your video and found it very helpful. however, when i tried to do it it did not work. I found an album, looked at the comments to make sure it was good, and it had alot of seeds. i downloaded it, but when i went to documents after it was downloaded i double clicked n nothing happend so i never got the track names and was not able to get it into transmission. i did this several other times with other torrents ending up with the same result. HELP!

Your welcome. As people say macs don't get viruses, i wouldn't be so naive to go that far, but for sure you would be very unlucky to get a virus. When you're downloading torrents just make sure you download torrents with positive comments, then you shouldn't go to far wrong.

You sure the torrent had plenty of seeds? the more seeds the better. If you having problems with that torrent, then just search for another one.

k i know this is not related but i downloaded limewire allong time ago nd it worked perfectly fine buh then all of a sudden it wont open at all like not even show up on the doc . . anyone know the problem

Why not just delete the app, and download and reinstall Limewire again? that might solve your problem, if not you could try an alternative application like Frostwire or Cabos, they pretty much do the same job.

The key to avoiding Viruses Is look for a torrent with plenty of comments, read through the comments and if the torrent has positive feedback, then you should be safe from Viruses.
