Fuck off man. Gears 3 wasn't a bad game either. Im just sick of fucking COD winning everything while somehow going downhill. Call of Duty 4 modern warfare was clearly the best of the series. I loved that game, possibly one of the best shooters recently next to halo. MW2 was decent, and now MW3 is complete trash. People say Battlefield 3 should have won with good reason, it actually has made new improvements and provided great gameplay, unlike MW3, the complete trash that it is

I feel Gears 3 should have won shooter of the year. It was an insane improvement over Gears 2, except the campaign was a little 'all over the place'..It's a shame that the award is basically a popularity contest. COD just sold SO well that it was basically like they had to give it the award. The reason COD sells so well because it's incredibly easy to pick up and play. Gears and Battlefield are a lot harder to pick up for a new player and have a much smaller audience.

Anyways, MW2 and 3 may feel the same, but that's because the engine is so similar. the engine is fine, it doesn't need to be radically improved. The gameplay is far different though, it's still within the realm of 'CoD', but, from personal experience, the game plays out much differently. The 'hype' is just the huge fan base.

In terms of pure quality, I say Gears 3 gets shooter of the year. It has the least bugs (if any?), most balanced, dedicated servers (BF3 has client side hit detection WTF?), and competent maps (BF3 and MW3 has fans that hate their maps).
