Well actually, your shins get harder after all of this, it causes micro cracks in the bone, then heals up, and becomes stronger, after a while of consistently conditioning your shins over a long period of time, the shin bone can be as hard as rock.
whats really neat is when you kick for a while and take a quick rest...when the blood rushes to your shin and muscles it hurts less when you start back up. i use a 2 x 6 sticking out of the ground with padding on it to train with. it has a lot of flex so it works my muscles too.
In puertorico we kick bannana trees to harden are shins then take the next day or to to do weight lifting to let our shin heal and get harder then we do the proccess over
for you people to be here to learn how to train shins just make you kinda a begginer in mthai or totally no training in mt.so stop acting like you people are professional trainers or fighters hating on the people in the vid.makes you look so obnoxious-.-
@VMTNKKR what if we are amateur fighters, legitimately looking for a way to condition our shins...

Lol you're actually more likely to hurt yourself doing this. These guys aren't even kicking correctly to effectively condition their shins! Kick with your SHINS!
anyone who says this is not a good way to train your shins has obviously never trained muay thai at all ever. There are MANY ways to train your shins, and this is by far one of the best ways I have ever seen.
kickin a tire is hard you dumb fucks. its a little ghetto but alot of great fighters did grow up in rough places. look at thailand. probably atleast half the fighters are doing this for money, cuz theres no other choice;
to all who bitch about technique, you must be eating spicy horse dick with a side of illiteracy when you watched this video, the description explains that this video is not showing technique, it is simply introducing a training method for your consideration via example. Don't complain, if you disagree, then don't do it, if you agree, then thank the gents for being nice enough to share.
@saufi0601 when it comes to conditioning, slow and steady wins the race if you try to push your self too fast too early you are gonna end up hurting your self
This was a beautiful demonstration of how to get your shins up to speed. I like the soft tire routine, thats a very good way to start off. Fuck what anyone says here, they dont know about it or dont remember what it was like to start of with shin training. It sucks and hurts like crazy and STOPS you from thinking and commiting to ANY kick because the pain is SUCH a big distraction. I'm going to incorporate the tire thing, maybe wrap it in cloth so it doesnt yank hairs. GREAT WORK!! Keep it up!
@andremaritz yeah i recomend the bag that you fill wtih sand, its better to hit a target that wont move at all, like kicking a tree. i agree with you bro
Nice to use the tire to train your shins but i do not recommend doing this shin to shin ...thats not so good it only damage your shin and makes it more fragile.
For beginners start trying just on a punchbag then use the lower side of the punchbag and last using a tire. Do not try harder objects only to measure your strenght.
what are those sock like things on your ankle? I haven't been using them, I kick the bottom third of a 100 pound punching bag (canvas material) and it used to scratch up my shin real bad, but ive got used to it. Do you think I'm on the right track?
Those are called ankle supports. I bought them to keep away bruises and scratches from my shin. And they really do a great job. They don't really soften anything but i also find them supporting me up on my toes.
@tlegs8960 do you think your gonna get your shin every time! lol you should only be using the lower shin and instep and OF COURSE in a fight your not gonna get the shin everytime!
@tlegs8960 muay thai kick with the end where the foot meets the shin, boran you hit with wherever, shines were used more though, muay thai has harder kicks thought because they are focused and not instinctive
@tlegs8960 You should still condition the top of your foot, if you miss a kick and hit a knee or a hard shin your foot may not only break but will hurt like hell!
@tlegs8960 its his insteps hes using.cant really see from the ankle thingy hes using.and in mthai you use shins for close range and insteps for longer range kicks sometimes to the head.its really strong with solid joints.like the knees and elbows
this stuff is all good for building up and conditioning your shins for impact when you are young, but it will kill you when you are older. you may not be able to walk. i recommend you concentrate on learning proper techniques of modern martial arts, not just body training of ancient ones. this will only help you while you are young, don't you wanna be able to continue when you are older?

My shins and forearm (bones) are too weak for that and I'm into martial arts. how can i strengthen them? I heard of the glass bottle and rolling pin, do they really work? It's not muscle because I could leg press 1000lbs last year when i was big into lifting. any tips I should follow?
@lokiklokik when you lift weights you are also damaging yourself. The muscle gets broken down, That's why you swell up. And when you rest and eat clean proteins your body will generate new muscle tissue. So when you kick tires, banana trees or just beat your shins, you may be sore but you end up building upon old tissue. Bones calcify tigher less porous, shins become stronger. this practice has been done for many many years. Not for the faint at heart. Perhaps table tennis is more safer?
If you impact with material equal or stronger density than the shin you run the risk of shin splints, or tiny fractures along the length of your bone. It may seem like a good idea, but over time your bones weaken, and then you see disastrous events like fighters breaking their legs during a fight, or serious issues arising as you age. This is bad training displayed here, and should not be taken seriously. One of the guys is even kicking with the top of his foot for half of the video.
if you want, was told to do by my mates uncle who is cambodian and trainined in the temples of thailand, so he knows what he is on about, he told me you can get like a marble stone rolling pin thing that you use to roll dough out and stuff get some one to push and roll it down your shins, you can also just shin kick like a tree or a boxin bag and gradually get harder and harder!
but that is what i was told to do just cause i personally couldnt get my hands on like propper equipment, my style and method seems to be workin fr me my shins are tuffer and can withstand hits now, what i also do when im in the skool grounds if i see a tree shin kick it and get harder and harder.
thats what i was told by what you could say a proffesional muay thai kickboxer, you may not agree with what i am sayin or taught but it works for me sofar, if u want try what i said!!lols>good luck
you will get brused shins and it will hurt like a bitch but the pain is worth it when you can get hit with pole or somthing like that and just be like wtf with out alot of pain in your shins and not being abl to walk propobly like what i have expirienced in the past.. lol
tell me when you kick a tire form a trailer, they are kicking a tire form a car or a small veicle, i kick a tire form a hevy weight veicle, and it hurst a lot, specially after the kick number 5, after that, feeling so much pain and you start kicking more slow, with that pain you even think in that details
haha man you gotta do this every day or at least a different style of shin conditioning everyday before you get into anything like this or even kick a bag if you want maximum results
oh yea, not to mention the fact that it's dangerous for the person kicking. there are hundreds of bones in ur foot and most r very small and break very easy
the guy n the blue kick better than the other two seem like the other two r scare or hurting the used tire hahaha i got some advice for u guy to hurt urself is to better ur self
the guy on the left in the start has got a good right kick! way much better than the one in the blue..if you know a bit about kick u can see the guy in the blue controls in before hitting the tire..
I like this way of conditioning. i think its a good way of training and conditioning shins. however they are wearing Thai shorts but kicking like a kick boxers. The guy on the left is kicking more with his dorsalis pedis and I am telling you now there is a lot of bones to be fracturered there. KICK WITH THE SHIN. baseball bat not karate kick.
Guy on left at beginning (the guy in trad shorts) he seems to be flicking with his toes a great exercise for hitting low kicks to quads or inner thigh. He does some good kicks when he swop sides though.
@Jesterartaud: The middle and top parts of the shin are used for guarding against/blocking/checking kicks. The lower shin (above the ankle) is what's used for kicking.
@aa3gunner Yes certain camps do use lower shin. However must camps check with middle shin. using the top of the foot or lower shin is for attacking inside thigh or neck. And needs no conditioning. Some none Thai boxers check this way such as MMA and American styles of Martial arts. But in must(not all) Thai gyms they consider the small part of shin to fragile and as this is there job do not risk injury. (how wever some moves in Bokator use this part).
@aa3gunner I have beeen training in Thai boxing for 16 years and I have never come across a club that teachers kicking with the lower ankle except for inside out side leg kicks and neck attacks for round houses you should be kicking with middle shin and your knee just out side of target. Some kickboxers kick with lower shin but not thai.
The way they are practicing might be "okay" but wont help you much because you dont push that mass like if you kick a heavy bag! Also i dont see the point why i should might have the chance of some open wounds because of a car tire and its striation! The art of muay thai is NOT "take at least as much pain as you can and practise for more" ... it's most important thing is physics, body and mind combined control and effectivity! Taking the most pain ... is imho not the best way...
@zodiak86 I agree I shin condition by just hitting pads or heavy bag. occasionally we will do sparring with no pads(which I hate because shin against shin without adrenalin of fight hurts). However for people who want to condition this is better than kicking trees. I did give it ago it was okay and I will never do it again. But people seem to like to invent new ways of conditioning and this was not bad
How about one of those rubber hot water bottles filled with water, or sand, covered with a cloth so that it doesn't chafe for beginners? And you just hit your shins all day long?
I tried that shit yesterday and I gotta say it the more you kick the more it hurts but it is very affective, I am thinking of doing it more often.

tell me when you kick a tire form a trailer, they are kicking a tire form a car or a small veicle, i kick a tire form a hevy weight veicle, and it hurst a lot, specially after the kick number 5, after that, feeling so much pain and you start kicking more slow, with that pain you even think in that details
thaditinitini 2 years ago
@prasiet
Are you stupid? traditionally thai fighters in Thailand will kick a banana tree for condition there shins

DaGoldC 2 years ago
haha man you gotta do this every day or at least a different style of shin conditioning everyday before you get into anything like this or even kick a bag if you want maximum results
chikkmagneet 2 years ago
shin splints..........in Thai land they train on trees which I think is incredible. I'll just stick to the bags for now.
monkeyat12 2 years ago
they practice on trees! HOW?
SuperBakeDizzle 2 years ago
they use banana tree's and they kick it like they kick normal bags
AlphaWulfX 2 years ago
@monkeyat12 hahaha yeah maybe in a couple years right? seriously people who train on those banana trees are nuts! :D
chikkmagneet 2 years ago
good vid. looked like too much foot hitting the tire tho
lucky5th2 2 years ago
and that will sting like a motherfucker
varmint527 2 years ago
not hitting with the foot?
lucky5th2 2 years ago
like you said too much foot hitting the tyre. That stings after a few kicks. You can see one of then cringing from the pain.
varmint527 2 years ago
oh yea, not to mention the fact that it's dangerous for the person kicking. there are hundreds of bones in ur foot and most r very small and break very easy
lucky5th2 2 years ago
yeah, its like a quater of all the bones in your body are in the ankle/foot.
varmint527 2 years ago
with the foot lol? are u crazy? if you kick some one with your foot you will be hurt or unjured.
MRjesseNL 2 years ago

Confuse209 2 years ago
the guy on the left in the start has got a good right kick! way much better than the one in the blue..if you know a bit about kick u can see the guy in the blue controls in before hitting the tire..
RoDosReDHool 2 years ago
just keep it up guys...
snipertenten 2 years ago
I like this way of conditioning. i think its a good way of training and conditioning shins. however they are wearing Thai shorts but kicking like a kick boxers. The guy on the left is kicking more with his dorsalis pedis and I am telling you now there is a lot of bones to be fracturered there. KICK WITH THE SHIN. baseball bat not karate kick.
Jesterartaud 2 years ago 4
wich guy r u talking about?
zolimt 2 years ago
Guy on left at beginning (the guy in trad shorts) he seems to be flicking with his toes a great exercise for hitting low kicks to quads or inner thigh. He does some good kicks when he swop sides though.
Jesterartaud 2 years ago
But not for proper round houses needs to be middle of shin.
Jesterartaud 2 years ago
@Jesterartaud: The middle and top parts of the shin are used for guarding against/blocking/checking kicks. The lower shin (above the ankle) is what's used for kicking.
aa3gunner 2 years ago
@aa3gunner Yes certain camps do use lower shin. However must camps check with middle shin. using the top of the foot or lower shin is for attacking inside thigh or neck. And needs no conditioning. Some none Thai boxers check this way such as MMA and American styles of Martial arts. But in must(not all) Thai gyms they consider the small part of shin to fragile and as this is there job do not risk injury. (how wever some moves in Bokator use this part).
Jesterartaud 2 years ago
@aa3gunner I have beeen training in Thai boxing for 16 years and I have never come across a club that teachers kicking with the lower ankle except for inside out side leg kicks and neck attacks for round houses you should be kicking with middle shin and your knee just out side of target. Some kickboxers kick with lower shin but not thai.

@zolimt
The guy on the left shown the first round!
zodiak86 1 year ago
@Jesterartaud
Taking the most pain ... is imho not the best way...
zodiak86 1 year ago
@zodiak86 I agree I shin condition by just hitting pads or heavy bag. occasionally we will do sparring with no pads(which I hate because shin against shin without adrenalin of fight hurts). However for people who want to condition this is better than kicking trees. I did give it ago it was okay and I will never do it again. But people seem to like to invent new ways of conditioning and this was not bad
Jesterartaud 1 year ago
How about one of those rubber hot water bottles filled with water, or sand, covered with a cloth so that it doesn't chafe for beginners? And you just hit your shins all day long?
faro0485 2 years ago
no offense but looks like the guy in the jacket is kicking more of the tire in lol..at the beginning...of course it could be the camera angel
