  • To anyone wondering about which DAW is better than the next, it's all about workflow. Burial used a broken laptop with Sound Forge to make his music. DJ Shadow used an MPC 60 to make "Endtroducing" which was named one of the best albums of all time.

Anything you use will be superior to what artists 15 years ago had to work with.

The most valuable tool in your studio is YOU.

  • @doucheorturd2012 "I'd hate to copy burial's style for my own music though... "

It was never my intention to copy anyone's style. I clearly stated that I was bored and wanted to share some knowledge.

  • This is a great idea.

  • @doucheorturd2012 Not really mate. This is a tutorial helping other producers, so you can take note of what he has shown you and make your own sound :)

  • @doucheorturd2012 dude, its a computer program before anything else.

  • @doucheorturd2012

All things that are created are based on inspiration. To create is to copy what was already there.

  • omg, release this please;d

  • omg... this tune ever finished?

  • put a limiter on that shit god damn

  • thanks for this quality vid :) have u done anything with that tune? would love to hear a longer version ... :)

  • Burial tutorials are much better than Skrillex

  • I've only been learning Ableton for a couple of days now and have already made a rack full of sounds from things I have found in my room, they sound great with the reverb, but from what I can make out your 'b - return chain' is the 'PingPong' effect and it looks like you have the effect turned up on most of your samples in the rack, I don't seem to hear it though. I'm I missing something, wish your video was in HD ;)

Going to try learn compression now for the samples, thanks again.

  • @JimmmyP69 Oh wait, are you using it on some of the vocal parts?

  • @JimmmyP69 If you look closely, I only decided to use it on track 2, the riser. you see Send B turned up.

  • pretty awesome man!

  • So much Burial. I love it.

  • 3:30

    What.

  • Mate you have given me some real inspiration to start making music, it has been on my mind for years but I have just never pushed myself and after seeing this I really want to make a start. I have just downloaded Ableton, purchased a midi keyboard/pads and the same mic as you. Hopefully I will make the push and start making some great tunes soon, thanks for this video and I would love you to make more like it, cheers buddy.

  • @JimmmyP69 Thanks for the kind words :) I will definitely be making more videos.

  • @JimmmyP69 when you have the money, support ableton and buy it. i intend to do that has soon has i can. its really important to make sure they keep making new versions. thanks.

  • @electrotrolha Yeah I probobly will I just wanted to trial it first and see whether or not I enjoy using it, after the past week I have come to realise I love using Ableton, the only other full music production package I have tryed is Fruityloops and I just could never get into using it. People kept saying to me that Ableton was harder to get to grips with compared to FL but I found Abletons layout really simple and easy to get use to, it's a great piece of software.

  • @JimmmyP69 yeah man for sure they really pay attencion to what users ask from them and usually release versions with the user opinions in mind. for me i´v tried all major softwares out there and i can say for sure ableton is the best in workflow. it started has a tool for live shows so they really have workflow in mind and they beat every other product in this area, wich its crutial to get your ideas in the cpu fast and dont lose anything from those spikes of inspiration.cheers! :)

  • @electrotrolha Yeah I love the session view where you can mix things up and see how they sound it's amazing. Been working on a track the last 2 days with all my own sounds that I made with my microphone '/watch?v=ov-UVcJWxhg', what do you think. It's not finished yet so feedback would be great. Like I said it's my first ever attempt at making a track so don't be too harsh on me lol I have so much to learn!

  • @electrotrolha But yeah I think it's important to be sure what software you want to use before diving in and buying it. After buying Ableton Suite, NI Massive, Sylenth1, simple midi controllers and a decent microphone your already looking at towards a thousand pounds. And this is without even buying a decent computer/soundcard/monitors/headphones!

  • Excellent man! Really nice ideas & very inspiring ^^

  • to sequenced, no soul

  • love this please more ableton Tutorials !!!!!!!!!!!

  • a whole track please! it's awesome!

  • Which mic brand/model?

  • @danielbonavita Audio Technica AT2020

  • @phillydoberman Thanks!!!

  • @phillydoberman How do you set the usb mic up on Ableton Live? As a separate "Audio Input Device"?

    Excellent tutorial, btw! :)

  • @syafiig The mic is the XLR model which is connected to my audio interface. Then it's just a matter of seleting the audio input source from the preferences within Ableton Live, then the input source on the channel itself.

  • @phillydoberman Great video. Do you mind me asking what pop shield you're using as well?

  • @genaugenaugenau It's a Nady MPF-6.

  • @phillydoberman Thanks dude

  • incredibly inspirating!!!!!

  • Making the .alp available would be really sweet.

  • verry nice ! how do you get that bass sound ? is it just a sine wave /sub and how to get it to fit like that "to roll with it" what sort of pattern do you have on the piano roll for the bass? thanx again.. nice work

  • @MultiLiquidsilver It's a filtered reese. I know I should've explained it and possibly showed it, but I wasn't thinking of it at the time. What I would say is that for this particular tutorial where it shows how Burial puts tracks together, you can just sample a reese bass from a jungle track and put a LP filter on it. That's how he does it. He doesn't use a sequencer or DAW.

  • @phillydoberman thank you very kind of you & good work thanx for spreading the knowledge.... keep it up

  • very funny and profound

  • 2:57... I come in here to listen to the track itself.

  • i would love to have this lifeset!

  • WOW

  • Awesome, thank you very much for this! I'm inspired!

  • If you're wondering about the bass, look up on youtube "Ableton reese bass" and you should have some success

  • ableton is the fucking king

  • @burckett The very best.

  • @phillydoberman yeah i know good vid man made me realise how to get new sounds in my tracks, we all appreciate the time you put into stuff like this mate cheers

  • @burckett someone needs to build a monument

  • Wow, you're a genius man!

  • @ParanormalDub1997 Thanks :-)

  • @phillydoberman Yeah, just did a similair thing myself with keys, my phone, a pencil, a lighter, and banging some random objects, and it's terrible haha!

  • @phillydoberman Oh! And are you releasing this? I love this and would love a download link, I'm a massive fan of Burial's work, and this is very good indeed!

  • @ParanormalDub1997 I wasn't planning on releasing it, I was just bored and wanted to share some knowledge with everyone. But given the positive responses to the video I think I may work on it and turn it into an actual song.

I'd hate to copy burial's style for my own music though... Oh well, we'll see how it turns out. Thanks for the feedback!

  • @phillydoberman Yeah man! You should totally do it, I love it!

  • omfg dude. props

  • holy shit

  • completely accurate!

  • nice

  • Thats pretty awesome!

  • @RebelBangBeatz Thanks :)
