man this looks like a live burn if it was a real fire and the house was like that when the 1st engine truck or ladder showed up there they would have called out more units then what is in the vid there would also be more hose lines pulled then what is in the vid
you all do realize that this is just a demonstration right....its a real fire but not a real situation...and if it was real and all they were doing was containing it...maybe she didnt pay her taxes or house payments....the fire department dosent have to put a house fire out if they dnt want to actually...well if the person hasnt made payments that is
@m5wagers Any fire dept has a job to do, protect life and property. I agree this must be a live burn for practice, but if it was a real house fire, they would be shooting water through the openings of the house (mainly the windows) to cool the inside down enough to extinguish. I don't think any firefighter would let a house continue to burn because someone hasn't made their payment. If they did, they need to step away from firefighting before they get someone hurt or killed.
Mary Lou looks to be between 80 and 90 years of age, a bit old to we working nights, or chain smoking don't you think?
Moreover, why are some of Mary Lou's windows boarded up? I agree with the others. This was a training evolution and Mary Lou, the elderly lady pictured was likely no where near the place during the burn.
yea im a firefighter and that is a training burn ....... but he is just use that burn video cuz he probably couldn't get a video from the fire that was at the old lady's house
this is about fake and a half. its a live burn, you can see the fire tape, and there arent alot of hose lines out, plus if it was that well involved, i think there would be some more companys there. plus at about 2:40 you can see one of the windows is boarded up, also, depower is about a retard, the picture of "mary lou" was just a fake from google.
looks like a training burn to me, cuz if it was the real deal they wouldnt take time to put up the tape, and they would have more hose lines on the fire...
This house fire looks a hell of a lot like a training burn. We have these all the time, you can see the fire tape, theirs no way we would have that laid out if were truly fighting a fire, it gets in the way. But yes smoking does cause fires, we had one about two weeks ago caused by a cig.
I am a smoker and I am working on stopping, but one thing I have never done and will never do, is light up a smoke while I am laying in bed. I have never fallen asleep with t cig and never will. I feel sorry for the lady who died and do not want to seem as if I do not care, but as a smoker, I know how stupid it is to light up a smoke when you are tired and in a position where it will be easy to fall asleep.
Don't smoke? Sure, that would help. But what would help more is if mattress manufacturers were forced to finally stop making mattresses with highly flammable materials! They have the technology, just won't implement it because they're cheap. They'd rather see people die if if means they save a buck.
i had a shout the exact same a few months back, in my normal work and around 2pm my alerter went off for a persons reported. turns out the fire was caused due to the lady fallin asleep with a cigarette in her hand. luckily we wer there within 3 mins, got her out and managed to confine the fire to her bedroom. but the potential cud have be catastrophic
My granddad passed last year because of a cancerous growth in his neck, caused by smoking..this video hopefully will let people know of how dangerous this can be..
If this is the same person, old lady MaryLou Ash worked 3rd shift as a Walmart greeter in Macedon, NY. thats why her windows are boarded up. Shes poor. BUT years of smoking where not good to her - in that picture of her - she is actually only 43 yrs old. Its rumored she has a crack issue, but no longer smokes.
RIP Mary Lou! @ least you had a good 82 yrs (i think) ILY Mary-Lou! (no i dont no mary-Lou but shes a beatiful person! -crys!- MARY-LOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOU!!
another mistake that is made a lot...is cooking something when your tired and falling asleep with grease on or something on the stove. I know 2 houses that burned that way. Smoking does kill..
It's good to see an everyday person take a public stance on somthing thats plagued the fire department increasingly the last few years. I'm sorry for your loss of a friend, but you've done the best possible thing with this experience. Myself and my brother are both firefighters, when we were little, our mother set her mattress on fire with a cigarette and did not wake up. Very luckily, the smell woke us up and we were able to move her and put the fire out.
I smoked for some thirty(30) years. My neice suggested that I try this drug called Wellbutrin, or Ibupropin Well, once I followed my doctor's instructions, I quit, February 4, 2005, and have never smoked since. No withdrawals, nothing. They just tasted so bad, you couldn't smoke, So, if you want to quit, please try this drug.
Hey, I am a firefighter in Farmington NH, please pay attention to what this guy says. If you know a smoker, or live with a smoker, please show them this video. This is something that happens all too often every day, and like so many other fatal fires, it is something that can be easily prevented.
Depower: I have a lot of respect for you for making this video, it is a great tribute, and has a great message. Sad to see, hopefully this will prevent a few more.

This is a joke right? I mean...her last name was Ash and his connection between "smoking" (not the cigarette, mind you) and dying in a house fire does not make sense!!
I am a firefighter and when we have a body recovery on a structure fire we put the fire out by going to the fire! We don't sit back in the field and spray at it where it don't reach the fire. Family's do like to have at least something to bury!My dad died 3years ago in a house fire that was fully involved but we still fought the fire and was able to recover half of his body. A cigerette will not burn down a house like that. This has been proven. Cigs do not put out a flame. The worst it would do is burn a hole.(Like in carpet.). It's too weak to burn through wood or thick plasic. Once the cherry reaches the brink of the butt - it dies. And it may die out on it's own. If the cig hits a flamable object - that's a differant story.
