  • Great tutorial thank you it is very helpful and will save aot of modellers money and be more fun . Thank you my friend

  • Every Olive Drab i've tried to use on my tanks and infantry is way too dark. Which brand of paints makes a Historicly correct OD paint. p.s. ive tried Testors, Testors Model Master, And Tamiya

  • I have been looking around for some ideas for stowage on my Tamiya IDF M51. Thanks a lot for this vid it has really helped a lot.

  • Excellent tutorial. I'm going to be working on a tarp for a Trumpeter BTR-60 when i get home and this is exactly what I was looking for. Thanks for taking the time to produce and post this video.

  • baby powder arrrrrrrrr sheer genius, ive been using oil and takes ages to clean off

  • the putty on the wrap looks really wrong. >.<

  • can u make a vid on how to use playdough and not putty thanks

  • can u make a vid on showing hot to do this for ww2 and moderen us infantry

  • Nice vid!!! 5* sub'd.

  • Was this a Dragon kit?

  • Many thanks for your help and advice. Keep up the good work. Happy new year mate.

  • Nice model and really great work on the stowage.

One quick question, if you do not mind, what do you use as filler when preparing your models for painting?

    Regards,

    JJAB99

  • @jjab99 normally mate I use MR Dissolved Putty as a filler. It's not a putty but rather a thick cream that you slop on with a cocktail stick or whatever then leave to dry. I like it a lot for some reason, but I've also used epoxy putty and magic sculp (the stuff I used for the stowage) as a filler.

  • I used to roll wet toilet paper and tied it with thread, a little white glue and paint the bedrolls the color :)

  • hi scale model medic

thanks this video really helped me.

Now I ve got another question.

what colour did u use for the sherman???

  • @yodabora It was LifeColour UA 220 olive drab

  • Is there any chance you can do a video on how you managed to emulate the wear patterns on that Sherman? It looks very realistic.

  • Wow, thanks for sharing your techniques.

  • wow...can i use real fabric?

  • Do you have a video showing you making the sherman?

  • No I'm afraid not, this was for a diorama I entered in the UK IPMS nationals last year and I prefer to keep such work unpublished until it is finished.

  • Great videos darn things are to big to stream quickly though.

  • Is there a putty that I can get here in the US which you can recommend for this?

  • you can get either Milliput or MagicSculp in the US via online stores. If you absolutely must use local bought supplies this method might work with the yellow and green epoxy putty you can buy almost anywhere.

  • you seem to be very interested in the model trains topic. if you are going into something like that it cost's a lot of money. my dad built one i exceed $2000 American. the hobby is attractive but the price scares me away. well have a good one!

  • Stumbled on your videos and I love them! Keep them coming please. Cheers from USA

  • 5*, really impressive tutorial!!!

I also use Lifecolor with my airbrush...but i often get problems to spray the paint out. Maybe i mix the wrong amount of paint/ distilled water...can i ask you which is the mix you prepare with Lifecolors? Thank you so much!

  • Hi,

I too get problems when airbrushing Lifecolour. I don't know why and I found it was easier to switch to Vallejo air for airbrushing... they are my favourite paints.

The sherman in this video was airbrushed with Lifecolour though and I had no problems. I honestly have no idea why things go wrong with that paint.

In this video I used it with a brush straight out of the pot.

Previously I've thinned it with both water and lifecolour thinners. Sometimes it worked, sometimes not :(

  • Hi,

mmm...i think I'll switch to Vallejo colours too, many people have the same problems...i tried to change the mix many times, but no results...

Anyway thanks a lot for the answer!

  • Damn! Really awesome work and thanks! Keep on going with your excellent work.

  • No problem.

Vallejo air colours impressed me a great deal when I got used to using them.

I don't work for or get anything from Vallejo for recommending their paints - it's purely what I've found from using them.

Check the colour modulation video for more on using their paint.

  • Nice job! Could you do the same with plummbers puddy?

  • yeah there is a good chance plumber's epoxy would work - I don't know how well the talc would keep it from sticking to the tools but the principle should be the same with any modelling putty for this technique.

  • wow the model is amazing? i wonder how many year of experience he had. i just started and im very interested!

  • @grandtheftauto4123

    Hello mate

I've been doing military models for about 5 years in total, but I only got serious about it about 2 and a half years ago. Just remember to take it steady and don't be frustrated when your first models don't come out as you wanted them to... practise makes perfect !

  • thanks you very much! your work is amazing. i do not intend to rush my abilies and take it slowly as first. im going to buy some supplys soon like a airbrush conpressor and the airbrush. can you give advise toward finding a proper airbrush kit? im going to refer to your videos alot. do you mind posting more videos maybe? thanks again for all you help.

  • hehehe - I am filming some new videos right now. I have just got a new batch of raw footage finished so I can start editing, the new stuff is coming soon.

As for an airbrush, I personally use the Iwata HP-C+ which is not cheap, but it is a real investment and if you look after it will last you a very long time. It's also very versatile, for basecoating and camouflage work. Get the best airbrush you can afford, and remember - an airbrush is only ever as good as the person using it!

  • A very decent 'How to' video...clean and clear. Nice work

  • Excellent work. Looks great.

    Thanks for sharing this!

  • excellent video. love your work sir.

  • thanks a lot mate, more videos to come so keep yer eyes peeled !

  • I can't wait :)

  • I won't be able to make it to Telford, as my son is ill and I'm not likely to be able to be away for too long a weekend.. Was hoping to see it done on the IPMS IPSWICH website.. I mainly build armour in 1/72 as I find them about as detailed as the larger kits, just a bit smaller, saving space.. :)

  • sorry to hear about your son. Perhaps when the diorama is finished I will get you a link to the finished photos. I have applied for IPMS membership so I assume I will be able to get more involved with branch sites and such in future.

  • Thank you.. I was never an IPMS member, just a member of the IPMS Ipswich club.. I hope to rejoin again before too long, and in the meantime I keep going to my 'mother club' which is the North Essex Modellers'.. we're not an IPMS club, but severall members are IPMS members too.. if you want to exhibit at Telford you have to be an IPMS member, of'course.. or at least it helps.. :)

  • IPMS Ipswich, do you say.. according to your channelpage, anyway?? I may well know you then.. :) Had to leave the club due to workhours and other changes at work, but am still 'active' in the Colchester club.. Hope to learn a few things from your vids, my standard of modelling is not anywhere near yours, I'm afraid.. But I'm having fun, and that's what's most important.. so they say!! :)

  • Hi, I'm not actually a member yet!! sending the form off today. My local branch would probably be stafford as I'm in the West Midlands. I have 9 weeks to meet the deadline to register the entry, I'm hoping to make it !! Keep your eyes peeled for the sherman in this video at IPMS Telford if you go, that'll be my dio entry.

  • Oh, I see.. well, I don't know what the club is up to these days as I had to stop, and of'course now I don't get the newsletters.. but the Ipswich club secretary is a member of the Colchester club as well, and I'm thinking of joining up again, even if I still won't be able to attend more than the odd meeting!! It's a very nice club to be a member of, Ipswich.. :) I tend to build aeroplanes mainly, but now and again I treat myself to something with wheels or tracks.. 'targets' as they are known!!

  • I meant 'treasurer', not secretary.. of'course.. :) The lady holding the purse.. :)

  • Thus video inspired me to make my own blanket roll stowage for my model tank. Thanks dude!

  • nice

  • Great video for people who are apprehensive about making tarpaulins and sheeting with putty. One tip, I would build myself a pop shield, as your p's are getting distorted on the audio track.

  • A "pop shield".... I will look this up. I guess a pop is those annoying clicks on the P. I'll get one sorted out for the next video. At least this time no problems with a quiet audio track ;)

  • can i do this to go on ground ??? not back of tank

  • sure of course you can. you could use the same technique for any cloth... ground sheets, tents, curtains, bedsheets, clothes on a washing line.... it's just an easy way to model cloth.

  • Nice demo. I myself, have much leftover rigging line from ship models. Some is tan,and is perfect for 1/35th rope.

  • very good!!!!
