fabulous fabulous, if you're a composer and in doubt listen to this music—just wonderful. I'd say I wish I could write something like this as in sound, but we write different music. This music is just grand, all around completely grand. I must comment on this again :D
Robert, have you ever considered this work for orchestra or concert band??? The music lies in all the right places for either. If you wrote a concert band version I'm sure you could get easy performances, and probably an easier publishing. Also, there is far less literature of this nature. Don't even consider such an undertaking until you are sure fire done with your piano score and then let it lie around for awhile before for a relisten . . . Regards!
There are an incredible amount of things to admire in your writing here--the counterpoint, your transitions follow nicely, you obviously understand the limitations of string writing, and your harmonic language, just to name a few. Myself, what I like the most is that you stake your name in a style that has already been explored by some huge (and deservid) names--Copland, Grofe, etc., but do so in a way where you don't fall under their huge shadows . . . Not many writers are able to do that!!
I really enjoy this a lot, I love the crispness of the writing and the constasting middle section a lot. The progression at 1:05 is also very interesting. Did you use a theme for the opening and closing sections and if so what theme?
The American"ess" came across beatifully I am very intruiged by this music, is the rest going to be posted? Is the score available for purchase.
I have some music on my own page check it out when youre bored (mostly MIDI but 3 live recordings).
