  • wow this interpretation sounds like a cold sun....

  • @kaizatsu of course , cold sun = bullshit

  • MARVELOUS PERFORMANCE! Everyone LOVES you Adam Lambert! Great Vocals! <3

  • This was good but I don't think this is what Sam Cooke meant when saying "A change gon come"...

  • Sam Cooke is rolling in his grave .....

  • I'll be honest im not an Adam Lambert fan..after he pledged that "ROCK" was his favorite genre by far...but then he comes out with this VERY pop/dance album with the exception of a couple of songs on his album......BUT....He did an Amazing job with this Sam Cooke song!

  • lol paula abdule what a mess

  • This sucks! Rock gitarrs on a Soul classic...Fuck TV!

  • Fa boludo, se re fue al carajo.

  • i love YOU ADAM. YOU ARE AMAZING. IT IS SO BEAUTIFUL

  • Sad when a person is singing a song title a change is gonna come and there is still, racist and judgmental comments. SMH!!!

  • johnny keyser did much better with this song

  • Damn! Boy nailed it. He ain't Black, but he seems to 'get' the universality of prejudice.

  • i don't hear the soul in his voice, good performance but the pain isn't there. mario sang it

  • @Beetwate305 if that last note doesn't show pain and emotion I dunno what does.

  • @CoolBreezeMusic7

last note? last note? you base a performance off of one note? get out of here

  • why on USA people speak so much about black and white people? its so rare xD

  • so glad you didn't win adam i don't think would of seen much of you! you have done more vids then i forgot the guy who won which clearly shouldn't of its not a look good contest but love you adam!

  • I am officially impressed!

  • Damn... Tears were almost flowing out on my face... Words don't exists to describe his voice... Was shiverin' till the spine... ! This is why i want to sing with my soul and let the feelings invade my body and my music... He's an amazing singer !

  • @TheGuitaristWhoRock i was crying... lol he is so inspiring

  • people who've disliked this, just jealous cause they cant cant rip a song like that!!!!!

  • six60 versions waay beta .!!

  • it was ok but nowhere near sam cook just not enough soul in it sry

  • I agree ... This isn’t about Adam’s sexual preferences nor does it equate with how good he sings the song. He can sing and does an implausible undertaking of the song.

Those that scrutinize his sexual preferences are simply obtuse.

  • Dear people.

Stop being fucking idiots, he can sing this song and still give it meaning. Who gives a flying fuck if he's gay? He's still amazing and talented in every way!

People need to change and accept the gays!

  • THAT GUY KILLED THAT SONG!

  • @ALIX160 you got to be kidding...he trashed it made it look cheap, especially on American idol...this song is sacred man!! how dare a white man sing this!

  • @johnlennon1970

YOU gotta be kidding..."How dare a white man sing this!" Did you know that Sam Cooke wrote this after being inspired by hearing Bob Dylan's song "Blowin' in the Wind"? If you REALLY believe in racial equality, you'd be thrilled to hear that a white man is singing a song about racial injustice against blacks.

  • too bad hes gay.

  • @MegaFrosty3k you are an ignorant fuck. Who the hell cares if he is gay, he just killed this shit, grow up and start realizing that people are people.

  • BRAVO BRAVO......Love this baby... Madame Brown gurl dj down hurr in Texas...Nuthin else I can say......

  • Adam fucked it up.

  • Why can't a white person sing this song? This song is not about black struggle, its about all of our struggles and the hope of change, read between the lines......

  • WONDERFUL VERSION, TOO BAD HE DIDN'T DO THE WHOLE SONG. A BEAUTIFUL GIFT ADAM.

  • This is a wonderful interpretation of a great song. Adam Lambert is an amazing singer.

  • fuckin lame. sam and otis would be turning in their graves knowing some screamo punk faggot is singing an opression song

  • Hey paula is drunk again...

  • people say he made this song better, no one can make the original "a change gonna come" better

  • He sounds like aretha franklin lol

  • @mikeybtheone At first I thought that too, but his pain is evident. Even though he's white you feel it a change needs to come his pain is the same pain that you feel in Sam Cooke's version injustice is injustice homophobia is no less painful than racism so I think he's qualified to sing this. He sung the HECK outta that song.

  • @baadgirl78 I agree to a degree but you're taking that comparison a bit too far. I also think it's really unfortunate how much a prisoner of the moment we can be. As well as he sings it , it will never touch me the way the original does. You hear the original and it easily brings a tear to your eye, this was well done but is a clear contrast of its predecessor. Good, maybe even great, but on the same level as Sam Cooke, c'mon people, keep it in perspective.

  • @mikeybtheone

Does that also mean that no black artists should sing songs that are written by white people?.. Are you saying you're a racist? How about Billie Holiday's classic, "Strange Fruit"? That was one of the most poignant songs about racism ever written... Billie sang it, but it was WRITTEN by a white, Jewish school teacher. Open your eyes, man... Black, white, yellow... we've all got the same, human heart beating in our chest.

  • "100% back in the game.." Is that it?! Simon you are emotionally dead

  • i dont care wat ppl think but adam lambert is the best singer out there.... hes gay but that doesnt make a difference on his talent... hes better than alot of artist out there

  • i dont like this version

  • Some things should just be left alone. Just because someone has vocal range doesn't mean they need to try and squeal out a classic for a gameshow popularity contest. It did not wow me, it just reminded me how good the original is and how much current popular wanna-be's need to go in order to express genuine artistic soul in their music, not the slick imitation we are now being accustomed to. Not a true soulster but a talented poser.

  • @amontes77 fuck yeah, ur spot on.

  • THIS MANS PERFORMANCE IS MY FAVORITE NEXT TO MY PRECIOUS BEATLES HEY JUDE WITH THE BEATLES LIVE AND PAUL ON PIANO. THIS WAS MY VERY FAVORITE PERFORMANCE OF ADAMS. THIS MAN IS SO TALENTED THERE ARE NO WORDS TO DESCRIBE! IM AMAZED AND ADORE HIM. I WEAR HIS TEE SHIRT PROUDLY. WHEN I WANT TO HEAR SOMETHING SPECIAL I WATCH HIIM SING THIS SONG,,,ITSNOT ENOUGH JUST TO HEAR IT, BECAUSE HE IS SO PERFECT TO WATCH, IM JUST IN AWE. WHY HE DIDNT WIN OUTRAGES ME! NO QUESTION HANDS DOWN SHD HAVE WON! ILUVADAM

  • I'm still pissed he didn't win....

  • They are suppose to change the arrangement of every song they sing on stage , WTF guys, give the guy credit he put so much effort into it and it is amazing period

  • Damn....that was AMAZING!!!

  • Go on Adam. Sang on, Sang on my brother.

    PS: Solomon or Sheba.

  • ....He can sing AND he's cute ;p

  • the Flame does not go out, it just rekindles, such as in this man's soul! Amen.

  • What a amazing tribute to a man gone to soon.So glad these young people recognize the great artists of the 50's...and remember them today.Sam Cooke, Otis Redding, RIP

  • I'm not saying this was a bad performance, but had I not known it was a soul song from Sam Cooke (a black guy), I would have thought it was a soft rock song, or something along those lines from a white person. He put too much rock into it, and not enough soul. But that is my opinion.

  • WOW...... good voice or WHATT...THUMBS UP HIGH

  • Kris who???

  • HOLY SHIT!!!!!!!! WOW!!!!!!!!!!!

  • im not sure i like adams version. hes a great singer, and hes obviously paying tribute by playing the song, but sam cookes version is so smooth and classy. this is no where close to that

  • I'm black, and I say ADAM KILLED THIS!! Man this might be my favorite version behind Sam Cooke....might even be up there with it...GEEZ...I think some people are jealous Adam killed it better than their favorite black artists haha

  • @ConcreteRoseCJ i would agree with that if it wasn't for r kelly version

  • @ConcreteRoseCJ you are white don't lie

  • @ConcreteRoseCJ

your black card is revoked lol

  • @ConcreteRoseCJ Af if your black

  • @ConcreteRoseCJ WTF wrong with these white envious bastard, coming on here talking about "I AM BLACK" then went on to try patronize black people. The judging panel was so right not to flop their comments, but rightly said Adam was back in the race. That's only as good as it was...straining, shouting his ass off as if he wanted to have a shit!. I wouldn't be surprised to know that he walked off stage with poo in his trousers. He might had done the song more justice had he sung and not shouted.

  • Till this, i didn't think a ''white'' person, can sing this.

  • 61 persons are totally deaf!

  • No.

  • I am not black, i will say first off. But that has nothing to do with loving great music. Sam Cooke was is and will always be one of my favorite singers of all time. I played the original when i was a teen, on jukeboxes over and over. Now I love love love Adams version equally. The great song will be heard by a new generation. Thank god.

  • One of the best singers ever.

  • Damn he brought it!!

  • One of the most amazing, astounding, brilliant performances EVER!! Adam's voice is the one I want to hear again and again and his stage presence is second to none in my book! His voice moves me more than any other!

  • Amazing song. Amazing Voice

  • i check in youtube.it s one of the best vesion i heard

  • Yes Sam Cooke's version is the greatest and Otis and Aretha 's versions are incredible. This is my all time favorite song and Adam Lambert did it justice in his own way. Knocked it out of the park.

  • haha OMG really I just ran across this and ppl are STILL commenting??? ummmm you all know this was 2 1/2 yrs ago right? u ppl are crazy

and PS for all the outrage, he didnt pick this song it was picked for him by the producers and he was TOLD to sing it not that it matters but just saying

he just sang with Queen and all the Freddie fans were also freaked out no one can sing like him blah blah blah ya'll are ridiculous its fucking songs ppl SONGS hes not stealing the recipe to Coke

  • This is one of those uncoverable songs, no one can recreate the magic and passion that sam cooke istilled in this song, and for that reason this performance is rendered awful

  • Say Dawg, I mean Randy, shouldn't you be criticizing Adam for being inconsistent in his song choices?

(just dogging Randy, Adam was excellent)

  • A white guy singing a song about racism against Black America from the P.O.V. of a Black American. It's nice to see him step outside of himself to understand a peace of our history.

  • @Sovnarkom A song against OPPRESSION is what this is. When Cooke sang it, it was about the oppression of blacks. Adam sings it also from the soul...about the oppression of gay people.Everyone, and I mean EVERYONE should be FREE to be who they are.I adore Sam Cooke, Luther Vandross, Smokey, Bill Withers, Jackie Wilson & ALL black artists of the past. Now I can add Lambert to the list of artists that blow me totally away! And BEFORE Simon Fuller picked this song, Adam had sung it at Zodiac show! ;D

  • This is my favourite cover ever of Sam Cooke's song. Won't compare voices, won't compare talent, won't compare melodies because Cooke's song is Cooke's song but I must say, Adam Lambert's version is just beautiful. Amazing arrangement in my opinion. I absolutely love it.

  • TheDan9169 I agree that Sam Cooke did it awesome. I guess it's just a matter of opinion.

  • I like Sam Cooke's vioce alot better

  • when will my fellow singers understand that SCREAMING/SCREECHING is NOT singing? Even mariah carey stoped doing it. Jackie Wilson had the chops, didn't screech. Also, singing for a competition, performing to WIN a CONTEST is polar opposite than performing to express a meaning, a message. Viewers are just sheeple.

  • Damn, this Kat Ripped Dis Song!!!! Wow!!!!!

  • This guy can sing his ass off!!! It doesn't matter voice doesn't have a color or a gender or a sexual preference on it. If one can sing, one can sing. This guy is just absolutely, incredibly singing the crap out of this song.I believe he did a better job than the original Sam Cooke version. The soul in this guy is incredible.

  • @maurysmommy Incredible performance granted, but to suggest it is a better the Sam's original is very short-sighted. Mr Cooke was and always will be THE MAN!

  • Wow I must have missed this one, Sing it Adam !!! GAME ON is right love ya babe

That might have been even better then Mad World.

  • adam no's what the lyric means he an gay man im sure he lost because of that, so he;s sing about change for gays

  • Booooo!!!!! Booooo!!!! Boooo!!!!

  • Nice singer. But just like a few other young singers singing classic R&B. I just don't believe them when they sing the lyric. I think they show-off their vocal, what I like to call, 'busy-work', but there is a tremendous lack of substance here. Listen to the original. Listen to Sam Cooke. There is no comparison. Adam has a strong voice. But there is a lack of truth. It's just technique.

  • @LB9997 i actaully kno what you mean. and there is annother version of adam singing this song is i think like 2005 or something at the zodiac show. you can just feel every word its really powerful.

  • @LB9997 AMEN

  • His vocals are freaking scary here! Sends shivers down my spine EVERY time

  • @mmalik3011

    homophobe

  • rubbish! ViVa Sam Cooke!

  • kara is a great judge. better than Jlo...

    :]

  • Daaaaaaaaaaamn

  • A GOOD SINGER is a good singer and and comming from a proud black person the last time i checked having soul didnt have anything to do with skin tone

  • @88martyp if we use logic sayiong white people cant sing songs origninally sung by black people u are creating self restrictions not allowing black people to sing songs by white people and that not logical

  • @88martyp Well said. Sinatra and Davis Jr. different singers, but both with all the tickets.

  • Kara you are an idiot...."both sides of yourself?" Girl the dynamics in that song as delivered by Lambert are not two songs. It was a cornucopia, a rainbow of all the harmonic colors in the universe.

It was nice that Adam condescended to sing the nature study song you wrote (another night) but even Simon recognized it for what it was. Politicking. And Simon owns Kara like the puppeteer owned Howdy Doody.

  • @88martyp well and perfectly said! :)

  • @88martyp I LOVE YOUR SOUL. Thank you!! You have said it ALL. :D <3333333

  • @88martyp You could say it doesn't matter whether he's black or white? :smug:

  • He can sang tho

  • There's just something wrong about this guy singing the blues

  • You know what..... im a black man and i just want to say, sometimes man everything does not have to be black and white, i mean they say imitation is the highest form of flattery, i mean give the guy some credit in his own way of singing this song he did pretty good with the song, no his not sam cook and i dont think he was trying to be, but all in all it wasnt bad. gee weez people lightin up

  • @metoyu38 i think adam knew that this would happen. he sang black or white on top 13 or top 12. hahahaha

  • @metoyu38 I agree, I'm a working r&b drummer. One of the nicest comments for me was the bass player for The Family Stone and Bigfoot (drummer) from P-Funk coming up to me after a show we all played together and called me blue eyed soul brother. Made me laugh, because I don't really see color, and as a musician. I'd be feeling it and hearing it more than seeing it anyway. After we talked for a while and hung out, I realized how much of a compliment it really was especially coming from those guys.

  • @Jiggarelli Thats cool brother!

  • @metoyu38 I happen to be white, and you are absolutely on target. We will never grow up as a species until we look beyond color or hue, and live for what is in a person's soul and heart. Sam Cooke's music broke down barriers and it's up to the rest of us to live what we've learned.

  • Sure are a bunch of whiny asses commenting. I believe Simon picked the song and Adam did a really nice job singing it. But I guess only blacks have ever suffered.

  • I really cant believe he would sing this song it blows my mind, this is about the hatred people of color other than white have faced all throughout time not just the 1960s change is going to come, is a change from oppresion into freedome and to stop the brutality of this culture that was openly excepted...he spoke about segregation not about the gay nation, we were born with skin its inate, adam made a choice, he wants what a change in civil rights, sam wanted a change to be treated like a human

  • @nokidney09 WOW. I normally don't comment on this type of post but perhaps education is needed here. And this is coming from a person that is straight but has many gay friends in life that I feel deserve the same rights as straight folks. Now that educational info: In many countries gay people are put to death. In others being gay is illegal. In the US 29 states can fire you for being gay. So both humane treatment and civil rights are affected. His song choice is an appropriate anthem for both.

  • @nokidney09 Adam Lambert is gay and trust me they have faced some hatred too.

  • This sounds brilliant.

  • All of yall criticizing the fact that Adam cant relate to this song ever think that maybe he's relating it to the prejudice against gays (saying a change is gonna come for gays), not the hardships blacks face in America? I completely respect the original, it's magnificent. However, I dont think criticizing Adam for picking this song is necessary.

  • a white guy singing a song about the hardships of black america...yeaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa.....c'mon man...Sam Cooke was amazing, this dude did not do this song justice at all..he just hit high notes and generally overall sucked ass at trying to do this song justice. Should have picked a different song man..Leave the classic critically acclaimed tracks alone

  • @hxcmetalhead The song represents hardships period and Adam and other gays and other people who are being discriminate against in many ways can relate to this song.

  • never get tired of listening to Adam:)

  • @MRiitta I hate youtube. Just pressed the stupid vote down button by mistake and won't change -_-' sorry about that.

  • This guy lost after that rendition, unbelievable!!!!!

  • seriously, never really paid attention to idol before but when my family was watching this season i heard this guy sing and i was like wow..this is what the show needed this guy can sing and should of defiantly won

  • holy shit this guy gives me goose bumps!!!!!!

  • LMAO! Oh, you have to be a certain color to sing a song now? Wow, that is the lamest thing I have ever heard!! Sam Cooke would approve Adam's performance of this song, he'd probably give him a standing "O"!!! Because he totally KILLED IT!!!!! MUSIC IS FOR EVERYONE!!!!

  • I thought it was blody good and I think Sam cooke would approve

  • I am surprised that he can sing as well as he does. This song really showcases his abilities although im totally not a fan of this guy. Aside from that, nobody can fuck with Sam Cooke when it comes to vocals. Adam cant bring anything to the table here. There was such a haunting heartbreak in the original and the original pretty much DEFINES what "soul" is and should be. If anyone even remotely likes this version, listen to the real one and be BLOWN AWAY

  • @thefallingdream haha ok mate, it may be the original, and sam may relate to it more, but vocally no one can beat adam.

  • @3ku1 obviously you are partial to Adam and thats absolutely fine BUT....i could probably give you a list as long as my arm of singers who live or have lived before him that smoke him in all out vocal control, vocal manipulation, cleanliness, originality and overall raw ability spanning all genres. No one can beat him is a VERY bold statement.

  • @thefallingdream ok fine that is your opinion and I respect that, but I can name alot of music legends and experts, who have called Adam one of the best vocalists ever. Sure he is 2 years into his career, and alot of singers have come before him. Now about other singers who are supeior, freddie comes to mind. Adam has something not alot of the hard rockers of the past had, vibratio and head voice. His classical training has given him the ability to cover genres.

  • @3ku1 There are many Gospel artist that would blow Adam out of the water. But obviously they dont get the same exposure as secular artist. One artist you should look at is Tonex.

  • @TruthSeeka99 really? Why arent they current, why arent they famous? I hear this all the time, oh past singers weould blow adam on vocals, really? Maybe you just got to accept the fact when it comes to vocals adams up their with the very best. For years adam was an underground artist, without exposure that you refer too, its only the past few years he has been exposed.

  • Whoa....Wooooo....yea.....hauntingly beautiful !!

  • he's had a lot of vocal training

  • Listen to otis redding's version of this song!!! Now thats real music for your soul

  • I'm no a big Adam Lambert fan, but he was probably the most talented contestant the show has ever had.

  • im sorry if your not black, dont sing this fkn song...you wont be able to add enough soul to it.

  • @traiigeetv DONT BE THAT WAY. MUSIC IS FOR EVERYONE AND SOUL IS FROM THE EXPERIENCES YOU HAVE HAD. THIS WAS REALLY GOOD!

  • @tyllenium true ..... but this is not just a song, its an experience and unless yuve experienced or witnessed, you wont be able to put the true soul into it there was no passion in his voice he, was just "singin the lyrics" his way , she said the emotion he put into it -_- he was screamin it sounded like rock which is fine but tht song is not suppose to be sung tht way, and randy dumbass said its an R&B song, which shows what he knows. smh.

  • @traiigeetv I am old enough to remember when this song was popular by Sam Cooke. In fact I have the 45 single record of it still today. I truly believe Adam did a great job on it. He has the passion because he relates to it because he is gay and is fighting the same prejudices as the Civil Rights movement. He is constantly told he is not good enough, he can't get married, etc. Go listen to him sing this at The Zodiac Show and you might change your mind.

  • @adamluv1000 i agree, im nt sayin he sounds bad im just sayin the soul its attended to have cant be brought by him....which is fine, just makin a comment . theres a type of music called soul which sam did and this video is not in the soul genre , thats what i mean by soul. you can put your soul into a song andit not be soul. the way he sung it like some ppl have been sayin in the comments "he madeit sound very white" .

  • @traiigeetv oh dear, wonder how many times Elvis heard that very same thing. Please, just enjoy the artist not the package. 50 years down the road and still hitting the same road blocks, ableit for Adam, slightly different ones...but still just open your mind, your heart, and feel it.

  • @whytemyst32 he sounds fine in his own way, im just sayin tht song just isnt meant to be sung that way and he wont be able to sing it the right way .

  • It's been a long time, but had to come back here to see this...frickin' amazing!!! I just cannot wait for his 2nd album!!! I'm still playing the heck out of his 1st! I'm gonna have to buy another one soon or buy a new CD player for my car soon enough! Love everything about this man...noone compares! :)

  • i remember this

  • oh my goodness, I can't believe he just murdered my favourite song of all time - this is an insult to sam cooke's memory - sickening!

  • @xTheEndHasNoEndx Are you deaf, dear? That was the most amazing AI performance EVER! Wow. Sorry you're disappointed.

  • He did not sing it better than Sam but I dig Adam Lambert and he is a very very very underrated singer! He deff can hit some notes out of this world! I would love to hear him sing more of the classics for sure!!! Great arrangement too!

  • Still no beatin Sam Cooke

  • This is a great Performance by Adam Lambert. I'd buy the cd for sure, still waiting on his next one. Go Adam, do you thing.

  • not sayin this is a bad thing but he SOOOOO made it white.. lol!!! likk i say not sayin thts badd!
