My experience has been more trouble with a Chevy truck on the first 50 thousand than I had running over 50 thousand miles with a Ford. I drive over boulder size rocks on mountain trails, thunder through boulder strewn rivers and launch through ravens with a Ford and didn't have to realign the front end until 150,000 miles. Thats what I call "Built Ford tough". Don't see many chevy's around here. Well I take that back, I see a few parked in the weeds.

Look at the power outputs for 70-80 v8s.. it's significantly lower than the 60s. because of the oil crisis. ask anyone.

You're right. The 60's - earlie 70's had the best engines for when it comes to power. But thats not to say that any old engine produced after those years were crap. All those old engines (50 - 80) can, and have been built for "more power". It's easy as fuck compared to the engines of today (as in, any regular guy could build a chev 350 up to high performance standards. where as with the newer engins, if you're not a mechanic.. good luck!). But it wasn't just power I was talking about..
