wouldn't just super gluing the tape measure or something be a lot easier than doing all the drilling and stuff?

@catgodess71 Actually, not really. It might hold for a little bit but you will have to continually glue them back together. There are many reasons glues fail to bond 2 pieces of metal but biggest one in this case is that the Super glue dries hard with no flexibility and as the 2 different metals flex the glue losses hold.
