The plot of the book has been changed slightly but that's no bad thing as the original plot did wander about a bit.
Ralph Brown, ('Danny' from 'Withnail and I') as Sutton was an inspired casting choice, I didn't recognise him at first, he looked and sounded so familiar but I just couldn't place where I'd seen him before. Then about halfway through something just clicked.
I've been reading Ken Bruen for about 10 years now , ever since I picked up a second hand copy of 'Rilke On Black' so I was looking forward to this adaptation with interest and I'll have to admit, a little trepedation.
Were they going to make a total balls of it?
The Verdict:- Excellent. Iain Glen nails the role of Jack Taylor, the intelligence, the cynicism, the sense of humour, the humanity and the drinking. It could have been very easy to sanitize Jack's boozing, congrats for leaving it in.
Thanks for the comments and praise, will pass it on. I agree, very well done and full compliments to all the team at Magma Productions, they did a great job I think.
Nicely paced story telling and the backdrop of Galway City was excellent and looked really well. Iain Glen really did nail Jack Taylor as you say, perfectly brought the character to life.
Seen it for the 2nd time on tv3 last night. Loved it! The scene with Jack and his mother after the lost weekend is pure gold!!!!!!
