I've been studying history and theology for the past 5yrs..so i think I have a slightly better idea. The Ramayana and Mahabharata are mythologies and not holy books (if you are mentally competent enough to pick the difference). The bhagvad gita is a part of Mahabharata where Krishna schools Arjuna on the importance of performing ones duty. It is not a holy book either (who ever told you that is incorrect).

Then they look for evidence to either support that hypothesis, or it's negation. One would only call it "mumbo jumbo" if he didn't understand the theory, or the scientific method. I've been studying history and theology for the past 5yrs..so i think I have a slightly better idea. The Ramayana and Mahabharata are mythologies and not holy books (if you are mentally competent enough to pick the difference). The bhagvad gita is a part of Mahabharata where Krishna schools Arjuna on the importance of performing ones duty. It is not a holy book either (who ever told you that is incorrect).
The VEDAS were the basis for the indian society in the pre islamic era.
