I've read and heard they are carnivores, but my younger american ferrets, and my girlfriends older (and much bigger) canadian ferrets have never even seemed to want to harm another animal (besides when they are fighting for dominance). Doesn't feeding ferrets live prey make them pretty vicious? I would have fed him a pre-killed animal, this just seems so unnecessary. The only animal I would feed live rodents to is a snake because they kill their prey much more quickly and efficiently.

Yes, I believe you should introduce them to live feeders before 4 months old! They will learn what's good for them - whole meat and fat! I have rescued so many that were into the bad stuff - Cheese puffs and banana chips instead of a good kitten food at a minimum or formulated ferret food! I'd recommend giving a ferret a feeder mouse every week from a very early age! I currently have one that would rather eat banana chips than anything else - Not good! I may give her one a day. Max!

@Narutosims123 Ok but its your own ferret but i want to tell you if your having a girl ferret you need to breed with them if they get 9 monts if you dont do it she will bleed to dead and a man ferret doesent need to do annything i had 2 ferrets but i tell you it is much work they poo verry much and dont feed them cold mouse's you can better feed them live mouses becuz they need to play little bit with it and than kill it

@kibacomic123 Live rats are a staple in any ferret's diet. Feeding it the mass- produced crap you call ferret food would be like feeding it nothing but mcdonalds food. It's not healthy for them at all. And they instinctively play with their food before eating it.

@exitre Yes. Rats can be fierce fighters and can even kill a ferret. Feeding anything larger than a mouse live is a risk to the ferret's safety.

Yes, I believe you should introduce them to live feeders before 4 months old! They will learn what's good for them - whole meat and fat! I have rescued so many that were into the bad stuff - Cheese puffs and banana chips instead of a good kitten food at a minimum or formulated ferret food! I'd recommend giving a ferret a feeder mouse every week from a very early age! I currently have one that would rather eat banana chips than anything else - Not good! I may give her one a day. Max!

Nothing deserves a death so slow. Heck, my Patchouli was a feeder rat that I saved, she's one of the sweetest rats I've had. At least a mouse would've been killed faster... you shoulda started with that.

lol... you keep SMALL animals in cages because it is SAFER for them when there is no one around to keep an eye on them. unless you have a completely empty house with NOTHING for the SMALL animal to get into that can HURT them... which i doubt is ever the case.

some animals dont NEED the kind of space and exercise that others do.

also do you know what happens to most animals that dont have homes? they are killed. nothing to protect them. if people dont take them in and shelter them and keep them as an extra little furry family member they will all be killed. people are so against keeping animals in zoos. but its just stupid.. lions are already going extinct in the wild. eventually the only ones left will be the ones in captivity. but at least they wont ALL be gone.. would YOU rather them not exist at all?

some animals NEED a good human to care for them and protect them from the other humans that want to hurt them... and the only way to do that is to keep them with you. most people care about their pets. animals are comforting and im sure we give them comfort in return. my kitty always runs to my lap when the vacuum is on. cause she knows it cant hurt her while shes with me :) anyways. thats MY point. im done.

And as for dog's we aren't normal prey by any means either.Dog attacks on humans with the exception of police,military and protection dogs doing their jobs are ENTIRELY the fault of the humans involved.
