i made one essentially the exact same way, however my air and water fittings are flipped compared to where yours are. it was 25 F lastnight and it was not working only creating frost on the grass. is it necessary to have the air in the straight line and water in the bend?
I'm interested, how big is that nozzle? And can U send me some link were can I find it online?
I watched and your other videos, and I'm interested in one thing more, and that is, what is minimal/optimal temperature for snow making and how much snow can you make on one hour machine work and what is surface coverage per hour? :)
@atp9187 I believe you will need a larger compressor. Check the CFM@90 rating of your compressor. This design will work with a compressor with a rating aound 4 CFM@90 or larger. I am using a compressor with a rating of 5 CFM@90 to make this video. Thanks for watching and good luck making snow!!
@timbreninger i used a pankake conpressor and got same results as you as long as your conpreessor can continulsy put out about 90psi then it will do fine
If you're really interested in snow making, consider joining snowguns.com. There are hundreds of people who exchange information on a daily basis, plus hundreds of pictures and different types of set-ups - it depends on your budget.
@eou812 It really depends on if you using a power washer or just regular tap water presure. Tap water presure is usualy around 25 PSI but varies by location. If your using a presure washer, you can use a much higher water presure. Thanks for viewing my videos!!
is a air compressor with a 6.5 CFM@150PSI a good compressor for this snow maker? and with the compressor would my water pressure from the house be ok to use with my compressor or should i use a pressure washer that has 2.5 GPM and 5,000PSI would all of this work and would i be able to succsesfully be able to make that and make snow?
Hello Tim, Exactly what diameter should the hole in the cap be? Also, would a 1.1-HP. 13-gallon tank, 116-psi compressor be sufficient to drive this snowmaker?
@polybozologist I believe the hole size I made is 7/64". I don't think a 1.1-HP compressor would quite be enough. It really depends on the CFM rating of the compressor. I would sugest the mimum of a 5 CFM@90PSI compressor.
nice! i finally broke out my snow gun today and made some. mine is a little less elaborate than yours, and uses a pump sprayer nozzle, but it gets the job done...i've had a 4 foot high, by 10 feet wide pile of snow letting it go all night.
i need a better compressor though, ours doesnt have the CFM or tank capacity (only 12 gal) to make snow without running full blast all night without stopping.
@Turbojeep23 SWEET!!! Do you have a photo of it? You can email it to me at edmondlights@gmail.com Thats quite a bit of snow in one night. Yes, A larger compressor would be nice. I'm guessing with the sprayer nozzle your able to run more water through the nozzle.
@timbreninger sorry, no pics. but i sill take some next time i get a chance to break the snow gun out.
yes i can run more water, but the downside it that the compressor runs constantly and its a 20 year old compressor (that has already seized twice) so i dont have that option right now. however, i plan on building another snow gun that uses an oil burner nozzle, this would make less snow overnight, but it would allow the compressor to stop for a bit every few minutes.
@enjoiskater1893 I had it running about 2 hours in the sun for the video shown. It didn't take long at all. I have run it all night, and got a huge snow pile.
I have one like this on day when temps are about 16F I can get up to 3 inches per hour! I also run a bigger high pressure one that makes a freaking lot of snow! I found it works better if you shorten the end nipple I use about 1 to 3 inch nipple. (I think it work a lot better)
@Rocketholbert7 I tried that but I was so wendy that day, it was blowing the snow down the street. It would not fall in my yard. It was pretty cold that morning, the snow quaility was good, just takes a long time with a small gun.
@timbreninger If i did this for 12 hours. (over night) and same thing you did. On grass and about 20 out side how much snow will i get? like how much 3"? and how big of a space does it shoot out? 12X12? Thanks =)
Here is answers to a few more questions I have been emailed about:
I had the presure set to about 25-30 psi. As for water, just slowly open the valve for water, until you get a good stream(no sptitting). my air compressor can crank out 125 psi, and it 5.5 cfm @90. Just make sure to keep the air on the entire time water is running, or you may get water in your air line, as it will freze up.(trust me, I know from experance).
Wow, I'm getting a lot of email's about this device. I use compressed air and water. They mix in the nozzle and when they come out are separated into small partials. Then with the reduction of air pressure, it super cools the water. I will be posting a how to video shortly, so subscribe to my channel. If I can find the plans I used, I will email them to you. Email with any other questions.

you should point it more upwards to give the water more time to freeze. You will get better quality snow and maybe a little more.
