@JAMamation True. But if your warranty has ran out like mine, you may as well try taking it apart to try and fix it before you completely fuck it up. If not just buy a new one.
i got my xbox with the 3 rings of death, i did the xclamp repair it ran for about 15 mins then got thew E73 error, i have tried this method but it doesnt work.
it takes about 5-7mins to overheat and i do what the video says but alas it doesnt work. do you know of any other way that might fix this other than reflowin/reballing the board as i cant afford to do it.
It involves using a heat gun on the gpu, ram, etc. It repairs cold solder joints, which is often a cause of e73/e74 errors. It worked for me. Check out the guides available on YouTube & Google, and best of luck if you try it out.
You may want to consider reflowing the motherboard's chips. It's simple to do and means you don't have to keep blocking the fans and waiting 10 minutes every time you want to play a game.
When I got the 360 from a friend it started in this condition. It lasted from April till about 5 days ago using this trick only the first time. I cant seem to get it to work now. Been trying to see if I've done anything differently but I think mine is just kicking the bucket.
well if using this trick has worked from april till now you have done very well for yourself! mine didn't last that many months doing this. so yeah, i think yours is finally kicking the bucket im afraid :/ you should probably consider getting the new xbox slim. it's worth it anyway. thanks for watching.
@JAMamation Yeah getting one on my 21st on the 29th. But I'm a hardcore gamer that is in GBs and its very annoying having to go 2 weeks without it... lol
thankyou so much this worked the only thing was when i turned it back on it gave me a message talking about the xbox automatically shutting down if theres poor ventilation and when i turned it back on i had to set my membership to automatically renew, its not a problem though because sometimes the xbox will shut down by itself after putting paperclips in the back and then the messages dont pop up
I don't know if you still use this account, but what do you mean by check the harddrives bit. Because I barely play my xbox, like one every 2 months. and when I went to play it yesterday, I got the 1 red ring.
@JAMamation Oh okay well. Do you think my E73 error is due to the dust all up inside my xbox? I don't think it's due to cpu or motherboard chip whatever things. (hopefully, knock on wood). I barely play my xbox, the last time i played it was like 4 months ago, and it worked fine, but now i bought hitman and i went to play, then all of a sudden the 1 flash. -.-. im currently trying to open it up but I don't have a torx screw lol.
@JAMamation that's a temporary fix. my friend did that and it worked for only 2 hours. plus it damages your motherboard by constantly overheating it. it's no different than the towel trick
Be aware that there are different types of the "ring of death". It all depends on the number of lights you have. Each one can mean a different type of product defect.
Yep :) and mine still works. I just have to fix it virtually everyday/ other day and it works at treat. It will eventually just stop working probably but at least this delays it and you can save up to send it off or buy a new one :)
@JAMamation Alright, good deal. This worked like a charm, but I did not wait until I got two lights. I got tired of waiting after two mins and just unplugged it with just the one light. Lol. it still worked! But IDK if that would matter or not. And also the fans were not loud as sin either. Idk if thats a good sign or not.
That's because you didn't wait for the two rings, (two rings mean it has overheated) and therefore this tells the xbox to automatically spin the fans mega quick when you turn the xbox back on to cool it.
Hey it worked anyway and thats the main thing, next time though wait for the two red rings, so the fans spin faster and it fans the dust away greater. (sometimes a gather of dust causes the e73 red ring in the first place)
X) lol sometimes stupid things like that cause the RROD and people just send it off to microsoft without even investigating it when they could have just easily fixed it like you did.
It would just be easier to send it in to get it fixed or get it replaced at the store if it's still under warranty. Doing this over and over again will eventually break the xbox completey.
This doesnt fix it permanently, in the long run it screws your xbox up even more

your console is pretty much fucked anyway, at least this is temporary. if not satisfied simply send it off to get fixed...

well it worked for a week with me, but let's put it like this. your xbox is fucked anyway. nothing fixes rrod forever.
JAMamation 7 months ago
@JAMamation alright then. but on average, how long do you think we can keep doing this until our xbox dies?
DerrickWalks 7 months ago
@DerrickWalks
depends, but mine lasted roughly 3 months :)

I understand that you are speaking of the e-73 error.
Thanks for your post! It is great information and I'm glad you posted it. Do you know any good sites for the 3 light RROD of death?

nope im afraid if its 3 red lights ur 90% f*cked and will either have to get a new xbox straight away or send it off for repair :(

thats why i said e73 error, and that only happens for one light.

@JAMamation I believe the "Power Cord / Pack" was trapped under a box and it over-heated. Once i removed this, the red rings turn to green :D :P
