  • if your in hell Larry im surer its a better place

    god bless you xxx

  • Larry appeared one Sunday at The Winter Gardens Margate in 1972, halfway through his act he appeared to be going off for a drink, when suddenly Rod Hull and Emu appeared and that was the start of an hilarious Double Act that on the night was so unexpected it was unbelievable. Incredibly funny they both appeared at the same venue the following year 1973 and broke all records

Im lucky to have seen him live

Larry was so funny, simple as that

Appealed to everyone. We will never see his like again

  • This guy was a pure gem, I only wished I had seen him live, thanks for the memories Larry love ya Tigg

  • Watched Dustin Gee;s brilliant impression of him and thought of how much I loved Larry and growing up with him on telly - RIP

  • What is all this about Larry in Heaven? This life is the only life we have - lets make the most of it. Thanks for listening.

  • Well I wish I had Meet Larry Before he Passed away, any one that did meet him personally is greatly honoured..... RIP Larry you are missed very much... "shut that Cloud"

  • I met Larry in Nuneaton while I was doing some presenting work for a major company. I gave him a tea shirt that he liked which thrilled him to pieces. He was one of the nicest celebrities I have ever met. He was so genuine and warm. A comic genuis.

  • old poofter, :-)

  • @cooking23 now now he was a brilliant comic you say that cos you wanna try a man? or not?

  • @Robby334 no thanks, just pointing out something, OK!

  • @cooking23 Dont be so negative lol, a great comedian, and loved by many..

  • @Tony70504 not being negative, it was a joke, i grew up watching this man....

  • You can see he was getting old and tired by this stage.

  • He made so many people happy, the gates of heaven must've been open to him!!!

  • Larry left 'em laughing!! There must be a lot of laughter in heaven, with Tommy Cooper, Bob Monkhouse, Eric Morecambe and Kenny Everett up there as well!

  • There's not enough Larry clips on here, please keep them coming!

  • God bless you Larry!! A comedy genius, sadly missed.

  • cool

  • one of a kind,wonderful.

  • A comedy genius....a legend that worked his way to the top.

  • legend

  • Larry was something very special. He came down to Devon once to do a charity opening and some of the organisers told me that he was the gentlest and funniest man they had ever met. As Ken Dodd said : "He loved everybody and he wanted them to love him in return and yes, they did, they all loved Larry".

  • I saw him in `the grayson scandals` with Noel Gordon at the Palladium complete with a vintage car , really good show. he was the best at the generation game , I think he enjoyed it as much a the contestants which endeared him to people

  • I thought Larry got better as he got older.

I'm one of a few that actually thinks he was better at the Generation Game than Brucie..but really I suppose he just did it his warm and sensitive way.

  • Larry was unbelievably funny. He was in Summer Season in my home town, Margate along with Rod Hull and Emu in 1973.Packed houses every performance.( All ages) We will never see that again !!

Off stage, so kind , genuine and unnasuming.

So skilled to get his type of humour across in a completely innoffensive way that appealed to everyone.

IMO,no one comes close to him, before, since or ever will. A complete understatement to say we will never see his like again.

  • @dw69ful You are so right! We will never see his like again!

  • Larry is alive and kicking!!!!!!!!

I saw him in CHESTER MARKET last saturday. He has a stall near the Forum entrance, near the fabrick stall, he sells meercats and such like, all garden thingys. I did ask for his autograph and a photo, and he didn't charge a penny.

So people get your self down to Chester and say a big hi to Larry!!!!!!!!!!

    See you there.

  • Larry's chair is in Nuneaton museum!

  • funny and warming

  • Great performer and still missed he made being gay extremely funny innuendoes a veritable institution along with dear old Slack Alice.

  • @stuarttootell Larry wasn't actually gay, he was asexual.

  • He was a lovely man - one of the nicest, most genuine people you could ever hope to meet.

    Very sadly missed!

  • Totally unique . We will never see his like again. larrys version of the generation game was one of the funniest things that I have ever seen

  • Larry Grayson's Generation Game was not missed once in our household. And of course any other chat shows he guested on.

  • God, he looks really old here. Look at the back of his hands 2:12 !!!

  • More Larry please, His comic timing is absolute genius.

    Sadly missed.

  • just been watching your new DVD , Larry you are so missed what a British treasure you are Bless you were ever you are X

  • Still being watched, still being appreciated after all this time! The word 'lovely' is used a lot here and mirrors how I remember him from my youth.

Gentle comedy, (great asides to camera),his take on everyday tales, that people could relate to, very funny! My favourite: (paraphrased by Yarwood): "he's anyone's for a tin of beans!".....you are much missed Larry......regards to Slack and Everard! ;)

  • Yes, was in the audience - was a surprise appearance and much appreciated - shame he had to warm up Dame Shirley! Larry - much missed

  • Omg, I loved Larry back in the 70's, he was on TV a lot in thoes days, he would have me in stiches, camp as a row of tents but such great entertainment.....Well missed, such a nice guy.....They dont make em like him anymore....... Rest in peace Larry.

  • Poor Larry... They don't make them like him anymore... Entertainment was so much better in those days - and so was its Stars...

  • anyone else think larry looks like freddie mercury?

  • No.

  • We all adored Larry in our house in the 70's and 80's. Darling man - so missed.

  • leeds manager

  • A wonderful and humble man.

  • Your absolutely right ! A true Gentleman in every sense and a Brilliantly compassionate guy ... Makes me smile just to think of him !!

  • Oh bless! He looked so frail and vulnerable, but he still had it.

  • Can someone here tell me how old Larry was when this was recorded?

  • Yes, being gay is so bad - thank god I am gay in 21st Century

  • Just makes you smile.

gentle suggestion is far funnier than it being shoved in your face.

  • got this dvd yesterday

its priceless well worth the money

  • Larry Grayson was a great and hard-working performer, and an exceptionally funny man. Larry we miss you!!!

  • Oh I remember Larry saying about a fellow gay performer who was nice to Larry hes alright love but he would turn up for the opening of a tin of salmon I think the person has recently died so I think you know who I am on about Hilarious Lal.

  • A real person lovely warm and generous to all. My friend knew him very well what you saw was what you got even Bernard Manning had nowt bad to say about him, GOD BLESS LARRY YOUR STILL MISSED.

  • Yes, at long last, a DVD of loads of Larry's work being released...oh joy... I see it's available at a few different places, different prices too...but l can't advertise one of the sites here...private message me if you want details of under 17 pounds sterling...

  • A real star

  • Thanks for posting. A gentle man much missed.

  • Thanks for posting :-)

  • I loved Larry, gentle way funny with his act, being a lovely person it showed through. Larry was loved by many you felt you knew him personally. Its so sad he is no longer here , I watched this clip on tv, and thought how unwell he looked but as funny as ever, thanks for this posting, my friend knew Larry very well and has told me some wonderful tales which I must post on here, thanks for this lovely posting.

  • i met larry grayson at the laural and hardy convention in the hilton hotel los angeles , really lovely man , he was a true legend ,

  • We Miss you man.

    God bless RIP.

  • Lovely, lovely man. I miss you Larry

  • badddadd2001 has a point about Frankie Howerd's act (truly original at the time), but Larry added his own charm, had a much more natural delivery and was infinitely better at dealing with the unexpected (compare Frankie on What's My Line with Larry's Generation Game). I remember this final performance too and it blew everything else away. A hugely underrated performer.

  • we miss you larry x

  • What a darling man and much missed. He had such a gentle demeanour which added to his comedy. Lovely Larry ...

  • Darling Larry.

  • First time seen this guy. Hes great, i dig the dude.. Some great gags.

  • Its about time a statue was put up in his home town dedicated to this man. And he should be given a proper TV tributes.

  • A Genious!!!!!

  • What an absolute legend :D

  • Today's camp comics: Julian Clary, Alan Carr, Graham Norton (OK so he's not really a comic but...) owe so much to Larry for being the first (he was doing his act well before even Kenneth Williams was famous). As a gay teenager I sat flushed with embarrassment through The Generation Game every Saturday but loving every minute of him. God bless you Larry!

  • Larry Grayson (21 August 1923 7 January 1995)

A Treasure to Nuneaton. maybe one day they will Do whats right by him and erect a monument in his honor.

"Shut that door!"...."What a gay day!"..."Seems like a nice boy...!"

From all that remember how kind you were to us Bedworth folk as well as Nuneaton folk. RIP...

  • What a STAR!!!!

  • used to live next door to his aunt winnie in pershore in the 70's, larry used to come in his pink rolls royce very often, was a great man always made u feel welcome, sit in his car take u round the block in it, great great man

  • Great comic timing. When he took on the Generation Game no-one gave him a hope in hell, but he increased the audience significnatly over Brucie's top rating (fact). I first saw him in an ITV show called "The Saturday Crowd" and thought, as a young lad, how funny he was. He did an Anglia TV dating thing called "Sweethearts" and carried the last episode in floods of tears as he didnt want it to end because "everybody has been so nice to me".

This clip shows a sad end to an underated career.

  • Dear Larry

  • Smashing Guy.

    RIP Mate.

  • What a star! Bless him.

  • How Very Lovely ! What a great camp as tits (i mean that in the+... i was only a kid when my folks used to watch him, but i didnt get it,yunno didnt understand, oh but now what a funny funny bloke, god bless you Larry !

  • i have the possibility of purchasing his last car he ever owned, a metalic grey saab 9000 turbo, untouched since 1995, larry never driven it himself but he used to have a driver called robert carbut, what do you think the car is worth ?

  • Did you buy the Saab? Lovely guy, my father was such a sod I always liked Larry Grayson for taking the piss out of the male persona. RIP.

  • We miss him.

  • Well said mancunian, i want the word Gay back without anyone thinking raving slushter.

  • What a gent! I wish he was alive today, a true comedy genius!

    Larry the king of comedy

  • i know a man that met larry on a car park in wolverhampton many years ago and what a gentleman he was, i wished id have met him may his ledgend live on forever

  • Great comedian, his act was so simple yet so original.Really loved watching him, though obviously he wasn't well when doing this.

    Sadly missed.

  • shut that door

  • What a star.

  • Lovely man, great humour, ottoracin u must be very proud of him!

  • Larry Grayson was a very funny, courageous, and generous man. He loved his craft, his fans and Judy Garland.

He was also my uncle bill.

  • Really lovely to see this again. A brave and gentle man that did far more than he knew.

  • What a wonderful sight! Thank you so much for posting this

  • I remember watching this - there was no announcement before he walked on - he hadn't been seen for years. He passed away just months after. What class, he wanted to say thankyou and goodbye - he received a standing ovation. You cant learn talent like that from some private drama school of mediocrity - a true original.

  • I think Larry knew it would be a 'swan song' appearance, - it must have been difficult for him to get through it - he was not at all well at the time.

A kind and gentle spirit - many thanks Larry !

  • great / when did he pass away

  • funny stuff

  • What a lovely clip, Larry was a real gem, nice in real life no big Iam about him. The Gay Rights trouble was a none starter without Larry you would not have had all the current Gay stars who will have to go along way to be as loved as Larry was A LEGAND.

  • Good old Larry, we loved you. You will be greatly missed. Marc cxxx

  • I'm sorry but this is just a complete copy of Frankie Howerd's act from 20 years before

  • I remember him being quite different from other folk on the tv when he emerged in the early 70's. And I remember too the affection that all ages of people I knew had for him. For although he was a bit odd, he was an entertainer, and original. You couldn't help but like him. To do that through the medium of the old cathode ray was cool, and, as it turns out, the reward of 30 years of graft, perfecting his craft.

  • He was as funny and as nice off the stage as he was on. A wonderful performer, sadly missed.

  • We love you larry.

  • aww bless, he has a tear at the end when he says shut that door, he is one of my fave entertainers :)

  • An absolute star and one of my all time heroes

  • does anyone know what age he was and year he died plz ?

  • Born 21st Aug 1923, died 7th Jan 1995 aged 71.

  • An excellent performer and very sadly missed.

  • legend! only one Larry!

  • Brilliant. Sadly missed x

  • Larry, you were THE MASTER. We'll never forget you.

  • Its a shame the gay rights people gave him a lot of trouble at the time of the generation game - in theory had i been old enough i would have too... but the man was so obviously a lovely bloke, funny and had a face that showed he'd had his ups and downs - how could u possibly not like him.

  • Great to see Larry again. I'm lucky to have several of his Gen Games on tape - I'll never throw them away. Paul O'Grady & Graham Norton - watch the master here at work - THIS is how it should be done! Thanks for sharing!

  • are you going to post the Gen Game clips on Youtube?

  • @Robby334

Hi Robby, I did try to post a comment on this video but it didnt work.

I wanted to tell people that Larry has a double, I saw him on saturday in CHESTER MARKET, inside the Forum entrance, behind a farbrick stall, he was sweet and let me take a picture and he signed my book. Very nice man, I just wanted to tell others so that thay can go say hi.

Thanks for the vidio, its ace!!!!!!!!!

  • I hope to see some of the Gen Games shared for all to appreciate

  • A wonderful man and one of the best entertainers and comedians Britain has ever produced. Sadly missed. Without Larry there would be no Paul O'Grady and the likes.

  • Thanks for posting that, it brought a tear to my eye

  • I think he brought the chair on to lean on .... shame. He was great..

  • The chair had actually been part of his act from the beginning of his career. Every so often during a performance, he would quickly swap the chair from one side of him to the other and say "let's have a change of scenery", something so simple yet so original and funny is a show of true comic genius. He does this here at 3:30 secs. Look at some of his early work and you'll see him doing this. A pure artist, a very kind man, sadly missed.

  • Excellent performer.

  • it must be so odd to think that you're leaving the stage for the last time.

  • That was brilliant. I have never seen this before until now. Larry was a legend. I really would like a biography to come out of him.

  • Larry was one of the funniest people whoever lived! I wish UKGold would show his Generation Game programmes again!

I bet Slack Alice and Everard know when they're next on!

  • There will never be another he was and still is a legend. Sadly missed - phill

  • Larry's nephew, Mike Mallon, was once said to be writing a biography of Larry but nothing has ever emerged and to-date no biography has ever been written on him and the tenth anniversary of his death in 2005 was only marked nationally by a Radio 4 documentary called "Seems Like A Nice Boy", with BBC TV not doing anything at all.

Great video this, please post more :)

  • Larry Died at home in Nuneaton in early 1995 from a burst appendix. He had been treated a few days before in hospital and as I recall had been operated on for an appendix problem but sadly it ruptured a few days after being sent home and that was the end of a great entertainer. I understand he didn't die on his own as a friend was with him at home at the time.

  • I was told he died on stage doing a live performance

  • No. That was Tommy Cooper; in 1984.

  • how did he die?

  • I think Larry died of an acute appendicitis but im not that sure

  • Well done Robby. What a marvellous clip.

It's often easy to forget just how talented Larry was. Let's hope more comedy gems like this emerge in the future.

    Thanks for posting it.
