really cool vid. but usually when you see a scoreboard like that where it's 4-6 4-6 in favor of your opponent and 7-6 7-6 in favor of you, USUALLY, it's unlikely you win the match.
how unfortunate for Roger, but what a legendary match.
i still shiver everytime i see federer saving that match point during that epic tiebreak. just unbelievable how he maintains his calmness during such an important point.
i still don't know why people keep targeting his backhand and refer to it as a weakness. his "weakness" is better than most "strengths" of other players on the circuit. he reversed the 2009 2nd tie-breaker and the match against roddick when down 2 - 6 with a flick of the wrist backhand when the ball bounced a foot away from his foot, to send the ball for a crosscourt winner over the net which had roddick reaching into thin air. no-one else is capable of pulling that off. not even nadal.
not the best match ive ever seen, not by a long shot, but i still cannot believe federer lost it he came back and was so close in the final set. typical fucking nadal.
i will say this though, this is about as much as i can bear to watch of this match now, its just too sad to watch anymore. i will never watch the full match again, i will never watch match point again, i will never watch any after match interviews again or on court scenes after the match. just breaks my heart to pieces
@radioxxflyer I Think the best quote I herd from about that match from the view of federer fans(me included) was:
" I can take the despair. It's the hope I can't stand" (john clease qoute).
For me that summed it up, I could take roger losing in straight sets in the 3rd, I had resigned that to fate almost, but then he went and did this in the tie-break, and got everyone thinking he was gonna win!!! thanks roger, you almost made me kill myself, but I wouldnt have it any other way :)
i've been watching tennis for 40 years...you've got to tell me what i've missed, because i have NEVER seen anything that comes remotely close to federer vs nadal wimbledon 08...it is the best match of all time, as far as i'm concerned. it had everything..2 champions putting it all on the life and playing a level of tennis, under immense pressure, never seen before..
@AlphaDraconis7 Personally I see your view, the match had everything you could wish for, quality, drama etc. But I do feel there were higher quality matches than this. Nadal Federer rome 06, federer safin AO 05, federer sampras 01, sampras agassi 01, a match that gets forgotten, Roddick Elenouyi AO 03, maybe less quality but unbelieveable to watch. IMO fed diddnt really turn up until half way through that match........
@AlphaDraconis7 ..........so thats why for me other matches like the nadal verdasco or kolschriber roddick matches had a higher quality of ball striking, becasue gennerally, nadal makes federer worse with his style of play. I think the first 4 sets of AO 09 between the two were unbelievable better quality that this match, but this match ment more to the history of the game, so I dont disagree, but dont fully agree
@Jamus182 X-lent points u make.. I loved this match and the drama and the quality was good but if u watch the AO 09-finals first 4 sets it is actually a quite big difference in quality. I guess that it is actually easier to play high quality matches on hardcourt but nevertheless AO is a better match.
Tennis played on hard-courts generally look a bit more entertaining, but it's only because of the surface, as grass is a lot more challenging to play on. In my opinion, the quality in this match was just as high as it was at AO2009. It just doesn't look like so, because, like I said, the grass does not allow for the same kind of flamboyancy in terms of play...
@jaitock1991 and that was exactly my point.. that is why u play 2 tournaments/year on grass and a hell lot more on hardcourts because we get to see better matches.. But of course, u got a point
@Flashswede you also just cant play as many tournaments on gras, because of it´s wear.
Gras is so sensible and it takes such a lot of work to make it that good playable. i just think that a lot of clubs, ( i mean how many are there out of traditional england? 3 or less big ones? ) dont want to have this trouble which isn´t for free either
Can you believe it ? after a point like that from nadal... ONLY ROGER FEDERER has the power to produce a hot of this brilliance. Only the hand of god can do it.
I am a Federer fan and I would have loved it if Federer had won this match. But at the the end when I thought about this entire match,I felt that justice had been done.I mean how would have Nadal felt if he had lost this match after coming so close!!Losing a match after two championship points would have been much more cruel than what happened to Federer. And by the way Federer did salvage this loss by winning the French open and wimbledon this year!So i guess everything is fine for him really.
Man this video is still one of the best Federer videos I have ever seen !!!Federer with an unbelievable backhand passing shot down the line - that too with Nadal having a match point!!!!That's what Federer is all about. That is exactly the edge which he has over other good players like Murrray , Djokovic etc.He responds unbelievably under pressure. That backhand passing shot is probably the best backhand shot of all time given the circumstances!!!!

It took me some time to find out that it was a second serve by fed on his set point. Good editing by swissgenius. There seems to be no disruption in the sound.
That backhand down the line was utterly gorgeous, however. And the fact that it's a confidence shot *and* he hit it to save a championship point makes it all the more amazing.
when nadal won the 2nd set a part of me wanted federer to lose the 3rd quickly cos i was like, man if you win this set and start giving me hope and dont end up winning it ill never forgive you...
i will neva rly forgive him for getting passive at 7-7
i know what you mean but i wanted him to win a couple sets ina really dominating style like he can sometimes, so they could fight for the 5th quickly, i dont if he got passive at 7-7- cus i think the writing was already on the wall, in terms of energy and quality, but how he couldn't just the get the job done after being abreak up or having break points or sumthin,in that set il never know.
federer was the better player in sets 3, 4 and 5, until 7-7. and then he missed a lot of important shots when he had deuce. the most painful memory was the last time he had deuce in that game and he played the point well, got the ball he wanted from nadal, had the court open for the forehand down the line....and hit the tape! but the killer is the last game of the match, at 8-7 they both played a terrible game, nadal played crap and could have been broken back if federer just played average.

seems i did the right thing back then. when federer lost the 2nd set i just went to a swimming pool and got back for the last game. that way it didnt hurt so much to see him loose this shit
nah m8, i can see your not a true tennis fan then, indeed he did lose overall but i wouldn't trade the two sets he won for anything, when its live and you see the way he wins the 4th set tie break, there's absolutely nothing in the world that can match it, its why sports so gr8 and why i love it.
